I Was Captivated

Clint Baxter is a resident at Oschner Medical Center in Louisiana. He has developed feelings for his mentor, Dr. Lillian Charles. Clint has a troubled past and he thought that was all behind him. Then a patient arrives at the hospital with missing organs. Clint and Lillian assist the detective in charge of the investigation entangling them in an organ harvesting ring. Lillian halts any advances Clint makes and eventually he falls for a singer, Amahle. Clint risks his life to catch the killer.

I enjoyed this book immensely. It was filled with surprises and kept me turning the pages. There were a few unexpected twists that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I loved the characters, flaws and all. They had incredible depth and vivid personalities. I found myself relating to all of them in different ways.

I highly recommend this book especially if you like suspenseful mysteries.

I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.

Murder In Louisiana - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Dr Clint Baxter's conflicted in his personal and professional life about his hopes and fears for the future, that include Dr Lillian Charles, a surgeon he's started to have feelings for, some dying patients who've turned up in the ER, and fears about the family he once betrayed finding him again.
He meets Amahle, a dancer, who draws him into a twisted, murderous web of secrets and lies, which engages the reader very quickly, as the tension mounts exponentially.
Will he and Lillian get together?
Will his family exact a terrible vengeance on him...or will another try to?

Exciting Twisted Tale!
This story was busy from the start! Dr. Clint Baxter is in the witness protection program, and he has successfully become a doctor. Now he has his sights set on a wonderful doctor who is older than him, but nice! There is just a little problem, his brother comes to town after tracking him down. Then there is this little other problem, who is killing these people and harvesting their organs, with calling stitching them after taking their organs nothing but keeping them alive for a little while. Who is doing this?
Great style of writing, busy going in many directions, and the ending was befitting!
Thank you, Megan L. Bradford, for a great story!

I love the idea of voodoo and black magic that I think of when I think of Louisiana, so I was drawn to this book. Clint Baxter is a resident at Louisiana's Ochsner Medical Center. He is supervised by lead surgeon Dr. Lillian Charles. They receive a patient with missing organs. Lillian says this isn’t the first time she has seen this. They assist the detective to solve this. Clint sort of develops feelings for his mentor, and wants to prove himself, I guess. Unfortunately, she is not interested and he moves on to Amahle who draws him deeper into the mystery. It gets dangerous as he tries to catch a killer. And again, voodoo and black magic are involved. I really enjoyed the book. I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC. It was a good, quick read with just the right amount of creepy for me. The storyline was interesting and moved right along, making hard to put down at the end. I did find how much the police involved the main characters with the investigation at many points to be unbelievable which took away from the story for me. Maybe if they had been private investigators instead of doctors I would have found it more believable. I also wish the author had given us a bit more with Mama Juniper. I was looking forward to learning more about her character, but we just got the briefest glimpse.

Megan L. Bradford weaves a thrilling, scary tale!

With this story, we find ourselves in Louisiana with two doctors, a cop and his partner, all trying to solve murders of well-to-do men missing body organs. They realize they’re dealing with a form of voodoo. Megan L. Bradford truly has a gift for writing terrifying tales in such a manner as to keep me turning pages, even when I really don’t want to. The amount of research she must put into each and every story she writes is mind blowing. I cannot recommend her stories highly enough!

Talk about the wrong place at the wrong time. Clint is just a normal guy doing his job with maybe a bit of a crush one one of his co-workers when odd things start coming into his life. This is billed as a psychological thriller, but totally follows the arc of a get into your bones horror. Strangeness starts mounting, old connections start to be revealed. Psycopath or psycopomp?

This story takes some serious twists and turns keeping you guessing until the end. Part mystery, part paranormal thriller, all horror.

Quickly becoming one of my favorite "new" authors, Megan L. Bradford has written a sensational thriller full of haunting visuals. There is a tense love story here as well bordering on obsession. Certainly not conventional. It was a powerful read which I very much enjoyed, complete with a startling conclusion

This was a great read and kept me guessing for most of the journey.
The story revolves around Clint a doctor with a past who is drawn into investigating when someone starts to harvest organs from live doners.
The world building was great and I loved how quickly I could picture the characters.
Something a little different for me but I enjoyed the story.

Someone is stealing organs from people and leaving them badly injured around the city. Surgeon Clint gets pulled in to the investigation with the assistance of his mentor at the hospital.

Voodo, Muti and a psychotic villain threaten the safety of Louisiana residents in this excellent new thriller from Megan L Bradford.

Great characters plus an even better plot with some nice twists and turns that you'll be happy to stay up late to finish.

Well worth 5 stars.

Was it Voodoo or something else

It was a very thrilling mystery set in Louisiana that really had my heart going. I have lived in Louisiana for 30 years and been through Lafayette many times, and this storyline was very intriguing and suspenseful. I loved the main characters, and the pace was great. I also loved the way the author prolonged who was the murderer and it did have a surprising ending.
I recommend this book to all readers who love a good twist and turn mystery story.

This book is really good. I had a hard time putting it down. There was a surprise around every corner. You Think things are finishing up, then boom, another event. Wonderful complex characters. A voodoo New Orleans vibe. Murder. Mutilation. Gore.

Not my typical genre by any means. It was a refreshing short read. Lots of entanglement and connections between characters. Some were predictable, others were not. The height of the plot was predictable, but the ending left for little to be wanted. I would definitely pick up another book by this author.

While a big part of the plot was predictable, the story was still good enough to keep you wanting to know how it would play out!! A follow up for Clint would be fun! And it was cool to read it from a place that I live and some of the Cajun/French terms used.
