“A gentleman would never speak of last night.”
“Mayhap ye’ve already discerned that I lay nae claim to being a gentleman.”

Alana MacFarlane would go to any lengths for her sister. Even helping her escape from marrying the most feared brute in the Highlands, rumored to have taken his own wife’s and child's lives. However, once the deed is done, there's only one thing their father can do…

Spare his other daughter.

Niall MacGregor needs an alliance to resolve a feud he lacks the funds to settle. Thus, he cares little which MacFarlane daughter he must wed to obtain it, as long as it happens now. Yet, when the vixen attempts to drug him on their wedding night, Niall swears to make her regret it, despite Alana being the most captivating woman he's ever encountered.

Especially as he has vowed to keep his heart at bay for the rest of his days.
Being married to her sister’s fiancé turns out to be both a blessing and a curse for Alana.

A blessing, because she finally discovers the true meaning of love.
A curse, because with Niall's enemies closing in, time may be running out for both of them…

A cute Scottish novella I binge-read in just under six hours. 💕 📚
A solid 4 stars for me. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you're a fan of Outlander, you'll probably like this one. 😉

Lyla Rosewood certainly understands how to write in 3rd POV; it's a difficult skill set, especially when writing from both the MMC and FMC's viewpoints (Dual POV). Most spicy romance writers seem struggle doing this well, which I think is probably why 1st POV is so widespread and readily accessible. On this point, I congratulate the author. I also commend her on her use of traditional highland dialect- It would've been easy to use standard English instead of solely writing Scottish dialogue. (Think about how Jamie Fraiser speaks in the Outlander series vs. how Claire speaks, and you'll pick up on the stark distinction pretty quickly.) Lyla Rosewood does this beautifully. 10/10 difficulty level!

If you want a quick romance because you need that brutish Scotland fix, this novella will definitely scratch that itch. 😘

Not bad for a quick read. I’ll give it more like 3.5⭐️ A few typos, but overall not a bad story. Took a second to get the accent sorted out in my head but I got it. I enjoyed the misunderstood brutish scot (pretty sure they are Scottish, if not, they are in my head 😅) aspect and the slight sexual tension. Also would like to mention this is my first of this genre type I think & overall I enjoyed it and likely will read another of this type again. Sexual tension✔️, hot muscly Scottish guy✔️, battle scene✔️, fierce fmc ✔️

A wonderful novella of the old ways back when clans were still allowed and lairds were seeking alliances. This story was short and sweet with some tears of a sad history and some sweet love that flourished out of an arranged marriage that was meant for someone else, but was fated to be with her instead.
I definitely recommend this book. It was wonderful. It was a little hard to understand at first, it took me a bit, but as the story progressed, I started picking up the wording and I just went with it. I read the book in two hours. It was great. it took me this long because of kids, but I couldn’t put it down. I had to finish it. It was that good. I will say the author put a lot of thought into the story, I thought it was going to end with a cliffhanger, but to my surprise, it did not, she did not disappoint and I do mot want to give too much detail about this book, but it is a must read.

The story was short and relatively sweet. Thank goodness. I doubt I could have read much more had it been longer due to the many inconsistencies, typos, grammatical errors.

In the beginning of the book, Alana is described as having green eyes. Niall is described as having brown eyes as dark as soot. In subsequent chapters, both are described as having blue eyes. Makes for a weird read with such inconsistencies.

There wasn’t much in the way of character development and the MFC seemed very one dimensional and wasn’t at all likeable until after the wedding. The MMC was more dimensional yet for such a supposed giant of a man and warrior, he refuses to consummate the marriage because he doesn’t want children, due to the risk of losing another wife during the birthing process.

The author used modern colloquialisms and language that didn’t exist in the 1500s. Words such as ‘picnic’ which wasn't used until the mid 1800s to refer to a ‘casual meal’ outdoors.

This story had a different storyline that has never been read. It was a delightful surprise. The characters are described well and give life to the story. Alana starts out trying to help her sister escape an unwanted marriage and takes the risk of the wrath of their father by helping her. Thinking she has is all worked out so that she will take no more than a tongue lashing from the laird, their father, she helps her sister escape the castle. The laird her sister was betrothed to has a rumor surrounding his that shows him as murdering his former wife and infant. Alana’s father is furious that she has ruined the much needed betrothal between her sister and the neighboring laird. What happens next is something that Alana had no idea would happen. She’s feisty, stubborn, and her story is one that is captivating. Great read and loved the storyline.

What a wonderfully exciting story! I absolutely love the interactions of the characters and found the story to tease all of my emotions. Alana "takes one for the team" by agreeing to marry her sister's "bethrothed". Why would she do that? Because, her sister found the love of her life and is starting a family. So, sister Alana agrees to replace her sister's role with Laird Niall, with herself as his new wife. Alana and Niall try soooo hard not to fall for each other, but it turns out that they have more in common that they think. Will they grow to love each other? What about the dispicable Laird that Alana was originally suppose to marry? Author, Lyla Rosewood, penned a perfect tale full of surprises and scenes to steal your heart.

I voluntarily reviewed "A BRIDE FOR THE DEVILISH LAIRD" I was totally hooked on this interesting, intriguing, spice, emotional turmoil, the characters were great.
Alana McFarlan trys to help her sister escape the Castle & the arranged marriage her father wanted but she didn't she was in live with someone else.
Alana was going to take her sisters place & marry Niall McGreggor their chemistry was terrific she wasn't one to back down they would banter back & forth it was love right away for him her feelings were slower but they did come.
Will Niall & Alana get their HEA its a must read especially with his enemies closing in will they survive you have to read to find out you so won't be disappointed.

Alana’s little deception at helping her sister escape an unwanted marriage ended up turning on her. What will she do when her father tells her that she has to take her sister‘s place? Will she deceive her new husband and escape to stay with her sister, or will she stay? This book is fast paced and engaging. With the drama of an impending fight with a neighboring clan and her new status as a married woman to deal with, what choices will she make? I loved this book and highly recommended to anybody who loves the Highland themed books with a little bit of steamy romance thrown in for good measure.

I loved this novel so much!!! The back and forth between Alana and Niall was absolutely terrific. She had a comeback for everything he said, and he didn’t miss a beat either.

His instalove for her was so heartwarming, and watching her learn from the new feelings she never had before was pure.

Am I the only one that reads in their head with the accent from the books they read?

I recommend giving this a read, Niall and Alana will pull you right in. You can’t help but to root for them.

Historical places have always drawn me and that's one of the reasons I love this sort of genre.. I'm not very good with these but if you're a fan who, like myself, loves a good visually written story....

One where you can see the places as if you're actually there, this is a good one! From the grass they walk on to the clench in your chest when words are spoken, you'll be so transported 10/10 you won't forget this journey!

What am I to say but that this novella was truly amazing. The story line continued along beautifully. Every bit made sense at the right time. Both characters were truly the Laird and his lady. And the extended epilogue brought it all to a grand finale. I only wish her father was there to share their happiness.

I liked the story, but I felt like the tension died halfway through. I liked the premise. I liked the characters, but I didn’t like how some of the conversations and actions towards the end played out. I skipped over the intimate parts (thankfully there weren’t a lot). I felt like the ending was a little lackluster, but overall it was a nice story.

This was a wonderful Scottish Highland story by Ms. Rosewood! It is the story of two sisters, one who is betrothed to one man but carrying a baby for her lover. The main story is about Alana who pretends to be the betrothed sister and marries the Highlander, Niall. There is confusion, humor, suspense, and war. I will be looking into more books by Ms. Rosewood!!!

I genuinely loved this story. What Alana found with Niall, was genuine love and fulfillment. I loved that she was able to save his life in so many ways! As he was able to also save hers. Sigh....

I loved the thought that she was going to marry a very mean man, a brute, a murderer, but she gave him a chance and was highly rewarded with her soul mate and a man she so loved. It was a very well told story, one I loved to read.

I loved it! I haven’t read a Scottish romance since I read Julie Garwood’s The Secret! The love story between Niall and Alana starts with a forced marriage, and ends with true love! I still have a smile on my face! I can’t wait to read more of Lyla’s books!

I love this gentle love story! It is awesome the way the two main characters are thrown together because of one decision made by her sister. The poor dad having to make that decision all on his own. A very good read!

This was an awesome read. It was sweet but not sappy. I enjoyed how much of Niall’s thoughts and feelings were portrayed along with Alana’s. Also, it was nice how he could be “handle her” without belittling or disrespecting her. Thank you for your time in giving us this book.
