Jessica Gadziala is a USA Today bestselling author who lives in rural New Jersey with her parrots, dogs, and an ever-growing collection of houseplants. A lifelong dreamer, she’s been writing stories since childhood and published her first book in 2015. When not at her desk, she’s usually feeding backyard birds, rewatching crime dramas, period pieces, and 90s supernatural TV shows, or adding to her towering stacks of unread books.
I could tell you that Grassi family’s on-going drama has drawn me into each and every story, But I would be flat out lying to you every single book pretty much that I have read from this author as drawn me in ……
Claire is trapped in a nightmare, held captive by a crime lord who is also the father of her child. When she finally sees a chance to break free, she turns to Aurelio, hoping he can provide the refuge she so desperately needs.
Aurelio, a key figure in the Grassi Mafia family, is one of those rare individuals who yearns for a deeper connection and dreams of starting a family. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when a woman intervenes just before a dangerous deal at the docks, ultimately saving his life. Later, she shows up at his doorstep, desperate for help for herself and her son.
As the story unfolds, the connection between the two characters deepens, and they make a genuine effort to protect one another. However, life's challenges inevitably complicate their journey, adding depth to their relationship.
This book was a delightful and engaging read. I enjoyed every aspect, from their initial meeting to the passionate moments and the heartwarming scenes with the kids. The epilogue, in particular, was absolutely flawless!
This is the 7th book in The Grassi Family series and once again one of my favorites in this series.
Aurelio's and Claire's story is a rollercoaster of brutal, raw and heartbreaking emotions.
This is a mafia romance, but it is completely different from all other books. Aurelio is not a grumpy alpha capo. He is a gentle and loving man who longs for a family and a real home.
Don't get me wrong, he is a mafia member and a real capo in the family, but he longs for normality and security, for working for the family and a quiet refuge at home and children who love him. He is, so to speak, a perfect future husband and father. The only thing he is missing is the right woman.
Ok, before you think that this is a sweet and swoony romance, I have to tell you that the book is a brutal, raw and damn dramatic story. It is a story with a lot of drama, heartbreak and dark feelings.
It's a perfect book for all fans of mafia romances.
This was recommended in a “MMC who wants to be a husband” post, and Aurelio did not let me down.
The story starts with Claire being held captive by her ex (also the father of her son, Judah). Aurelio is the mafia capo that the abusive ex is about to double cross, and Claire manages to warn him.
I’d describe this as mafia-lite, because although the mafia bits were very violent, the relationship between Aurelio and Claire was full of sweet, caregiver goodness. 🥹 The story itself was also great — simple but well-paced, and with the right amount of plot turns to make it very engaging.
Jessica Gadziala is an author that hasn’t worked for me in the past, but I get it now. Highly enjoyed this, will be going back to the beginning of the series.
Back with the Grassi Mafia family.. Aurelio, who is head of a branch, is one of those rare men. He is ready to find "the one" and start a family. What he didn't count on is a woman to warn him before a deal on the docks that ends up saving his life and then later knocking on his door begging for him to save her and her son.
Claire is being held prisoner by a crime lord who happens to be the father of her child. When she finally has a chance to escape, she makes her way to Aurelio seeking asylum.
Fast paced and at times edge of your seat. Can't wait to see whose story is going to be next.
I liked alot about this. The Hero is really wonderful, it's pretty much love at first sight for him. The heroine is imprisoned in the home of the father of her son and its only because the child is still small that she's being kept alive.
HEA. My only issue was its dual POV, changes with a chapter and I found recapping over events a bit repetitive.

Aurelio is a family Family man. He wants a family & doesn't hide that fact, which I love. Claire's in an awful situation, but still takes a risk to warn a stranger. And later, that stranger becomes her saving grace.
This is a quick, sweet read. Aurelio & Claire have an instant connection & he also has that with Judah. Judah is such a doll as he bonds with Aurelio, seeing the same thing his mother sees - this is a trustworthy man.
We get a bit of the scary stuff with Claire's ex & things there, but we also get the good stuff with Aurelio! 🔥🔥🔥
Enjoyed this lots!! Especially the updates at the end of how their family grows. 💚
A good read. Jessica Gadziala never steers me wrong with a release. The fact that Aurelio was so perfect made this read more enjoyable. Claire was a bad ass with a heart of gold. These two were perfect together. With there being so many family members I wonder who’s next… I’m hoping it’s Smush because she’s becoming a favorite!
I love Aurelio in the prior book and was waiting for his story. I was not disappointed. Just enough drama and romance to round out a great love story! Cute moments that make you smile and action that make you clutch your pearls!!! Can’t wait until the next book!
I love the Grassi series and I just adore Aurelio. Claire is one of those women that picks herself up and moves on but will defend her kid and those she loves without thought. The chemistry between Aurelio and Claire snapped into place quickly but the way it evolved was satisfying. This is one of my favorite series.
This was a quick and fun read. I love everything. The way they met, the steamy scenes, the kid scenes. But that epilogue, it was perfection!!! I want each kid to have a story. Lol.
I'll preface with saying I haven't read any of the other Grassi family books, so I went into this blind. This one was really cute and sweet, so it's a good option if you want more of a palette cleanser in mafia romance. It did feel like things came together a bit too easily for the characters, with essentially two scenes of dangerous outside conflict.
I appreciate having a mafia MMC who actually wants to find a good woman, marry, and have children. So often they either view that only as duty and expect someone else to arrange it, or they have sworn it's something they'll never want. So opening with Aurelio admitting it's something he's been trying to pursue, and that he wants to do it with the "right" woman was refreshing. If you're looking for an overly possessive alphahole MMC, Aurelio isn't it, but if you want a tender, caring man with a gun then he's got you covered.
I will say Aurelio was a little too perfect. It was really sweet when he was considerate of how Claire might be feeling when she first showed up, and his taking care of Judah made sense since he had nieces and nephews, but it was like he magically knew everything Claire needed or felt and responded to everything exactly how she would have wanted. It went past suspension of disbelief and took me out of the story a bit. I would have liked for Claire to maybe have to correct or suggest something, or for him to be awkward or unpracticed in some regard.
Claire was a pretty solid FMC. She wasn't a doormat or an idiot (sadly a high bar). She had the patience and intelligence to bide her time, waiting years for an opportunity to escape Warren, and was clever and brave enough to take the opportunity when it arose. She was a good mother to Judah, and was willing to put her life on the life and physically when when she knew she had no chance of winning to keep him safe. She didn't feel like she had much of a personality beyond being a mother in danger, but I suppose that makes sense given her circumstances.
The story did have some conflict driven purely by character fears and suppositions. At first I was a little annoyed at Claire's worries that Aurelio would suddenly lose interest and toss her on the streets, but before too long she demonstrated some self awareness and acknowledged that nothing in his behavior suggested he might do that, and her concerns were coming from her own insecurities. Hallelujah.
I enjoyed all of the Grassi family dynamics, so I'll probably check out some of the other books in the series.
There were some errors/typos - enough to be noticeable but not bad enough to detract from reading - and occasional awkward phrasing but the writing overall was pretty good.
✅MAFIA + FMC ON THE RUN + VIOLÊNCIA DOMÉSTICA + TODDLER + ELE NÃO É O PAI MAS CUIDA COMO SE FOSSE + THIRD ACT DANGER

As a young girl my dreams and aspirations for the future varied day to day. Like any born in the 80’s and grew up in the 90’s girl, Lisa Frank encouraged a love of dolphins that inspired wanting to be a marine biologist and my best friend’s older brother being hero-worshipped later changed that inspiration to an actual Marine….but in the back ground of any career choice I could think of remained one constant - I wanted to be married to the love of my life and with him have children.
Now I couldn’t math well enough to be any kind of biologist and while I’m sure my ASVAB score would have landed me at least higher than peeling potatoes for a military career - BUT I, like the hero of this story Aurelio, found my partner in crime -life, I mean life!
Aurelio has been a background Grassi for a while with this being the 7th installment in this Family chapter. We know he’s been longing for a family, and from what we could gather up until now has been one of the gentler family men because of it. That doesn’t mean though that this story is gentle. There is real heartbreak and overcoming abuse, which I don’t think any other kind of man would have handled as well as he did. Jessica has a knack for pairing these couples with exactly who they were meant for even when touching on some hard topics. Maybe like they were written for each other or something.
Claire is mother with not only the highest of selfless tendencies but a real heaping portion of fear for herself and her son. Taking a risk to warn Aurelio of coming danger she places herself between him and a situation that would have devastated the Grassi Family. When the chance to run presents itself, we as readers can welcome the wonderful trope that is forced proximity - but with a twist. Her son.
Anyone with kids in the house knows that romance looks different with them present.
This book had elements of mafia romance every mafia reader will enjoy, but also touches on the human element so deeply it makes it feel less like fiction and more like they are possibly out there living this in real life.
Loved Loved Aurelio & Claire (Woman with the Warning)
Trapped in an abusive relationship and held hostage with her son, Claire overhears Warren’s (abusive baby daddy) plan to double cross Aurelio. Claire saves him and his crew with a hushed warning and it is him that she escapes to, when she flees her abuser.
But Warren refuses to let go of his son and keeps coming at Claire who is under the protection of Aurelio and by extension the Grassi Family. Meanwhile romance is brewing between A & C, as A who desperately wants a family has found a ready-made one in Claire.
All’s well that ends well. I was happy to see them years in the future even though the timeline/ages were a bit off
Who doesn't love a hot strong mafia capo who wants to find love with the right woman and have a big family?!?! Aurelio is getting older and feeling the longing for a family. He's dreamed of the family life for so long but never found the right one. Little does he know he meets the woman of his dreams at a deal gone wrong. Claire is strong willed and fighting everyday to keep her son safe. She finds a time to get safe and takes it. She shows that moms will endure and do anything to keep her baby safe. Their story is exciting, full of love and spice and an amazing HEA.
Aurelio & Claire! He's Lucky, Milo, Elisa, & Smush's bro. Claire's the prisoner of her psychotic criminal baby daddy. The Grassi's are getting ready to do a deal at the docks when Aurelio comes across a woman handcuffed in a car. She warns him of an ambush but won't let him rescue her. Thus begins a tale of abuse, terror, redemption, romance, murder, & love. Gadziala'a characters are such a treat to read about and her epilogues that stretch from a couple of months to 17 years are fantastic. I love reading the books in this Navesink Bank Universe. I'm hooked in and this one is #25 & in the Grassi series order #7.
It has been awhile since I have written a review, but this author deserves a small note of appreciation. The characters come to life in this book, both the main and secondary characters brought me into their life like I was watching it happen. I started reading this book way to late and didn't put it down until I was finished. Coffee, lots of coffee today, but so worth it. I am still thinking about the story as I wake up and I found I was smiling. So thank you for taking me out of the reality for a tiny bit.
This is definitely my favorite of the series but it might also be a favorite book of Gadzialas. This was amazing. Exactly my kind of book and what I look forward to reading. There was so much action, emotional storyline, amazing characters including plenty from past books (loved me some Luca), and so many swoon worthy moments. I could not get enough. The best part? Nothing felt missed and there was never too much. With dual POVs you sometimes feel like you miss parts or it might feel repetitive but this was perfection in dual POVs. Just amazing.
This story followed Aurelio, Claire and her son Judah. As sweet and swoon as this story was it also had its own heartbreaking moments. I loved seeing how protective Aurelio was with Claire and Judah. He always knew he wanted a family so when he finally finds the right woman, her having a son was just a bonus to him.
This is the 7th book in the Grassi Family, saying that, you could definitely read it as a standalone.
Another great story about the Grassi family in the Navesink Bank world. This time it's about Aurelio and Claire. We find Claire married to a really unpleasant, controlling man, Warren, and one day she finds herself handcuffed in a car while Warren and his group of men go to ambush Aurelio at the docks. As he walks by, Claire warns him and the ambush fails. It's a brilliant start to a story full of romance, laughter with a bit of violence, terror and mafia business thrown in.
This story was very interesting and the characters captivating. This lady is married to a psycho. She is abused and held as a prisoner. Her husband is extremely controlling and a monster (professionally and personally). She warns his opponent that a set up is about to take place and to beware. Bad things happen and she runs with her baby to the guy she warned for protection. She is a fierce Mama and will do anything to protect those she loves. There is lots of action, fighting to survive and enjoying a beautiful HEA. Highly recommend this story.
Claire is trapped in an unhealthy/abusive relationship. And yet, she is strong enough to warn Aurelio of her husband's plans to double cross him. I absolutely loved this story and these characters... Claire, in particular, her strength, what she endured to protect her son, will have you rooting for her from page one. Throw in the Grassi family, all the mafia goodness, and once again, Jessica Gadziala has delivered an unputdownable read.
This was probably one of my first times reading a Mafia book where it wasn't labeled a dark romance or an arranged marriage trope. So considering it wasn't my typical read, I still enjoyed it a lot!!
Aurelio has me wishing that you could create a man like that in real life. And Claire has me hoping that I could even be half as strong as she is. Together they were amazing, and I honestly just wish we got to see more of them getting to know each other and being romantic.
Aurelio’s turn to meet Mrs Right. It’s a big start when she saves his life watching him he is about to walk in to an ambush, while she herself is handcuffed in the car by her mad ex who is holding her captive. Her life revolves around her son and spending as much time as possible with him She knows her days are numbered. A chance opportunity to flee is taken and she gets herself to the man she saved I love these books and each and every member of this family
