The sites of the government survey project of the late 19th century were rephotographed by Klett and others. The views from Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada, California, New Mexico and Arizona, originally photographed primarily by Timothy O'Sullivan and William Henry Jackson, but also by A. J. Russell, J. K. Hillers and Alexander Gardner, are presented along side the contemporary images. Photographs by Mark Klett, Gordon Bushaw and Rick Dingus; project director, Ellen Manchester; project coordinator, JoAnn Verburg; essay by Paul Berger. 221 pages; 262 b&w images plus 10 maps; 12.5 x 9 inches.
