So Not My Boss Crush

Rate this book
For six years, Brock Benson was the monster I worked for.
The gorgeous monster—who never even said hello.

Then, one Monday morning, everything changed.

When Brock’s assistant quit in tears and chucked her phone in my waste bin, I had no choice but to answer it. Brock approved, and gave me a promotion I didn’t even want…

Now I’m stuck fielding calls from his desperate ex. Managing his hectic schedule. Even taking care of the two adorable Golden Retrievers his sister ditched at his house. I’m totally intertwined with Brock’s life and—yikes—it’s not terrible. In fact, it’s fun. I like getting late-night texts from him, meeting his family, and running errands at his house.

When he gives me a house key, my heart skips a beat. Our texts are getting more flirty by the business day. And, yes, our usual morning routine has been replaced by stolen kisses in the break room.

But Brock is a total player, while I barely date. He’s go-go-go, and I like to stop and smell the roses. He’s an impeccably dressed millionaire with crazy high standards, and I wear mismatched socks, forget to eat breakfast, and tend to set the bar low.

Crushing on my boss is bad enough. Falling in love with him is completely out of the question. But my heart does somersaults every time he smiles at me, and our chemistry is off the charts. This relationship should come with one of those coffee-cup ‘ CONTENTS HOT.’ We have to cool it off, or else one of us will get burned…

So Not my Boss Crush is a sweet & clean enemies-to-lovers office romance. It features a humble heroine who needs to get in touch with her inner Queen, and a “tough” boss who is actually sweeter than a sugar packet. Expect sizzling chemistry/banter with none of the steam, and a HEA worth smiling about for the rest of the work week!

This book is a delightful read filled with character growth and depth. The characters are relatable and realistic, the witty banter is spot on, and the inclusion of two adorable dogs adds a charming touch. It strikes a perfect balance between humor, drama, and romance.

Gwen instantly became my favorite character in this book; I connected with her right from the start. Brock, on the other hand, took some time to grow on me but by the halfway point, I found myself quite liking him too.

Evie has definitely earned a spot as one of my go-to authors. I’m excited to read more of her books and look forward to her future releases!

First thought: This is the perfect book if you’re in a reading slump or in need of a pallet cleanser. It’s is cute, sweet, has banter, a good story line and a guaranteed HEA. The characters are opposite so it’s fun to flop back and forth in their POV and the best party is this story has adorable dogs!

Gwen has been invisible for the last 6 years to her boss and she likes it that way. But today changes all of that when his personal assistant up and quits and leaves her phone and tablet on her desk! Now her boss, Brock is looking at her for the first time and she doesn’t know what to do.

Brock is trying to run his company and he expects a lot out of his employees. Gwen seems like she can handle covering as his assistant for a few days while they find a replacement. She’s his opposite: where he’s neat and likes order she’s messy and seems to live in a bit of chaos. So this will be interesting.

Gwen is struggling to do it all. She’s trying to juggle her normal job, flipping a house and now her new job doing Brock’s task. Like, he just called her to his house to care for two golden retrievers. Then he gave her a house key and she got a flash of thoughts she should not be having. Has this forced proximity caused her to have a crush on her boss!

This story has more to unpack and lots of cute banter so make sure to check it out to see what happens when you get a crush on your boss.

Literally Themes you’ll find:

* Opposites Attract
* Workplace Romance
* He’s the Boss
* Lots of Dogs
* Secret Crush
* Forced Proximity
* Chemistry & Banter
* Dual POV
* Only Kisses 💋

THOUGHTS 💭:

I’m gonna blame Evie for starting my new obsession with office romances which I was SO NOT ready for! 😂💕 I loved the first book in their series and now we have the second one which was just as fun to read!

Evie’s books are always so comforting and refreshing to read this book no exception! I loved the chemistry between Gwen and Brock and since this book has dual pov, this helped me understand both the characters and what their thoughts were.

Gwen’s character was definitely my favorite one! I loved her so much!! I was instantly connected to her character as I started reading this book but I had mixed feelings for Brock’s character.

There’s a plot to this story which keeps you guessing and I think it was really good!

Overall, I’m gonna recommend this book to sweet romance lovers who enjoy dual pov, enemies to lovers and opposite attracts!

Absolutely adorable! I enjoyed this book immensely. The ML needed some serious character growth and it was good to see that he got that growth. Evie had beautifully written and told this story! 10/10 recommend!

"She's not mediocre. She's not typical. She's captivating."

Another great book by Evie Sterling!

First of all ... I will be adding Brock Benson to my list of book boyfriends, because that man ... dang. 🥵

There was so many good things in this book: the plot, the banter, the character growth, the relatable and realistic FMC (which all of her books have), and two adorable Golden Retrievers!

You get:
• Sweet Romance
• Grumpy X Sunshine
• CEO MMC/Assistant FMC
• Golden Retrievers
• HEA
• Enemies To Lovers
• Meddling Friend

I recommend all of Evie Sterling's books and I suggest you pick up one for your next read! Available on Amazon through KU, ebook, and paperback.

First off let me say that the cover doesn't even match what the FMC looks like. She is supposed to have auburn hair and she dresses like a frumpy, hippie, with mismatched socks and clogs regularly. I might be wrong, but I don't even remember a single scene in the book where the FMC even dressed up like the girl on the cover, so this is was obviously chosen to help sales. It is a cute cover, but doesn't match the MFC at all 😭

Next, I had hight hopes because I'm a huge Kdrama fan and this plot screamed Kdrama plot line! So I did get excited, maybe too excited 😮‍💨

The story never really pulled any sort of emotion out of me, it was just eh in my opinion. I never could connect with the FMC or MMC.

Maybe I'll try another sweet romance again another day. This one wasn't for me.

Need something of a palate cleanser after reading something heavy? Or perhaps a HEA's that revolves around charming characters that get you invested in their stories right away? This book is just the ticket.

Here, we are introduced to a driven, self-disciplined CEO who has locked himself into the belief that to maintain his success he cannot afford relationships. Brock has built his company from the ground up and despite having his close friends find their HEA, staunchly defends his bachelor lifestyle. His company is his baby and therefore all of his time and energy are focused on that. When he needs companionship, there are always models, celebrities and influential women willing to give it. He is a handsome man, and his business is built around fitness and his clothing line so not many of these ladies says no. It does have the effect of giving him a playboy reputation, but he doesn't care about that. At work he is as exacting of his workers as he is of himself. He runs through assistants very quickly and only those who know him well, see the true man behind the growling face.

And then we have Gwen, the sunshine to his cloud. Gwen works in the shipping department of Brock's company where she is a customer service representative. Gwen is thoughtful and genuinely enjoys speaking to customers and engaging with them a personal level. Brock walks by her every day but never see nor greats her or anyone else in the area.

Through a series of misadventures, Gwen ends up acting as Brock's temporary assistant. Brock is gruff and Gwen is soft spoken and intimidated by him. t first, he only feels annoyance that she is not efficient and spends too much time getting to know about the people who work with him or his family. When a close friend and coworker has a newborn on the way, she urges him to buy a present. Something that never occurred to him. As time goes on, Brock starts to see the value in Gwen and her giving heart.

As our story progresses, we learn more about why Brock has such a harsh line on relationships. The author does a fantastic job of revealing that reason in a very relatable way. As his eyes open to Gwen's approach to people, he gradually softens to her.

Gwen, meanwhile, is having her own character growth. She sees that sometimes being so giving and understanding of everyone else means she has little time for herself. Also, even as the romantic tension the two increases, she struggles to accept that Brock could truly be interested in her. Given his playboy reputation, she is hard pressed to believe he could truly want someone as ordinary as she perceives herself to be.

The story of how they work through these issues, is well written and believable. How they get to their HEA is heartwarming with realistic challenges to overcome. As Brock and Gwen realize independently of each other who and what they really want, the author incorporates the journey into the plot seamlessly.

I enjoyed this book very much and would strongly recommend to anyone looking for a lighthearted read that keeps the romance to kisses and the passion implied and not written outright. It's to the authors credit that the reader know what Brock and Gwen are feeling without having to spell it out.

I would also urge you to check out some of Ms. Sterling's books as I have enjoyed them very much.

cute!

Very sweet! In all honesty, I skipped some of it. It’s my inclination to skip any conflict parts, based on my mood. So for me, it was all smooth sailing, fluffy fluff. (Yes, I am sadly one of those people who does not treat every page as sacred, but that doesn’t lessen the value of the book, for me.)

I give it five stars because it made me happy 😊 and it was interesting to see their different worlds. The podcast, work out dude world and mentality, and the trying to house flip, chill lady mentality. Two very different but also similar people, because you have to be wildly self motivated to house flip or create your own fitness business.

I like learning about different worlds/ways of being an adult lol when I read rom coms. Not sure how closely related it is to an author’s life, so I guess I can’t rely on it entirely, but it helps me see people and opportunities differently. Inspires me to dream and go for more than whatever is in front of me, but also to enjoy what is in front of me.

Love slice of life for that, no matter how close or far from reality it is. I wonder how many other people like to read romcoms as a way to peer into other parts of the world. It’s not necessarily the genre people think of as educational. I think it is, though. Reminds me that everyone around me has a story and is alive.

Brock didn’t notice the love of his life for six years, but when he finally was knocked out of his flow and talked to her, his whole world shifted. How many of us pass by people as if they’re inanimate, barely one dimensional characters? Do you ever walk down a street and really pay attention to every person you pass? Depends on where you live, I guess, on whether or not you feel comfortable doing that, or if there’s even a person to pass by.

I used to do something like that in high school. Walk down the hallway and try to fathom the concept that all around me each of these kids had separate lives, and they mattered. And even by the time I’d graduated, I wouldn’t know most people in my grade personally. I couldn’t even recognize everyone at graduation.

I love romances that have that element in them, where two peoples’ realities have been just out of touch for years and then they collide.

Thank you for a wonderful book, Evie!

4,5 stars, rounded to 5

I enjoyed this book a lot. So much that even though I’m always reading multiple books at the same time I began this sweet romance one evening and finished the next.

I was immediately invested in the story and Gwen is so far my absolute favorite character by Evie. (I’ve read three of her books and liked all the main characters and most of the side characters, but Gwen is just adorable!)

It took me a bit longer to warm to Brock, mostly because I’m not the biggest fan of the “reformed player” trope, but I could definitely see the two of them together.

There were so many funny and sweet moments between the two of them (Gwen mostly providing for the funny parts in her quirky, sometimes slightly awkward blabbering) and Evie managed it again to “use” furry companions to form a bond between the characters. (She absolutely knows how to write authentic scenes where the character’s care for a child or animal changes the way the other main character sees him or her and I love it!)

The romance and everything around it (like the character growth of both Gwen and Brock) happens a bit quickly, there seems to be a tiny problem with the timeframe concerning the “big problem” near the end (but I can’t really say more without a spoiler) and there were a few things I didn’t really agree with. (Ghosting someone isn’t okay and it’s not the same thing as not being able to say no IMO, even though I do understand how these things are related, I would have wished for Gwen to apologize, because I really really hate this kind of behavior.)

Other than these tiny issues I really enjoyed the book and will definitely read more by Evie Sterling.

It’s a lighthearted read but not without depth, with great characters, witty banter, two adorable dogs and just the right mix between humor, drama and romance.

* Thank you to the author for letting me read an advanced copy of this book. I leave this review voluntarily and the expressed opinions are my own. (I received an eARC via BookSprout.)

I enjoyed this engaging quick-burn boss/employee romance. After six years of working unnoticed for fitness guru Brock, Gwen ended up on his radar when his beleaguered assistant quick and Gwen found herself temporarily filling the role. The attraction between Brock Gwen hit hard and fast, fighting through the romance hang-ups they each had. It quickly showed the promise of more, but a roadblock appeared to threat their potential future. “‘When you think you had nothing left, that’s when things get really good. That’s when you push through and find out what you’re capable of. You find parts of yourself you never had to use before.’” The romance had strong intensity. It felt to me like it moved forward at a pace I didn’t expect, which I liked. There was also a small secondary romance that added layers to the story. The characters were great and interesting. There’s Gwen: “But most of my life is spent in moments exactly like this. Me, floundering. Me, making mistakes. Me, wishing for a do-over.” And then Brock: “‘And heaven knows, Brock can’t handle messes. He likes everything to be perfect. Perfect, orderly, and under his thumb.’” I appreciated that the inevitable relationship-challenging issue was not a flimsy miscommunication that they failed to communicate about. It was a legitimate problem and even if it could have been dealt with better, it wasn’t totally unreasonable for it to go the way it did. There were some fun touches that enriched the story, like the dogs, Mini Windsor Castle, the friends, and so on. The epilogue was adorable and so sweet. There are some brief elements of divorce, car accident, parental estrangement, death, and grief. This is closed door romance with a moderate amount of mild innuendo and no harsh language.

Another success in the "My not so fairytale life" series

I'm loving this series, as the name hints it, isn't pure swetness like a lot of the clean romance around. It has sizzling chemistry and realistic emotions (the good and the bad). But nothing to dark, just tiny hints to show the real world.

Gwen & Brock are the perfect example of opposites attract, of complementing each other. I loved that their connection was instant the moment they met (officially 😆). Loved that even when they know they shouldn't explore their feelings (because the boss/employee thing) and both were afraid of what they were feeling, they just couldn't help it. It was the natural course.

By the first impression of Brock, I thought I wouldn't quite click with his character, but Evie did her magic with words and made it happen, around the half of the first chapter with his POV I liked him too. And I loved Gwen, she is the kind of person that is always there for people, but not the stereotypical mat girl who just can't say no (maybe except with her little brother). The unpleasant things she did, was because it was work well remunerated (and it wasn't something outrageous, the only really bad thing was the extra time and effort).

The only thing that I didn't like was the cover. Don't get me wrong, I like the design, but it doesn't represent the characters (I need at least the clogs!).

But overall, I loved it. If it weren't for my current loads of work I would have read it in one sit.

“As I sit there, reading the text a second time and feeling flooded with happy jitters, I know without a doubt that I’m falling- head over clogs- for my boss.”

📌Summary:
For six years Gwen worked for Brock Benson and he never even noticed her all this time. That stops when his personal assistant quits and she has to take over. But the stakes are high for two reasons, a) Brock has a full schedule from dawn till dusk, he is very demanding and he seems like he is made of ice and b) Gwen always has had a crush on him and the close proximity doesn’t help.
Whereas Brock seems very pulled together, Gwen seems the opposite of him. Even though all these things could pull them apart, they can’t stop themselves from falling for each other.

📌Review:
I read the book in a day and a half, that’s all it took, it was so easy to read and I enjoyed the company of the characters so much.

While Brock seemed like he didn’t have feelings in the beginning, it was so nice to gradually see him open up.

The dual pov really helped with understanding both sides.

Also the the subplot about someone spying on Brock’s company gave the book another level while adding to the plot of the story.

📌Thoughts:
If you love cozy romantic books with the enemies to lovers trope, don’t walk, run to pre-order it now on Amazon.

📌Fan fucts: While you are at it, check out the other books from the author, such as: So Not My Mr WRight, Digging Up Love With The Sheriff, Game, Set, MatchMaker etc

Gwen is working to her bones to support herself and get herself out of debt. Brock is CEO of Epic Elevate where she works.
Mandy, his assistant, who is over-worked and over-stressed due to workaholic Brock, decides to quit one day and ends up leaving behind her company phone and tablet at Gwen’s desk.

Unfortunately for Gwen who has managed to lay low for the past 6 years at the company, Brock stops by and learns of Mandy’s sudden departure and finally notices her. With some meddling from her friend/head of HR, she ends up becoming Brock’s assistant.

With Gwen filling for the assistant role temporarily, she is forced into close proximity with Brock on a daily basis. This forces her out of her comfort zone as they are opposites of each other with Gwen undermining her own self worth while Brock is brimming with confidence.

After getting divorced (many years ago), Brock has never dated seriously and prefers short flings. When he finally “sees” Gwen, he is attracted to how warm and genuine she is. Due to his status, many women are attracted to him for what he has rather than who he is.

Overall, I love the pacing and the dual POV which allows us to see the growing attraction from both Gwen and Brock. Their moments together are so sweet and I like the protective side of Brock. I also like the side plot with Brock’s sister and Gwen’s brother too.

Rating this a 4.25 because of the third act breakup which I would have preferred not to have happened 😆

So Not My Boss Crush by Evie Sterling

⭐️ 4/5

🐶 Office Romance
🐶 Opposites Attract
🐶 HEA
🐶 Reformed Playboy MMC
🐶 Relatable Bubbly FMC

I can always count on Evie Sterling to give my hopeless romantic heart exactly what its looking for, Evie Sterling does clean sweet romances and they are always so beautiful. This one was no different we have two very different main characters, Brock never noticed Gwen before but once he does he wonders how he ever missed her... for six years. Gwen never missed Brock, she always saw him and when she has the chance to help him she can't say no, not just because she is a kind and caring person, but because he offers her the solution to her problems, what she didn't count on was becoming so close and so attached to him so quickly.

Brock is a workaholic and a perfectionist where as gwen is more of a free spirit with an open heart, she helps brock to see how he can be more helpful and considerate to those around him, how he doesn't have to be in control of everything and it will all still be okay, he sees the perfection in her imperfections and adores her for her big golden heart, with some minor complications they have a bit of drama but with the help of Brocks sister it all quickly gets resolved, Gwen and Brock were most definitely made for each other and their happy ending couldn't be sweeter.

I hope you all enjoy this as much as i did, Happy Reading 🥰🖤

I will admit at first I was nervous about how quickly Gwen and Brock began to fall for each other. That said. the longer it went on, the more realistic it felt.

Brock is so tone-deaf about how he comes off. How did he not notice how much of a jerk he sounded when talking to most people? It felt more like a caricature than an actual person when we first met him. It was like Gwen reminded him to act like a decent human being.

There are so many wonderful meddling characters in this book. Among them are Brock's sister, Gwen's best friend, and even Gwen's mother. Knowing all of them were rooting for the duo made the book have a nice and comfy vibe.

The part of the book that really surprised me was the plot twist. It truly felt like it suddenly came out of left field. I would've loved to have seen a few foreshadowing moments leading up to the climax of the story.

Overall, this story is a pretty lighthearted romance. There are some instalovey vibes but I do suggest you give it a chance. The side characters are what really made this story shine. Their meddling and genuine nature was a refreshing element to the story.

Evie Sterling's "So Not My Boss Crush" is a super cute office romance about Gwen and her boss Brock going from enemies to lovers. Gwen gets a promotion to be Brock's assistant and suddenly her life is filled with late-night texts, family events, and taking care of cute dogs. Both Gwen and Brock go through some cool character development from being shy and tough to more open and appreciative of relationships. It's a fun read!

Sterling's writing is super easy to get into, focusing on cute romance that's both sweet and satisfying. The book really gets you with its heartwarming story about growth and love. It delves into finding yourself, balancing work and personal life, and having the guts to be true to yourself. Sterling keeps the mood light and the dialogue snappy to drive these points across, using tricks like dramatic irony and comedy along the way.

"So Not My Boss Crush" is a really cute book with a great story and characters that you can totally relate to. If you're into clean romance with some humor and heart, this is definitely a book I'd suggest. The way the story is set up makes it an easy read, perfect for when you just want to escape into a world of real feelings and sweet moments. Overall, Evie Sterling's book is a great choice if you want a feel-good story that'll make you happy. Whether you need a break or just want a happy ending, this book won't disappoint.

Happy Pub Day and Review Post!

We're so excited to announce that we are a part of Evie Sterling's ARC Team for, So Not My Boss Crush, through @haylingbookstorm Master ARC Team. Evie Sterling is an indie author who writes sweet and clean romance!

Blurb: For six years, Brock Benson was the monster I worked for. The gorgeous monster—who never even said hello. Then, one Monday morning, everything changed.

When Brock’s assistant quit in tears and chucked her phone in my waste bin, I had no choice but to answer it.

We have to cool it off, or else one of us will get burned…

Review: I have mixed feelings on this book. I didn't care for the MMC, but I LOVED Gwen. She had major first child syndrome and wanted to help everyone, but that made me love her even more. This was a Hallmark movie with a sweet romantic ride to the guaranteed happy ending.

In this story we can see Gwen, a shy and sweet gilr, hard working and caring, that by caring too much ends up giving the right advice that put her on the spot and gets "promoted" by force into being Brock's assistant. With all that she has going on  it dosn't help her stress levels but the money comes in handy, and she goes with the flow.
In the beggining her idea of him is not the best, but once they start spending time together she sees that he is trully a good guy (with several trust issues)!
I started this book hating Brock. Gosh, what an As* he was! But, this was areally wrong first impression. It turns out he was like a little rough diamond.. he just needed to be polished  :D
I can actually relate to Gwen. The shy and sweet girl, who doesn't like confrontations, and has a hard time telling people no and letting them down . Who struggles to get things done even if she has to overwork herself.
She was good for him. She reminded him to be more human! (And not a working maniac robot!). And he showed her that it was ok to rely on others and let them know when she needed their help.
They had a bit of a misunderstanding about problems in the company and it was a 3rd act bumpy road, but they surely get to their HEA.

I received a digital ARC of this book. I love Evie’s books. I started this book and finished it today. Gwen has worked for the same company for 6 years, she’s said “good morning” to her boss every morning as he passes her desk and he never replies. Then one morning she’s talking his assistant down from a nervous breakdown and she quits right at Gwen’s desk. Throws her cell phone and tablet in her trash can. While Gwen and her bff Lizzie are arguing over who should go tell their boss his assistant just quit, he shows up. The assistant cell phone is ringing so Gwen answers it and deals with the phone call. He decides she should be his temporary assistant. He says she can name her price, she says 3x her pay and he agrees. Gwen needs the money but she’s not sure she’s ready to deal with being Brock’s assistant. Especially after he texts her after hours on the first night to come deal with some dogs his sister dropped off unannounced at his house. But as they start flirting one night and walls start crumbling, lines become blurred. This book will take you on a little bit of a roller coaster though. However, if you enjoy Hallmark movies, then this book will be right up your alley!

Gwen is the person who is always there for everybody. Always the one to go the extra step to help out and make sure others are happy. She worked at the company for six years. Six years that he never notices her, or even replies when she says "Good morning" to her boss. Its as if she doesn't exist. She knows she's no model or celebrity or even noteworthy, but really to dismiss her like that. Now his assistant has just up and left and suddenly he expects me to pick up her job as well as my own. Brock can't understand what her problem is, he pays her wages, he keeps her in a job. Yet now she's moaning about the extra work. Does she realise how hard he works, if it wasn't for him none of his staff would be working. This is a story of how you should never judge anybody on first sight there is always more that what you first see. Both characters have their own insecurities and find it hard to actually trust others. It's quite a slow burn and really takes time to break through the walls they've both put up. But the story draws you in and you end up hoping the Gwen finally learns her true worth.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. Gwen Temple works in the shipping department at Epic Elevate. Brock Benson, the CEO, is constantly moving and it is taking a toll on his assistant. So much of a toll that she quits in the middle of her shift after having a discussion with Gwen. Gwen ends up getting the job to fill in until a replacement is hired. Gwen needs the extra money offered to complete a house flipping that is running way over budget. Gwen is in over her head and now she is the assistant to the Energizer Bunny.

Gwen is such a great person. She turns Brock's world upside down. Brock finds himself wanting to spend time with Gwen instead of working all the time. This shift is scary. Will he use and excuse to stop whatever is happening between them? Ms. Sterling is a great storyteller. Her stories are relatable and realistic. She gives readers adult problems and adult solutions. Her characters are grown. I love that. Readers will understand and empathize with all of the characters. Their reactions are realistic and allow readers to get lost in the world created for us.

Brock owns the company that Gwen works for. He has ignored her for 6 years. His PA talks to Gwen about the issues she is having at the moment and Gwen tells her to talk to Brock. Well the PA went further and quit without telling Brock. It came to Lizzy (best friend and head of human resources) and Gwen to tell Brock that his PA quit. Gwen was the one that ended up having to tell him and he made her start answering the PA's phone. He tells Lizzy to get an ad posted for the position and asks Gwen to fill in temporarily with a raise. Brocks sister brings her dogs to his house to go out of town and Brock calls Gwen for help. They start to get comfortable with each other and flirt a little while dealing with the dogs. They both have a crush on each other but they are afraid to try anything in reality and he is also her boss. Through the week he does things for her that she doesn't know how to receive. She has been independent for so long she doesn't know what to do when someone besides Lizzy does something nice for her. Although Brock wants to see where this will go he is still reluctant. He is given some false information and disaster strikes the two.

Gwen Temple is seeing red... in her bank account that is... after diving in headfirst on a house flipping adventure with her brother Caleb, she finds the bills piling up.

Brock Benson aka the "energizer monster" is the CEO of Epic Elevate, a fitness company where Gwen (and bff Lizzie) has been working the last six years.

She thinks he doesn't know she exists but she couldn't be more wrong.

When Brock's assistant up and quits, she leaves Gwen holding the bag (well, sparkly phone and tablet in this case) and she has to scramble to bring herself up to speed or risk the wrath of her no-nonsense boss.

While I typically read open-door romances, this one was so cute that I read it in a day because I couldn't get enough of the banter between these two and just how personable Gwen was in comparison to Brock who learns how to slow down and appreciate the little things throughout the book.

... I would have liked a little more backstory on Brock's failed marriage/accident and the cover didn't really embody the main characters. I was admittedly a little confused when Gwen was always in slouchy sweaters and Brock was in sneakers.

So Not My Boss Crush by Evie Sterling is a sweet, company-based romance.

** I would like to express my thanks to ☆ Evie Sterling ☆ & ☆ HaylingBookstorm ☆ for providing me this ARC in exchange for an honest review **

A grumpy boss, who does not care for a serious relationship. Just a girl with piling bills and the luck to pick up a ringing phone, and becoming the grumpy boss’s assistant. I really liked the start of the story, where I felt quite invested in Gwen’s story, struggling to pick up the bills. She jumps at any opportunity to make more money to offset the red in her bank account. Of course, having this sort of company relationship between the boss and the assistant! But ignoring that and just looking at this book just as a piece of literature. I thought that the book was enjoyable.
Gwen was really a person that allowed Brock to slow down and to see at what he was missing out on. Brock also made concessions to be with Gwen.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a good Enemies to Lovers book.

A standalone story that can be read without reading the other book in the series.

Gwen & Brock couldn’t be more opposite from one another.

Gwen is quiet, keeps her head down at work & keeps her circle small.

Brock is a social butterfly who is constantly “on”.
He owns a successful business & is quite the ladies' man.

When Gwen is forced to become Brock’s assistant she sees a quick way to make some cash, even if they are oil & water.

What starts as annoying & overwhelming quickly turns into attraction
& early morning flirting over breakfast.

I thought that Gwen & Brock complemented each other well.
Gwen helped Brock to slow down & enjoy the little things.
Brock helped Gwen come out of her shell & find the fun in mundane tasks.

I struggled a bit with the Insta love, as that seemed a bit unrealistic for two people who didn’t know each other, even if they did have an existing boss & employee relationship.

Overall, another homerun from Evie Sterling & I can’t wait to see what she dreams up next.

What a sweet romance! I loved the unique characters, the fast-paced plot, the authentic substance of the conflict, the comprehensive epilogue…
I like a book that moves quickly rather than wait until chapter 10 for the MCs to meet. Bonus points that they fell in love in a matter of days rather than months of working into those thoughts through slow internal dialogue.
This is not only an adorable love story that had me begging them to get together and squealing when they did; it’s a reminder of how to live your life. I want to be more like Gwen, finding time even on the busiest of days to really listen to others and make genuine connections. I want to be like Gwen’s grandma, paying attention to the little things because those are the things that matter when you look back. I want to be like Brock, willing to recognize you’ve been focusing on all the wrong things and not too proud to admit that you need to reevaluate your life.

Gwen works for Brock and he has barely noticed her at work for the past six years. When his assistant quits on the spot, Gwen is tasked with filling in until there is a replacement. Feelings between them grow quickly and both of them are taken aback by how quickly they fall for one another. Meanwhile, Brock's company is being sabotaged by someone and he hires a private investigator to figure out who it is.

I really liked that the book focused on Gwen, Brock and their relationship. This book did not stray into other avenues that could easily distract you from the main story. Obviously there was more to the book than just the two of them getting together, but it was nice that there weren't many sub-characters to get hung up on. The book had Brock learn to be an adult in a healthy relationship and that was a good read also.

I will recommend this book to those who like a good, clean romance.

Thank you for the copy, this is my honest opinion.

Gwen has been working for Brock Benson's company for 6 years. For 6 years he has been walking past her desk, never returning her greeting. Until the day that Mandy, his PA, just ups and quits without notice, and Gwen is roped in to be his PA while they try to recruit a replacement for Mandy.

Brock is driven, and is working hard to build his company. Having had his heart broken in the past, he doesn't see the point of emotional attachments. Until Gwen.

I LOVED this book! I loved Gwen's personality, and the way she could just connect with everyone she came into contact during her daily activities, and just make them feel seen and heard. I loved how Brock's soft side showed through enough to let Gwen see it. I enjoyed the plotline, and the side-characters.

I really fun read that I plan to re-read in the future...

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Awww swooning

This book gave me so many feels and I absolutely love it. I adore Brock and Gwen. So cute together.

Gwen had been working for Brock for a long time now but feels she is unseen and ignored by him. When Brock’s assistant suddenly quits, Gwrn ends up filling in for him. After that, she is definitely seen.

Gwen is messy and wears oversized cardigans and Brock is neat and does workouts every day and has his own company. Total opposites. But you know what they say about opposites? When Brock ends up witj his sister's dogs for a bit, he needs Gwen to do more than the usual work for him and help with the dogs. This means they spend more time together.

While spending time, they get closer. They both start feeling things but feel may be wrong because he's her boss. So many things happen in this book and some amazing side characters. Love the digs too. Such a sweet closed door romance. Evie has yet again wrote an amazing book.
