Ever felt the inkling – or maybe the inner scream – that you aren’t being true to yourself and living the life that’s really meant for you?
It’s time to rediscover your real, genuine and authentic self. Because life is too short to live any other way.
In her work as an authenticity coach, Kat John helps people who feel lost and unable to recognise themselves. Work, families, relationships and trauma have sent their lives in unexpected directions, and they need to find the path back home to their authenticity.
And in her own life, Kat has mastered building connection and fulfillment as her true self. Having overcome identity-shaking struggles including disordered eating, drug addiction, chronic pain and a prolonged recovery from neurosurgery, she’s on a mission to help others find the self-acceptance and inner peace they crave.
Filled with real guidance, raw truths and relatable stories, and perfect for lovers of Glennon Doyle, Brené Brown and Gabrielle Bernstein, Authentic will speak to your soul and help you find the self-alignment to unlock a life that is right, good and true for you.

‘Kat John’s powerful stories and actionable advice will leave you feeling seen, heard and ready to take on the world, just as you are.’ TARYN BRUMFITT
I read/listened this book in one sitting - obviously, I didn't try out all the exercises (though I liked many of them), but I think this is one of those books that I'll refer back to over time. It's an easy read - Kat John's friendly, accessible style is, well, friendly and accessible - like having a cuppa with a good friend who loves you but isn't afraid to tell you hard truths. I enjoyed it overall and found her voice to be easy to listen to.
Having said that - it's perhaps a little simplistic. My 15 yr old son was listening to the final few chapters with me and he definitely felt that it was a bit 'cringe' (his words, not mine) in parts. He felt that she was perhaps trying a bit too hard to be funny and relevant in a space that is pretty much stuffed to capacity. He also has a healthy scepticism for the 'coaching' and 'therapy' spaces from personal experience and didn't feel that it offered anything new or particularly helpful, so it was a big 'no' from him but then he is not this books target audience.
All up, it's an easy, quick read with a few good exercises to help pull you out of your overthinking, self-critical shame spiral and put you back on the road towards understanding yourself better. I agree with my son in that it probably tries a bit hard but then, who doesn't try a bit hard when you are trying to stand out in an overcrowded market and overall, I like Kat John and I think that, whatever the books shortcomings might be, SHE is coming from a place of soft authenticity and there is a lot to like about that.
