Having a baby with my new personal assistant? That wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I promoted her to be my fake girlfriend.

As the owner of a ski resort, I've got ski bunnies lined up 'til next Christmas.
But I need a different type of woman to help clean up my reputation for the investors.

Enter Raylene Harleson. The same stunning, infuriatingly stubborn woman who crashed into me on the slopes is now crashing into my office for an interview.

She's as fiery as she is ice-cold.
All precision and rules and thinks I'm a brute.
I'm going to enjoy bringing her out of her shell and out of her clothes.

In public, we're convincing everyone we're madly in love.
In private, I'm melting away her ice princess facade with every touch.
And with each hot night together, she's chipping away at my damaged, frozen heart.

What do I do when everything starts to fall apart, and the one thing we promised to keep out of our arrangement becomes the only thing I can't live without?

We're playing pretend, but the baby growing inside her isn’t.

OTT characters with juvenile characters and writing!

MMC:

Manwhore galore who has women on retainer and a listing of what they like, what profession there are into, etc so that he can tell them apart.

“Once a woman entered my thoughts, it was difficult to get her out, but with Ray, it was different”.

I thing author meant to say that once a woman entered his life, it wasn’t difficult to get her out of his thoughts or something and that with Ray, the heroine, it was difficult to forget her. At least that’s what I first thought it meant but then we learn that he is very into all the bunnies he f**ks making sure he pleasures them and they leave happy.

“You know why they’re so obsessed with me Ray? It’s not because of my money. It’s not because of my gold medals. It’s because I give a shit about their pleasure and make them feel things they didn’t know men were capable of”.

“I didn’t want a bunny. They seemed too immature, too boring. With Ray, it was more of a chase, as if I was a lion hunting down a gazelle. There was something exciting about that even if we didn’t end upsetting it perfectly. The bunnies offered themselves to me on a silver platter, no chase there. It was boring”.

MMC was a professional skier and had a childhood sweetheart who was his first love and his first & only relationship. When he was 19, he was in an accident that ended his career and his GF ditched him and married someone else. Devastated, he became a manwhore because you know, that what MMCs do when they are butt hurt…Lol.

FMC:

She had an affair with her former boss and because she came to work a few days late, he fired her and she was angry. Apparently when you sleep with the Boss, that gives you the right to slack off and get butt hurt when he fires you. Lol

Her Mother has dementia and we have chapter after chapter how she hates taking care of her, how she has no life because of that, how she is broke, etc.
From someone who had a family member with Dementia, I know how hard & exhausting it can be and how it takes a village to care for someone with this disease. So while I wasn’t totally bothered with her attitude at first, it became tiresome and frustrating to constantly hear her whinnying about it and then author had to go and insert some crap about a miracle drug that cured her mother’s dementia. Lol.

Outside of all this, what reviewers don’t mention is how awful the writing and characters are. This is no romance at all! They are both unlikable but especially FMC. Hero with his constant bunny reminders of his former hookups like he’s proud to be a walking STD asshole and constantly calling FMC “Blunder Bunny” for 90% of the story. Heroine with her hot/cold bitchy & ice queen attitude for 99.9% of the story!

Safety:

No cheating
No intimate scenes with OP though we do have mentions of how good in the sack MMC was with his interchangeable "bunnies".
Not clear if he was with any of his bunnies after FMC comes in the picture and before they hooked up.

Overall this was an okay story. MF billionaire fake relationship story turned happily ever after. I didn’t feel a deep connection with the characters. Spice was 🌶️🌶️ plot was ⭐️⭐️.5.

Trope:

Fake dating
Boss
Billionaire
Pregnancy

MMC, Wade was a man whore with a schedule of rotational women. Seemed a bit extreme and for the FMC to not ask if he was clean before they had unprotected sex was unbelievable for how uptight she had been painted just didn’t fit her character traits. FMC Ray took care of her mother who had dementia and was having trouble keeping up with the bills.

Their meet cute was when Ray was prepping for an interview at a ski resort and she wanted to learn to ski to get the lay of the land (didn’t make sense but okay). She collides into Wade who is to be the boss she’s supposed to do an interview with but she doesn’t know that it’s him until the interview the following day. She is totally unprofessional at the interview despite her desperation for a job due to all the medical bills to care for her mom. Despite that Wade hires her.

He asks her to be in a fake relationship with him and he’ll pay her medical billls and for a caregiver so that he can impress an old fashioned investor that didn’t like his playboy ways.

I get that Ray had to be mature in a way that I can only imagine someone isolated on her own as a sole caregiver for someone with dementia and that’s why she’s so cold and fridet but sometimes it was too much.

The whole thing with the stepbrother of Wade… Zane was weird. Clearly there’s a history there but it’s not explained. Zane is cool with Claire the sister but somehow not with Wade and how he manipulates Wade without explaining to readers what that history is and then he just disappears offf page without a major confrontation. It just fell flat.

The whole back and forth between Wade and Ray about whether it was real or not was too much at the end. Then Hunter being and added character who used to be friends with Zane but isn’t anymore but isn’t explained… something felt missing. It just felt like and afterthought to make there be conflict between Ray and Wade.

Hey sometimes I can overlook plot holes if I get a warm and fuzzy for the romance and falling and love part but I just didn’t feel it. The pregnancy was barely a blip in the storyline so that’s not an overall theme as I had originally thought going into this book.

Even better than book 1!

This was a great book. I enjoyed it very much. I thought it was better than book 1, though it would have been a perfect ending had they let us know what Ray had! Boy or girl would have been the icing on the cake! Sadly, I won't read book 3 because I don't think i can handle a carbon copy of this book. From everything that was said, Jack and Mandy had the same experience from start to finish as Hunter and Ray. Same exact book, just different names.

This was cute but very predictable plot wise. I'm also not very happy with the ending as far as what happens with Zane, Ray's mom, the extension. The ending felt rushed and incomplete.

Where do I even freaking start?!
At first, the story was cute—I was loving the banter between the main characters. But then the female lead started getting on my nerves. I tried to push through it, but when the male lead makes one mistake—and not only does he take full accountability, but he also explains himself. She just couldn’t let it go. Even after he reassures her and is honest about his feelings, it still isn’t enough for her. She clings to her assumptions and refuses to see the truth, which was incredibly frustrating.

And it doesn’t stop there.

When she finds out she’s pregnant, instead of opening up or working things out, she fights him at every turn and doesn’t even mention the baby until the very end of the book. Like, seriously?!

So, I say all this to say: Honestly, the biggest issue with this story was her. She was the root of the conflict—annoying, stubborn, constantly contradicting herself, and full of complaints. Yes, I sympathize with what she’s been through, especially regarding her mother, but that doesn’t excuse how difficult she was throughout the story. Rather than trying to grow or fix things, She was her own worst enemy—constantly sabotaging herself, dragging herself deeper into unnecessary chaos, and never missing a chance to complain about it.

I also felt like the author forced unnecessary drama just to stretch out the plot. It would’ve been more impactful to focus on the secret pregnancy and let the emotional tension build naturally from there. And can I just say? I really didn’t like the constant use of the phrase “ski bunnies.” It was overdone and got super annoying by the third or fourth time.

This was my second read from this author, and unfortunately, it was a HUGE disappointment—especially since I really enjoyed a different series of theirs. This one just didn’t hit the mark.

Raylene and Wade

Raylene (she prefers Ray but I don’t like that name) is burdened with financial problems due to her mother’s Alzheimer’s. She really wants a job at Wade’s resort but she runs into him while skiing and it’s doesnt make a good impression. He hires her anyway, then asks her to be his fake girlfriend so he could close a real estate contract. Of course money is what makes her say yes.
Their entire relationship from start to finish is volatile, almost toxic. Raylene has serious trust issues and she never really gets over it. Wade calls her Ice Bunny and he’s right. There’s no chemistry. She’s rude, demanding and inconsiderate. They bicker a lot. The “banter” is tiresome.
They both are quick to come to the wrong conclusions which is what caused not one but TWO 3rd act breakups. First she breaks up with him due to part of a conversation she heard. THEN he withdraws from her because of something he assumed.
By this point I should’ve DNF the whole thing. These are supposedly two adults who had already told each other how they felt, yet they let a couple of assumptions that could’ve easily been resolved by just talking, break them up. It’s annoying and completely unnecessary. I abhor 3rd act breakups and with two of them in this book, I wish I couldve given this no stars.

Opposites Attract Romance

Wade & Raylene collide on the ski slopes. He’s the owner of Colchester Ski Resort & unbeknownst to her that day, she’s the best candidate for a job position he has been searching for as his assistant. Even though this boss/employee link is unorthodox, there’s an attraction towards each other. When he needs a convincing girlfriend to secure a deal, Ray comes to mind. She agrees as her expenses are rising & needs the money for her mom’s medical expenses. With the close proximity of being together, they are becoming more open & peel away their coldness towards each other. Misunderstandings & jealousy creep into their fake relationship which had been feeling very real & true feelings are crushed. Can these two overcome their fears & really make what started as a fake relationship, into something so deep & special? Can two opposites really be attracted to each other? The chemistry between Wade & Ray feels so real. The banter back & forth, the other emotions tossed into the ring, makes this a really good story to read. This is a new author for me & I had great pleasure in reading this novel. Hot & steamy says it all!

Part of the Boulder Billionaires series each can be read alone with a billionaire and the one who captures his undivided attention without trying 😊. Wade and Raylene meet in the most unusual way colliding on the ski slopes leads to him offering a job. Wade sexy as all get out owner of Colchester Ski Resort when he runs into her on the slopes, he offers her a job as his assistant yep, the instant attraction is there but something tells him she is the ideal candidate. Raylene is spicy from day one with a touch of sweetness working for the grump sexy as he may be, but she agrees to work with him for her mother and her mother’s mounting medical bills. The magnetic pull between them can’t be ignored and the more they try to remain professional the stronger the pull between them grows until misunderstandings, poor communication leads to the break down of something that felt so very real and the reality sets in this is an arrangement for a business deal but will they be able to walk away now that real emotions are involved, will they be able to clear up the misunderstanding, learn how to communicate with one another, and will they find the thing that brought them together?

Brute & Bossy is an amazing book for an opposites attract romance. I love how in the beginning Ray and Wade had an interesting first meeting which I found amusing. Ray is looking for a new job which help elevate some financial problems she is facing with not only for herself, but her mother's medical needs. Wade is the owner of the ski resort which Ray is hoping to land the assistant job. However, the interview doesn't end very well because of how Wade handled the "interview". Ray and her father soon find out that her mother has early onset dementia, and sadly Ray's father passed away two years after the diagnoses of her mother's condition. Wade contacts Ray to give her the news that he is offering her the assistant job. The chemistry between Ray and Wade is so hot and sexy at the same time. Before long Ray and Wade end up in a sort of relationship together. Ray soon finds out she is expecting Wade's child. I love that their relationship becomes a real one with love. I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. I'm gonna definitely check out more books by this author.

Raylene aka Ray has taken her first ski lesson while checking out the ski resort where she is interviewing Monday to be the personal assistant for the CEO. She isn't really good at skiing. A skier runs into her where she has stopped on the slope and he tells her that she shouldn't be on the slope if she doesn't what she is doing. What she doesn't know is that the bossy skier is the CEO who is interviewing her. Ray is hired and now part of her job is maintaining his work schedule and his personal schedule which includes adding ski bunnies from his approved list for one-hours slots when one calls in. Wade is trying to get an investor for a proposed land purchase and development, but he needs to clean up his reputation with being in a stable relationship. Stop the ski bunnies appointments? Find someone to be his 'fake' girlfriend? If he finds the right fake girlfriend, could did become more?.

So get this… there’s a 3rd act breakup due to eavesdropping and miscommunication blah blah blah. Whatever, that didn’t even bother me. No no that wasnt it. What absolutely killed this story for me is that weeks go by. MMC miss her, goes to her house to professes his love for her! Asked her what happened… one thing leads to another and they’re doing the spicy sleep. FMC leaves at 3am to get “space”. She GETS INTO AN ACCIDENT! The MMC gets a call from his evil step brother telling him FMC was near an acquaintance farm/property and convinces him the FMC and this acquaintance are actually sleeping together. MMC DOES NOT VIST HER IN THE HOSPITAL. Like…. WHAT?! Dude, you just told her you love her and trying to makeup with her and you’re going to trust your evil stepbrother over your girl?!?! NOOOOOO I CANT!!!!!!! Also she was pregnant, FMC didn’t tell him until later but like OMG I CANT!!!!!!

Get some tissues ready before you read this. Heck, just grab the entire roll of the good paper towels. You’re going to need them. Mia Mara has written a book that is more than a billionaire romance. It’s really about family and the lengths you’ll go to for them and them you. The main characters have a love/annoyance relationship from the beginning and it sizzles, pops, and blooms from there. They both have façades that take a bit to see through but when they do see each other for how they truly are, that’s when it becomes more than just sexual tension. They snipe at each other and tease but it helps the bond between them expand. I could empathize with both main characters. Even the suspense and mystery was something that gave it an extra edge. I am very happy to have read this book and recommend it 100%.

Brute & Bossy is the second book of the Boulder Billionaires series and a spicy Contemporary Romance that I enjoyed for its broody billionaire MMC Wade Colchester who meets his match in MFC Raylene Harleson when she becomes his new assistant.
Their road to love and happiness is paved with angsty banter, misunderstandings, and emotional issues from past relationships that need to be overcome if they are to move on.
When Wade convinces Ray to pose as his girlfriend to help clear up his image in order to snag a big investor, fake soon becomes a whole lotta real.
Good writing and heart tugging moments made the story an absorbing read.

Brute & Bossy: A Fake Relationship Opposites Attract Romance is book 2 in the Boulder Billionaires series, a very well written story by the talented author Mia Mara. Another outstanding read by this author! This is Wade & Raylene opposites attract romantic story taking place in Boulder, Colorado. Wade is the owner of Colchester Ski Resort and Ray is his new executive assistant. This book had no cliff-hanger, no cheating, lot of banter and teasing, lots of steam and emotion you'll love to spice up your kindle. I found myself unable to put the book down. Highly recommended.

Great story!

Wade owned a resort and was a billionaire. He did not fall in love since he got burned before. He had to hire someone to manage his affairs. The boy one that met his qualifications was Raylene. When she was called in for an interview he almost couldn’t believe it. It was the woman that ran into him going so fast. They had words and left. Now here she was in front of him. So he hired her on certain conditions. She as sassy. He kind of liked that. She was beautiful. He really liked that and she had a great body. She told him what was what. It was comical how they could get to each other. You need to read this great story.

I loved how Wade and Ray knew it was always real between them even if they didn't say it right away. This romance didn't feel forced. It was an enemies to lovers story that started with a Meet-Cute.

You will enjoy their banter. You will love the teasing between the two. And the nicknames Wade gives Ray are adorable.

I love the way the author told the side of Alzheimers and Dementia that is rarely talked about. Ray's mother will make you cry sometimes, and other times she will remember her daughter in the cutest way.

This is the second book in the Boulder Billionaires Series and a great addition to the series. Raylene and Wade will grab your heart in this emotional enemy to lovers romance. Their chemistry is explosive and their banter, hysterical. The author did a wonderful job with this story and made the main characters real. Their story begins when she crashes into him on the ski slope and continues with twists, steam and a surprise baby. Well written and a page-turner that's hard to put down. Definitely high in emotional upheavals on so many levels. Loved the characters of Wade and Ray, as he is arrogant, good looking and smug, while Ray is feisty, hardworking and a bit desperate. The animosity between them was rampant throughout this story. There was one point when it felt like the story jumped and skipped a bit. Overall a great read, that gets you emotionally invested, but I would like to understand the underlying motivations of Zane’s actions.

He informs her she has the job but he needs a fake girlfriend and shes it. She needs the job so she'll do it but then she ends up with a secret. Loved this story.

Brute & Bossy #2 08/13/2024

Ray needs a job so she has come to the resort to check it out before the interview. So she thought it would be a good idea to take a ski lesson but she no good at it soon she has run into someone. Wade is the someone she has ran into but she doesn’t know he’s the person she has her interview with. After butting heads the interview goes about the same way. Ray really need the job but wade a brute. But wade just can’t stop thinking she just might be what he needs. So enjoy another good read and see what these two get up to!!

This is a must-read for any romance lover. Ray has so much on her plate and a past that makes it hard to trust others. She is responsible for her sick mom and trying to cope with losing her father. Wade is a player who needs to convince his sister's new in-laws that he has changed to get their help. He tells her why he is a player and they have their ups and downs up until the end.

Ray and wade made this story hard to put down from their first encounter until the last page. He met his match in Ray and when he decided to hire her but to go on and ask her to be his fake fiancé was like watching their world fall into place. The twists and turns that kept coming made this story even more fascinating as I cheered this couple on to getting their chance for happiness.

I absolutely LOVED this book by Mia. This romance book will give you all sorts of warm and fuzzy feels that will make your body feel like it's on fire. The way Wade and Raylene (Ray) characters navigate their relationship has you not able to put the book down. Mia has written yet another really wonderful must-read book and even though this is book 2 in the Boulder Billionaires series it can be read as a standalone, but why miss out on such HOT reads start with book 1 and enjoy yourself.

Amazing story! Mia Mara's writing is absolutely phenomenal, and had me hooked and so engrossed the whole time! The sass, the quips had me laughing out loud, and I could feel the building tension and characters raw emotions as if it was my own.

What starts out as a fake relationship with her playboy brute of a boss to help better his chance at a business deal, soon becomes more as Raylene and Wade spend time together getting to know each other.

I absolutely loved Wade and Ray’s love story. They each have strong personalities, but their chemistry and banter is so fun to experience. They have hot, sexy chemistry together, too. They experience a bit of a rollercoaster to get to their HEA, but it is worth it! Look forward to reading more books from Mia Mara. Highly recommend!.

Not a likable heroine

Could’ve been a nice story however the main female character was difficult to like. Another character in the book called her “stoic”, but that would implicate a degree of courage. Being negative and down right obnoxious most of the time constituted quite an impediment in the way of being likable.
If she would’ve been written with more softness she would’ve been more real and in tune with with the intended plot.
