I am at a loss for words; and oddly I have so much I could say. Wow!
I’m not going to give you a synopsis of the story, this is a book you should read with no spoilers.
With that being said, I HEAVILY RECOMMEND checking the trigger warnings and take them seriously…
The intensity in which this story was written. The details, the characters feelings, down to the thoughts they were having are all too true and captured beautifully. I went on their journey with them, experiencing it all.
Yes. Hell yes I cried, I sobbed, I balled into the fetal position and may have rocked back and forth, honestly, this book gave me so many feels, I have an instant hangover. This book will be living rent free in my head.
Oh and spice…. Holy Filthy Mouth!!

i’m sorry. i already feel bad since this was supposed to be an emotional romance about two people connected by someone they lost. i wanted to like it.
but i just couldn’t. the writing is so difficult to get through. it’s so wooden, all the dialogue is written like “i am worried because she is not being aware of what is worrying and that is difficult.” everything is very stilted, their interactions feel incredibly overblown, and it’s just…not a romance.
everyone in this book is so over dramatic. marcy is always screaming or crying or throwing herself down on the ground. sam is always “i’m daddy domming you into better decisions, i know better than you.” neither of these people have seen each other in any sort of meaningful way in years, but they behave in such alarming ways.
and the grammar/spelling needs some editing. multiple instances of “peak” instead of “peek”, general syntax and grammar problems, bizarre comma placement that results in a sentence that reads “get away you, perv!” instead of “get away, you perv!” like…i am sorry but i am BEGGING for an editor, or at the very least for the author to go back and reread her work to catch things like this. typos happen, mistakes happen, but bad grammar/spelling/word choice mixed with the most unrealistic dialogue and not enough detail in the setting leads to a difficult reading experience.
towards the end, there’s a character that’s involved in a car accident, but it’s not really described?? one minute, they’re slamming the building door, the next minute they are gripping the steering wheel, and then they’re passing out??
no description of them getting into the car, beginning to drive, or what they hit??? did they get hit by another vehicle?? did they hit another vehicle?? a curb? a building? a guard rail? a telephone pole? absolutely no idea, because it’s not described at all. but the person does get a brain injury from it, so i guess it was a bad accident despite being told nothing about it?
if i’m gonna read a book, i need something to visualize, and that’s incredibly difficult to do if the author doesn’t set the scene.

L.B Martin is a GODSENT for writing this book. Easily was a 5 star read for me not even halfway through.
First off, check the trigger warnings. There are some dark topics talked out in this book that can be triggering.
I want to first say thank you for writing a book that really shows a POV of what our soldiers go through when dealing with PTSD. It’s not a topic that most authors will touch on, but you wrote Samuel’s PTSD and trauma in the most realistic, organic and raw way which was the main reason for the 5 star read.
The brother’s best friend troupe can be played out, but not in “The Last Knight”. You have beautiful representation with a sassy plus size FMC Marcy, Militarry romance, best friend’s sister, age gap (12 years to be exact), trauma and SPICE.
I loved the emotions in this story. They’re all dealing with trauma and grief in their own ways and that’s one reason why they come back to each other. Samuel has always had feelings for Marcy, as did Marcy, but he didn’t want to cross those lines with his best friend Matthew’s little sister. Their chemistry was SMOKING. Samuel did such an incredible job taking care of her when she needed him, being protective of her and really blossomed in their connection. The spice in this WAS 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️. The things I wanted Samuel to do to me, the dirty things he whispered into her ear, the way he took control and did it well. Marcy is a lucky damn duck. That’s all I can say.
“You woke up the beast, sunshine. Now take my damn fingers like the dirty s**t you are”. UMMM YESSS.
OVERALL, amazing read, great storyline, lots of spice and an author I will read again EVERY SINGLE TIME.

The brother’s best friend trope is a favorite of mine. Marcy, who is described as a plus-sized FMC, has been in love with Sam, her brother’s best friend, since childhood. All the while not realizing that all those subtle glances and extra help were Sam’s way of reciprocating those feelings. However, so much pain and loss happens to Marcy and Sam. Sam struggles with his mental health and decides to keep his distance from Marcy but still keeps a watchful eye on her without her knowing. When they reconnect several years later, though, they no longer keep their feelings hidden, but Sam’s mental health is still a significant component of their relationship.
I enjoyed “The Last Knight” so much. It’s my first L.B. Martin book. Her ability to write Sam’s scenes during his panic attack was genuine. I was right there with him, with my heart racing too. And it wasn’t just that; it was the sweetness of Marcy when she was reminiscing about Sam when they were young. L.B. Martin was able to provide that imagery so well.
I will be backtracking and reading the books before this in the series, though “The Last Knight” is a standalone.

When Matthew passed away in action his last ask is for Samuel to always take care of his litter sister Marcy. Marcy has had a crush on Samuel since she was in grade school always playing with her older brother and his best friend. Marcy is devastated when Matthew passes away and she also looses contact with Samuel. However…Samuel watches Marcy from a distance for 15 years until they are reunited again.
This was the fourth book in an interconnected series. It was fast paced - not rushed but not drawn out with lots of build up. I felt like we got a good idea of the characters history with each other but also stayed primarily in the present. Both characters delt with some heavy mental health stuff surrounding their best friend and brother’s passing that led to tension in their relationship but the author did a great job with how it unfolded. The spice was great, and their chemistry was perfect (and a long time coming)! Loved it. As always, check for TWs and happy reading!

I am lost for words LB Martin you have written a truly amazing book that covers such a huge topic that people don’t see the devastation that people go through day in day out.
Matt, Sam and Marcy characters were a delight to read the chemistry the best friends had you just knew Matt knew before Sam and Marcy did.
How you wrote the tough scenes you had me in tears my heart broke for them all.
You are one talented author how you have been able to write book that covers a huge topic but also has a romance and steamy scenes but doesn’t take away from the story.

This book had me at the start!!!!! A tear jerker, spicy in the best way, great relationship building and just gave me all the feels!!!! I LOVE how L.B. Martin writes. Def a great last book of the series!!!!!

This book was so hard to get through in the best way. It was so very emotional, the characters are so relatable that it hurts. This book will rip your heart out but it will love you afterwards don’t worry.
The character development with this one was so incredibly in depth that the characters feel so real. Their pain is your pain, their struggles are your struggles. It’s done so very well.
The plot is focused on them coming together and working through what that means for them. It focuses a lot on their joint grief and guilt and them supporting each other through that. It a very emotional book and certain areas of it are written almost poetically. Beautifully poetic. Which of course only adds to the emotional impact the book has. It’s a very impactful read.
The chemistry between the characters is definitely there but it’s also a deep emotional connection between them that amplifies their chemistry to the next level. I really enjoyed the spice in it, it wasn’t overwhelming and taking away from their story. Spice wasn’t used in a way for their problems to be forgotten at all which I think was a really smart choice cause I don’t think it would have fit. It was more a secondary thing in their relationship, more a perk than a necessity. So I’m saying it’s a 3/5 in terms of spice, not super frequent but definitely present throughout and very well written.
Overall, I struggled in the best way to get through this book. It was so impactful and emotional to read, I still thoroughly enjoyed it though. It’s a beautifully poetic read for when you just need to cry. I’m saying it’s a 4/5 for me, only because I did have to take a break from it and revisit it because of how emotional it was but I’m so glad I did.

So this book is about Samuel and Marcy. Samuel is Marcy’s older brother and Matthew's best friend. They’ve known each other since they were kids and even serve together in the military. Marcy has had a crush on Sam ever since she can remember. Marcy’s brother ends up passing away while serving his country and his last words to Sam were, “Take care of Marcy.” I think Matthew knew the whole time that those two had a special bond but Sam can’t live with the guilt of being the one that survived so he’s watched Marcy from afar after returning from the army. So what happens when they finally reunite when Sam gets invited to her birthday dinner through one of Marcy’s clients? Read The Last Knight to find out more.
I have never read a military book before but this one was perfect for me to start with. I loved Marcy and Sam’s journey and truly felt Sam’s emotions myself as I was reading this book. I will definitely recommend this book to anyone who asks about it.

This book caught me totally off guard. Let me start by saying please check trigger warnings. No this is not a dark romance but it does contain some dark decisions. There is age gap, brothers best friend, childhood crush, and friends to lovers found in this great book. This book did break my heart, but it wasn’t the MMC or FMC that did. I know shocker isn’t it. My heart broke for what happened and what they both went through. The FMC is a strong woman that is running her own business and thinks that she has her life all figured out. She even believes that she is living, even if she doesn’t have a boyfriend or that many real close friends. The MMC try’s to avoid all people in person. He wants to stay in his penthouse and only deal with people in person when there is no other choice. The MMC also is running his own business. Unknown to the FMC the MMC has been in her life always, even if he wasn’t there physically. The MMC does not believe he would be right for the FMC. What happens when they finally face to face? The spice in the book is chefs kiss to me. The MMC is a dirty talking Dom who will get what he wants. The FMC is a bratty sub that is having all her fantasies come true. It is hot and it is through the whole book, once the FMC and MMC come face to face again as adults.

The Last Knight is part of the Knight Publishing Series. It’s a brothers best friend to lovers romance it does contain sensitive themes and topics that may be upsetting for some so be sure to read the C/W.
I honestly don’t want to give too much away, I just feel this book needs to be read and experienced.
I adored this book! It took me on a roller coaster of emotions, it pulled at heart strings one moment, then had me laughing, then needing a cold shower at the next.
Martin did fantastic with this book, I think it’s my favourite of the series, love the storyline/plot and characters I loved the chemistry and emotions between Marcy and Sam, and the way that L B Martin wrote the hard hitting/tough subjects had me borderline tears. Fantastic work and definitely recommend to all the romance readers out there

I really enjoyed this book. It is a classic older brother’s best friend romance. With a little harsh truth attached. I love when romance books talk about deep subjects, like PTSD on surviving soldiers once they are out of duty and the level of help they get once they're back. There is a certain level of sadness in the book, but it is what makes it so good.
The spice was there and was expectacular. I guess I just wish Marcy was a little more confident in herself and a strong female character. Even though it is kind of understandable where she is coming from and why she is that way, I always love a character growth.

I definitely have a new found love for this author!
This book was everything I hoped for and so much more!!!! This author writes beautifully and I honestly got drawn in from the very first page! Its not very often I finish a 254 page book in one sitting but this book was perfection!!!
The spice in this book was yummy, the connection between the Main Characters was AMAZING and a the MMC Sam was perfection!!!
The author is a huge rep for mental health also which is a HUGE bonus for me!!!!

This book takes you through ALLL the emotional. It’s such a beautiful, sad, happy, heartfelt and heartbreaking story all rolled into one. I have love every book in this series and this one did not disappoint. L.B. Martin knows how to get you hooked with her writing! Words can’t explain how good this book was💕, This was an AMAZING read! I loved the characters and the story line so much I finished in only a few hours!
This book was just all around one of my favorite 5 star reads this year. I would definitely recommend starting this series and reading her books if you haven’t already!

Marcy and Samuel have an emotional story. It is fast paced with trauma, grief and chemistry. This is a best friend's sister and age gap romance that had me hooked. It is wonderfully written that makes you feel right along with the characters. Along with the potent emotions, the heat was spicy! This was an amazing read!

Wow..... I absolutely loved Sam and Marcy's story.
I'm so pleased they both got their own HEA.
They've both had a lot to deal with since Matthew's death 18 years ago.
Sam has watched over Marcy from afar until he eventually can wait no longer after seeing her up close at her birthday celebrations!
Brilliant storyline with wonderful characters and absolutely loved the HEA.

This was my first ever military/ex military romance and I enjoyed it.

Fabulous read! Well so being a cancer survivor brings my survivor guilt to light. Something that I will have to look into!

Amazing story development. I cried, laughed and cried again. I love that Martin shows how PTSD is a true problem with our soldiers! All her books deal with an aspect of mental illness and I’m here for it!

This was my first military man and he did not disappoint!!!
He is dominant without the FMC being whiny… she is fierce yet broken in ways and he is strong yet also has a softer side. This book gives all the feels, perfectly spicy with great plot.
Somewhat second chance romance, age gap, plus size FMC, brother best friend…. So good!

This book was an emotional roller coaster. Very few books especially spicy books have made me feel all the things. I could feel the connection between Sam and Marcy. This book broke my heart and then put it back together with gold glue. The spicy scenes weren’t just spicy to see how hot they could be. There was a connection between the characters that you can feel. It’s my favorite book of 2024.

This book was the first from L.B. Martin for me, but I truly did enjoy it a lot. The characters in this book have experienced lost, grief, and so much more. The topics can be hard for some to read, but the character development and how each character grows in this book was so great to read. I really loved reading Samuel and Marcy’s story. I personally loved each and every character so much on their own, but when they were together, I just fell in love with them more!

Overall this was a good read. I like that the female is a curvy girl. Good sections of spice and overall nice storyline. I wish there was just a little bit more but this is part of a series so here's hoping there's another book behind it.

The author did such an amazing job showing grief and survivors guilt (as well as panic attack and depression) in a realistic and visceral way. I felt so connected to the characters and their stories. The spice was good, tho I often found myself frustrated with him for allowing himself to be so distracted during a scene.

I have enjoyed every book in this series and was super exited for this one. I will say they were definitely parts that I really enjoyed but over all I just couldn't really get into it. I wish it had more details and more of the MCs getting to know each other again instead of the insta lust.

September 5, 2024i just love reading a book where the mmc doesn’t back down from wanting a relationship w the fmc. like samuel knew since marcy was 18 that she was it for him but before that they had a very sweet connection and it was perfect. they both struggled with the death of matt and seeing them both heal each other and themselves felt so good to read about. even though marcy fought him for a bit, sam knew that he would do anything in his power to show her that they were endgame. GOD HE WAS OBSESSED and i live for that
