Adopted at a young age, Leo is part of the sprawling Byrnes family. With his dog Cap, three siblings and a whole mess of nieces and nephews, he is never lonely, and his life is full. Love is the last item on his to-do list, but seeing his best friends Sean and Eric happy and making new families makes him want things he doesn’t think is possible. Kissing Jason at an event to honor his bravery was one thing, but anything other than that is off limits. Until Jason has no one left to turn to, and it’s Leo who helps him at his lowest. Taking Jason and his daughter into his home is one thing, but falling for the ex-con is something else altogether.
Jason made a deal to keep his daughter safe and spent years behind bars as a result. Volunteering as a convict firefighter was as much about helping the community as saving his sanity, but now that he’s out, he doesn’t even have that. He’s lost his future, his self-respect, and has no friends or a place to call home. Worst of all, even after rescuing his daughter he still can’t keep her safe from the man who wants to use her as a bargaining chip for money.

This is actually a bundle of three books, but I review them together because they're all connected and feature the same characters. The stories revolve around three best friends and roommates - Sean the doctor, Eric the firefighter, and Leo the cop - and their individual paths to find love. Each book focuses on one of them, but the others are an important part of it as well.
I'll begin by saying that I loved this best-friends bromance. It contains a whole lot of teasing and mutual pranks, but also shows a deep understanding of each other, both from the past - being friends since childhood - and from their jobs, in which they see many horrible things. Their ritual of just sitting in the garden together in silence after a hard day was very touching. I loved how they care about each other underneath all the teasing and friendly fun, and the vibe of a bachelors' house while they're actually handling serious and difficult careers. It was the best of all worlds. They stay best friends through the series, when each finds love and a home of his own, and it's lovely to watch.
The romances, each with another single dad, were also very cute and lovely. I liked the most the first one, with Ash who is a single dad to a newborn, I think the parenting challenges there were the most significant and took a big part of the book. But all three single dads were quite realistic and interesting to read.
My main problem with the romances was that they were very rushed - within a few weeks at most, every couple shifted from total strangers to "love you forever", plus a kid involved. There are many challenges I can think about in this situation, whether the dad is raising a baby or a couple of teenagers, and they were mostly ignored - so that the man joining the family immediately falls in love with the kids as well, they all get along easily, and everything clicks without a shadow of a doubt. It was a little too fast and too easy in my opinion. But in the romance genre, I've read a whole lot of unrealistic fantasies, so this is fine I guess. Could have been better if every book was a little longer and had a bit more conflicts, but it was still very cute and lovely.
All in all, I loved this series, and would love to read more about those three connected families.
This collection includes the first three instalments of the series plus a bonus Christmas short. The first three revolve around a group of three friends sharing a house in suburban San Diego California as each of them find their HEA. The series needs to be read in order as the main characters feature in all of them and you need the background context to really appreciate the stories, which are heartwarming. The Christmas short is more of a stand alone as it doesn't mingle the main characters from the series in any way.
