Do you like to have nightmares? If so, please look closely at this thing's cover art. Even by generative A.I. standards this one is aaaaallll kinds of fucked up.

Wow, another "Tales from" product from Samuel DenHartog, it must be literally any day of the week. Because these are churned out every 2-3 days, going on for months, with every word and image generated by A.I.

No matter what culture's myths are being raided from whatever internet mythology database is being fed into ChatGPT to produce these collections of crap, the result is always the same: dozens of two page "tales" stuffed with banality, overwrought self-importance, repetitive words and phrasing because that's "a testament to" what generative A.I. fiction is all about, and an utter lack of actual storytelling or honoring the presented culture or providing any useful information to the reader other than "this thing exists." I've read enough of them to make it clear that these stories offer nothing, literally NOTHING that any brief wikipedia entry on the subject doesn't already cover, and actively detract from the source material with the vapid text that forms the epitome of nothingburgers.

This book's stories, as far as I can stand to attempt to read them before my brain glazes over with the numbing saccharine airy language and the soulless "storytelling" that doesn't actually express any events happening in any measurable way, are indistinguishable from each other or from those in every book in the series. Only the specific names vary. They're also indistinguishable from the A.I-generated text used by every other "author" attempting to make a buck without expending any actual effort into learning to write or creating anything of value. Go ahead and read something like The Man That Follows God or Scary night stories from artificial intelligence then come look at this book's text and see if there's any significant difference.

I see nothing to suggest that the "author" has the slightest interest in any of these mythologies, merely churning them out to cover all possible bases so that someone searching for a niche topic will be directed to his book. I also see nothing to suggest the "author" bothers to read any of the generated text before wrapping it in pretty A.I.-generated cover art (I'll give him this: the covers are much better designed than most such. Therein lies part of the trickery: making the "books" appear like a genuine effort.) Mostly, I see nothing to suggest that the "author" has ever read a decent book, at least not fiction, because the thought that someone who is aware that a book has the potential to genuinely inspire, to have an emotional impact, to drive imagination and wonder and a desire for more literary experiences, could then go and produce these milquetoast, intellect-devouring rancid butter churns makes me want to cry.

So anyway, that's what this AI-slinging "author" is foisting on people, for cash money, while pretending that it's not A.I. And it's selling; the Amazon sales ranks for his books are painfully depressing. Wake up and smell the A.I. garbage, people.

I am giving this book 2 🌟 even though I DNFd. I think this book was not for me. I believe if I knew more about the history behind the stories being told I would have found this more enjoyable and would have finished.
