Increasingly morbidly obsessed with this period: a sort of evil golden age, full of wild and dubious Arts and Crafts and Baroque monsters. This is a good, fair-minded guide, but also (wholly unintentionally) pinpoints the precise wrong turning in early 20th century British architecture - the Palladian Revival Revival circa 1910, which spurned the quite lively and interesting Free Style and Baroque trends in favour of the always very bad idea of "Good Taste".
