When witches kidnapped him to serve them as their Greater Familiar, he negotiated a much more interesting deal...
Logan Morrison always fought for everything he had, but it never was much. Growing up truly alone did that to you. One day, when taking on an extra tutoring gig to help out a cute chick with a quirky name, she ends up bringing him back to her place. Cool, right?
Well, the next morning, Logan wakes up in chains and comes to learn that Cherry Cola is one beautiful and unhinged monster girl member out of three in a small Fresco City witch coven. Their plans for him? Servitude.
But Logan lands a much better deal for himself, and next thing he knows, these cuties are serving him as much as he helps them. Thanks to his deepening bond with the witchy beauties, he even begins to develop strange powers, including but not limited to the ability shapeshift into giant monsters matching their rare magical affinities.
With these new powers, it isn't long before the coven and Logan start making their own play for power—and it isn't long before the coven ladies start falling for him, either. How will Logan manage the demanding and persistent needs of his occult cuties? Will they be able to keep the larger covens out of their business? Will the danger they get themselves into be worth the rewards they reap together? And will Logan's harem—er—coven grow?
"Coven King 1," a 2024 release penned by Virgil Knightley and Edgar Riggs, brought to life by the dynamic narration duo of Jonathan Waters and Aurora Bliss is a hilarious harem-lit fantasy. This paranormal fantasy romp tosses listeners into a world brimming with magic, shapeshifting, and a coven of witches who are as alluring as they are unhinged. It’s a bold debut collaboration that blends harem-lit spice with a playful narrative, and it’s clear the authors — and narrators — had a blast crafting this tale.
The story centers on Logan Morrison, a scrappy loner who’s used to clawing his way through life. When a tutoring gig takes an unexpected turn, he finds himself waking up in chains, courtesy of a trio of witches from Fresco City’s quirkiest coven. Among them is Cherry Cola, a fiery, unpredictable monster girl whose name alone hints at the wild ride ahead. Initially slated for servitude as their Greater Familiar, Logan flips the script, negotiating a deal that sees him rising from captive to something far more pivotal. What unfolds is a blend of occult intrigue and steamy dynamics as Logan’s bond with these witches deepens, unlocking powers like shapeshifting into monstrous forms tied to their magical affinities.
One highlight is the world-building, which cleverly layers a witch-driven economy over our reality. The concept of spell tokens —magical currency fueling unique abilities — adds a fresh twist, grounding the fantastical in a tangible system. The witches themselves are a standout: each boasts a distinct personality, from Cherry’s chaotic energy to the more measured, cerebral Mara. These differences spark hilarious banter and tension, though at times the bickering drags before evolving into playful camaraderie. The authors excel at character quirks, making the coven feel alive, even if their relationships with Logan start surface-level and grow gradually.
The narration elevates the experience. Jonathan Waters infuses Logan with a relatable mix of grit and bewilderment, his voice evolving as Logan does: from a guy in over his head to a confident, if still conflicted, figure. Aurora Bliss shines as the witches, her vocal range distinguishing each character with precision. Her sultry Cherry contrasts beautifully with the poised Mara, adding emotional depth to their interactions. Together, Waters and Bliss create an intimate, almost cinematic feel, making the audiobook a richer experience than the text alone might offer.
The pacing is brisk, balancing action, humor, and spice. The spicy scenes — bluntly written and imaginative — cater to harem-lit fans without overshadowing the plot. Logan’s journey from outsider to power player is satisfying, though his initial submissiveness might irk some. Still, the payoff as he grows into his role is worth it.
It’s not flawless — minor inconsistencies and a crowded harem by book’s end hint at growing pains — but it’s a wickedly fun start to a series. Fans of magic, monster girls, and a touch of chaos will find plenty to love.
This book was interesting, but it had some classic pitfalls new authors fall into.
The MC is a guy working hard trying to make enough money to afford his night classes, when he stumbles upon a note asking for math help in the college library. Lo and behold, the math help request is from an extremely unsubtle witch looking to recruit him to be her coven's Greater Familiar by sexing him up and then handcuffing him to the bed while he sleeps. Waking up and catching wind of the plot and their desire to use him as a sex toy, he decides to not escape, but negotiate for more authority.
The MC is pretty good. He's an orphan, so has no idea of his background, but he's apparently catnip to witches wanting a familiar. And for reasons never explained, nobody knows why he wasn't detectable until 2 days prior to the start of the book.
The harem is very large for a book 1, even if it is 641 pages. By the end of the book, he's got 5 harem members. Also, the coven agreement means he knows that next morning that he's got the first 3 in the harem bag, as it were. He's already had sex with one of them in the first 25 pages, and he's slept with 3 of them before 50% of the book is done. The last 2 enter late, but that's still a lot of women in one book. and their relationships do feel surface level. They are all quirky, and their not-so-playful bickering in the early parts was a real drag on the book. Later it gets more playful, but it still gets old at times.
There weren't may typos/spelling/grammar issues in the book. I'll read the next one, but I'm hoping there is growth by the new author Edgar Riggs, since he wrote 80% of the book per the afterword.
This needs a Femdom and simp disclaimer. Alpha girl who acts like his mother, treats him like a pet, says 'good boy' and 'pet' etc. Lots of sissy fetishes in this book. Also, too much lewd, bickering, boring content.
The author wrote the MC as simp with dom fetish. How does he go from treat me like a human to literally being a damn pet. The whole thing was annoying at first then just awkward .
When I first picked up "Coven King 1" by Virgil Knightley, I was looking for an erotic story with characters who didn’t have sex hangups common in action books—and this book delivered beyond my expectations. As my first erotic book, it set a high bar. Since then, I’ve come to believe it’s not only the best erotic book for men but also Knightley’s finest work. It has none of the cliche tropes like a geek that gets lucky, a magic school, etc.
The narrators, Jonathan Waters and Aurora Bliss, are phenomenal. While I wasn’t a fan of Aurora at first, she quickly became my favorite. Her ability to vocalize the women during intimate scenes adds a level of immersion that’s rare in audiobooks. Instead of just hearing descriptions, you feel like you’re right there experiencing it.
The sexy scenes are incredibly detailed and inventive, avoiding the repetitive "vanilla" scenarios common in similar books. Each encounter feels unique and tailored to the characters involved, which keeps the story fresh and exciting. The climactic six-way scene is a standout, showcasing a collaborative dynamic where everyone participates equally—Logan doesn’t have to micromanage everything.
Criticism of Logan as a "wimp" is insane. These guys just hate women. He becomes the literal king of witches and is anything but weak. Unlike many protagonists in the genre, Logan isn’t a geek or socially awkward with women. He’s confident, mature, and genuinely loves his partners. He’s also the first man to stand up for witches’ equal rights—a true leader, not a sadistic caricature some detractors seem to prefer.
The women in Logan’s coven are brilliantly written. The first three represent classic ideals: a fun, quirky brunette with a model’s body; a curvy blonde who’s both nurturing and wild; and a redheaded athlete who’s smart and dominant. As the series evolves, additional women fill other archetypes, like the sexy librarian. Yet these characters aren’t one-dimensional—they’re complex individuals with rich backstories that unfold over time.
What sets this series apart is its balance between romance, humor, and action. Logan’s relationships feel genuine, offering more of a "girlfriend experience" compared to other harem-lit protagonists. Of all the heroes in similar series, Logan is the one I’d most want to be—confident yet grounded, with deep connections to his partners.
Overall, "Coven King 1" is an engaging blend of steamy romance and compelling storytelling. It’s perfect for readers looking for something both fun and meaningful in the erotic fantasy genre.
This is a fun and light-hearted beginning of a harem series. Do not take it too seriously. Everyone is more than a bit goofy.
The plot REALLY has an unconventional start -- the world structure is that only women can be witches and do magic (although there are hints in the book that that might be open to change). The MC is kidnapped by a vampire witch to become a bound familiar for the coven she is in, which will increase the coven's power and give them a sexual plaything. The MC figures that he can go with the "be the familiar for the coven" deal (especially the sex) as long as the deal is sweetened with more autonomy than was offered.
And, we are off!
The witches are all very distinct, with different affinities and desires and kinks and personalities and magical abilities. Logan learns quickly. The plot is often rather goofy. But that is OK.
Although there are battles through the book, nothing gets really violent until the last boss fight in the book.
It took me a bit to adjust to the casual amorality of the witches in general -- kidnapping, bank robbery, theft, whatever.
They try and act all tough, but the witches need Logan and he doesn't realize it at first, but he needs what they have to offer and they offer a lot for him to become their greater familiar. I'm enjoying all the different rewards that the girls are giving Logan to complete their missions. It's also funny to see how the leadership of the coven is going, shifting to where he is becoming a king as he gets more powerful. I'm really enjoying this story collaboration between Virgil and Edgar. Their writing and storytelling blends together perfectly and I honestly can't really tell the difference so far. The story itself is fun, the characters are hilarious and real. The harem dynamic between them all is fun to watch Logan deal with. The different powers and abilities Logan gets to shift into are a lot of fun as well. I can't put the book down and would have it read already if it weren't for work getting in the way. Definitely recommend picking this story up and giving it a read!
Audio book review: I enjoyed the book for the most part but the further into the story we get there is a glaring issue. This series/book is approximately 10-20% Story and 80-90% sex scenes. While the sex is fun even if fairly tame it gets old pretty fast when the "story" is basically just an intermission to introduce a new situation or characters. On top of that The voice actors did a great job but the producers though it would be great to have CONSTANT MOANING in the background during the sex scenes. It sounds like someone took a porn voice over track and put it on loop over a 10 second segment of the most "intense" moaning and then layered/duplicated it for the number of girls currently active and then just played it over and over and over and over. It's fucking awful. They could just be kissing but doesn't matter FULL ON LOOPED FAKE ORGASM SCREAMING GOOOOOOOOO. This isn't on the author or VA's it's purely a horrible post production choice and it was a bad one.
Sadly it doesn't get any better in the second book and I'm marking it as DNF
It should have been me! Very refreshing read that kept me on edge until I was able to finish it. Also, Logan is one of the luckiest SOB's out there. The girls are absolutely fabulous from the bundle of joy that is Halo, the tough acting Alpha, and the adorable Cherry, I don't know who to pick. Arachne is also fabulous, and hope to see more of her in the next book. I can't wait to see more of the workings of the inner circle and the development of their relationship. Logan is also a relatable MC who develops alongside the other characters as the story unfolds, and I'm sure most of us could not resist the allure of his entrapment. I for one can't wait until the next book wanting to see more of the story, the world that will unfold, and the development of their relationships. Also wish we will get more one on one moments, which were some of the most adorable parts of the novel.
Well, I do love myself some good ole fun with a side of plot.
Super short review as there’s not all that much to say. I really liked it, the story was a little less strong compared to the one I listened to last year around this time, I guess late December just requires a turn your brain off audiobook or two.
I will admit, there was a point in this book where the main character had a serious conversation at a buffet with the coven, and I thought the author was gonna brush past that, and for a solid hour or two it wasn’t mentioned and I had a super annoyed stance, fortunately, it was brought up again seriously and I really liked how it was tackled, so that bumped it to a 4.
Reading ‘The Shining’ right now, and we’ll start up something else on Christmas Day!
It's lighthearted, fun, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. The characters each have fun quirks and personalities, and there's a variety of spice that will probably satisfy most. I was pleasantly surprised by the kinks they explored. Edgar and Virgil are clearly an excellent duo that knows what they're doing. Looking forward to the next one (which apparently is already in the editing phase).
The writing was okay, but the MC is too much of a simp for me, and the plot was incoherent to try and rationalize the MC's behavior. The author really wanted the MC to act a certain way and the rest of the story kind of bends to that direction. I've tried to read this twice, I only manged to finish it this time by skip parts of chapters, mostly when things went to the bedroom I just skipped to the next chapter...
I am so glad I took a chance on this new author and can’t wait for his next solo project. it helps that Virgil Knightley was a co-author which gave me confidence at the style and quality of the book. I really like the pacing of this book and look eagerly forward to book 2. Can’t wait for the audiobook.
There was a generous amount of Spice in this book. At first it seemed too much and maybe it was compared to actual story plot, but I ain’t even mad. I instantly liked this story and genuinely liked how the relationships deepened and grew. Can’t wait for more!!! I need MOAR!
There are authors and then there is Knightley and Riggs. Sounds like a lethal combination to me! I literally laughed out loud for most of the novel. Some of the things the characters say are hilarious! A treat! All hail the Coven King! Read this book to find out more! It’s quite a romp!
A relationship-focused book by someone that may have never met another human being. Some hot non-human bank-robbing witches kidnap the MC to turn him into a pet, or just murder him. But they're hot so he's willing to... not act like a human, let alone a consistent one. What isn't filler is just dumb.
Coven King 1 was about what I expected of it. It's a fun read, with cute girls who are entertaining to read about. There were a couple of minor inconsistencies in the story, and I would have preferred if the MC wasn't so submissive, but I look forward to seeing where the story goes. Congratulations to Edgar Riggs on the release of his first book.
I was not a fan of this book. Other than the overt sexuality. I found the writing quality targeted more at YA audiences.
The cadence of the writing flows in a clunky way. There was a use of a double negative at one point. That negated the intended use of the intention of what was said. That may be construed as nit picky, but it I noted it as another distraction in the flow of reading.
I really loved it, it was so much fun, with cool magic, sexy witches and lots of silliness, it made me laugh out loud many times, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for book 2
Already a fan of Virgil’s so was an easy choice to check out this new series and am glad that I did. Great plot and pacing of the story and a well written MC with great strong female characters that aren’t card board cutouts. Can’t wait for book 2
A good beginning. Basic plot of a young loner who has some qualities that witches want. He becomes involved, finds romance and discovers love. There is conflict, and well done action scenes. Highly recommended.
The quirky characters really give a living experience feel to the story and add a wonderful depth to the personalities and plot. Spending time with them is light hearted and leaves the reader with a warm comfortable feeling. Very good humor!!!
This is a new author for me. It turns out it was a great book. I love the way this book was written. The story kept me interested throughout the whole book. I'm going out to get the second book in this series right now...
Felt enjoyed the story and look forward to the next book. The characters are so unexpected and interesting, with their own kinks. And learning to share is hilarious and sexy!
This is a great book. Since this is written mostly by a new author I find it to be amazing and am looking forward to the next installment. Which I plan to start right now. I hope It continues to entertain as much as this one has
I really enjoyed the actual plot of the story. I also enjoyed the raunchy stuff but tbh it did seem like a bit much at points. Overall Id recommend if fantasy raunchiness is your thing.
The banter was good, and at times the pacing was great. The characters were fun. But like others have pointed out the writing came across as a little juvenile a little too often. It's part of the genre, sure, but this was a little too much.
It starts out a little slow but as the story progresses and each character is built on the story starts to pick up and gets really interesting real quick and doesn't stop.you
