Carter Brown was the pseudonym of Alan Geoffrey Yates (1923-1985), who was born in London and educated in Essex.
He married Denise Mackellar and worked as a sound engineer for Gaumont-British films before moving to Australia and taking up work in public relations.
In 1953 he became a full-time writer and produced nearly 200 novels between then and his retirement in 1981.
He also wrote as Tex Conrad and Caroline Farr.
His series heroes were Larry Baker, Danny Boyd, Paul Donavan, Rick Holman, Andy Kane, Randy Roberts, Mavis Siedlitz and Al Wheeler.
Might be closer to a 3.5 but really enjoyed this entry in the Danny Boyd series. Boyd is a PI and is hired by a publisher to find a stage actress that has been missing for two years. He says it would make a great story for his new magazine. However Boyd finds out there isn't any new magazine and there is a much more personal reason for the magnate to find her. Boyd runs into all kinds of problems (and people wanting to kill him) while the case gets very complicated.
Recommended, it's a quick read and keeps your interest. Boyd is a fun character.
