4.5 stars. Amazing for a standalone having read nothing earlier in the series.

A seriously engaging serial killer thriller, police procedural with an interesting kidnapping side story. Was hooked very early on. Loved the characters, despite not having read along in earlier books.

I have read the Katz series and there's awesome crossover.

I will undoubtedly continue with the next one to drop in both this series and the Katz series.

Thank you to the lovely Debra for the fun buddy read - really enjoying reading D.K. Hood books together and be sure to check out her review.

Please check TWs online.

Book 22 in the series and it may be one of my favourites yet! Not just because one of the characters has my name… thanks so much DK Hood for using my name! I just loved the frantic pace this story moved at. There was something happening all the time and I was turning pages like a mad woman 😅😅

I always enjoy a trip back to Serial Killer Central, Black Rock Falls. We had 2 big storylines happening in this one, and the team had to give it all they had. One of their own is in grave danger and another one is a suspect!! Oh my word.. it was fantastic. I had to keep reading and find out what was going to happen. So intense and shocking.

Thanks so much to Bookouture for my advanced copy of this book to read. Publishes on May 21st and another cracker of a read.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this awesome book

i have so been looking forward to this book for a couple of months...well any book by dk hood is special but none more so than this one as i am a character in it...whoop whoop

but apart from that you know that you are going to have a brilliant read and you are going to be exhausted reading it because what this author does to its characters... she shows no mercy to them and they are put through some horrendous stuff at times and this book you feel the tension she puts them through... poor dave and jenna and carter

when Dakota Slade fails to turn up for work a welfare check is sent out and on discovering her body the team gather round to find any clues and try to find any suspects....

but this is no ordinary crime and they are about to pit their wits against possibly one of their own

its a tense time all round for everyone as another body turns up .....

oh my goodness me this one is a tense one and yet again dk hood made me cry at the ending....

cant wait for the next book in the fabulous series... i need to go a lie down now...

Oh my!! Black Rock Falls has a new killer in town and this time they’ve gone one step further. They’re making the dating scene that bit more dangerous than the usual sharks that prey on women!

Throw into the mix a suspect looking much like one of the trusted team and you’ve got a difficult case to crack for my favourite sheriff’s department! Do they really think their friend is capable of murdering innocent women??

This 22nd thriller puts the team through the wringer with events. The smell of burnt flesh is not a nice one! I felt so guilty for suspecting one of the team for the these heinous crimes – had Hood really done the unthinkable and planted a murderer in the team that investigates such crimes?

Eyes Shut Tight is an electrifying addition to the Kane and Alton series in so so many ways! Hood has yet again created a psychopath with a novel and shocking killing method and hidden that individual in plain sight. By adding an established character as a potential suspect took the intrigue to another level. Bravo!!!

D.K. Hood propels her great series forward with yet another strong addition. Full of twists and mystery, Hood keeps bettering her series with new cases and localized sentiments of rural America throughout. When women turn up dead in their homes around Black Rock Falls, Sheriff Alton worries that yet another serial killer is lurking in the shadows. The case begins strong, but a kidnapping case to home offers up some added worry. Sheriff Alton will have to work with dedication before more victims emerge. Hood delivers and keeps the reader hooked throughout yet another intense mystery.

The excitement of waiting has her eager for this date. She has been looking forward to it for so long and he is so very kind to her. However, when he arrives, the connection between them turns tense as he glares at her from across the room. What was to be a great date has soon turned bad and she is not even able to scream to alert anyone else.

Dakota Slade has not turned up for work, which is highly out of character for her. A call from the town’s general store sends Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy (and husband), Dave Kane, to the scene. They are not sure what they ought to do, but prefer to be proactive and choose to visit Dakota’s Black Rock Falls home. When they arrive, Alton and Kane find Dakota’s house in disarray. She’s laying on the couch, her lifeless body not showing anything specific. It is only when they have the body examined that two scorch marks appear on Dakota’s skin, signs of being electrocuted, perhaps by a taser. Could this be a one-off or is something larger afoot? Either way, Sheriff Alton cannot wait for answers to emerge.

Rushing to gather any evidence she can acquire, Sheriff Alton begins trying to piece Dakota’s last days. She attended church and volunteered at many charities, which only adds questions as to who might have wanted her dead. It is only when another woman is found in her living room with the same scorch marks that Sheriff Alton and Deputy Kane are sure that someone is targeting local women, though a motive is still not clear. They are convinced that there is a crazed killer using his wiles to gain access to their homes. This is further supported by CCTV footage, where both women are seen chatting some someone... but could it be? This looks like someone Alton and Kane know well, a part of the law enforcement community.

Rushing to help put everything together, another mystery rises to the surface when Deputy Kane and his son—shared with Sheriff Alton—go missing. Panic that this could be the same killer fills Sheriff Alton’s brain, but there could be other reasons. Kane arrived in Black Rock Falls with a secret life he wanted kept hidden and what he knows could bring down many very dangerous people. As Sheriff Alton seeks to juggle both cases, she has to keep everything in order so that she does not lose the needed momentum. A killer is on the loose and that must be her immediate concern. With a killer out there, Sheriff Alton will have to do whatever she can, or face more bodies piling up and on her conscience. Hood delivers a stunning thriller that opens the door to many of the mysteries that have been left blurry for readers up to this point.

This series has so many great elements of a stellar thriller collection. The small-town policing keeps the reader connected with everyone in the story, while also exemplifying numerous mysteries and cases to keep the action high. Strangers are common, making crimes not all that unlikely for those who live in and around this small community The narrative flows well and keeps the reader hooked from the outset, providing strong themes and keeping the story from straying. As things build, Hood is able to deliver a few twists and turns, forcing the reader to stay focussed as they seek to answer questions before the final page turn. Characters, both those who recur and new faces, offer a flavouring to the story and keep the series sharp. I can only wonder how long things will continue, as Hood does not seem to be losing any momentum with her writing.

Plot is key to the series, as it keeps things running smoothly and with various levels of unpredictability. Hood knows how to deliver surprises throughout, peppering in twists to keep the series fresh. The story keeps the reader guessing and leaves little known from the outset, which has the reader engaged until the final reveal, with a surprise cliffhanger to end the novel. Hood delivers book after book that blows things wide open. I cannot wait to see what’s to come.

Kudos, Madam Hood, for yet another dazzling story that kept me in suspense.

Oh Ms Hood you did try to put me through the wringer! So much so I blitzed the audiobook almost in one sitting! I couldn't believe and wouldn't believe what was being said - there is no way! And those poor poor girls :( no one deserves this. *sigh*

But what a thrilling book that kept me hooked so late in to the night and that I finished it when I was at work - I needed to know that what is being led to believe, was in fact wrong! I mean I knew in my heart it was wrong but when Kane and Alton start to doubt it - you know it's time to worry!

Plus! Yes plus!! There was terrifying side plot, and I had no idea 1, it was going to happen and 2, would things ever be the same! I was crying, when Jenna was in the stables and the helicopter landed - my jaw dropped and I was screaming at her to run! Oh my!! It just broke the façade that everyone was safe, because it's not true, the perimeter was breached and hell broke loose!

I can't believe how fresh and exciting things feel as we are in Book 22, and that wonderful clanger at the end, well things are going to be more interesting and dicey! I am over the moon and so blinking worried at the same time! I just feel bereft that I blasted this so quickly, not sure what to do with myself now until the next book.......

The twenty second book in this fantastic series, it could be read on its own but I love how the characters have developed throughout the series & love the relationship between Dave & Jenna. Another edge of the seat thriller which I devoured in a couple of sittings
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own

Hood continues to amaze me with her writing talents. I am as hooked on this series as I was from the first book I read.
There are many tense moments in the story and a favorite team member is actually regarded as a suspect.
I liked how Hood drew in some of the more peripheral characters and I hope; their stories are added in with future books.
Kane continues to be the man with his skills, knowledge, and abilities.
AI is a major theme in the book and it’s scary because it’s actually happening.
The ending brings a great surprise and a new twist to the Jenna and Dave story.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the early read.

Another brilliant crime thriller from DK Hood.
It’s always good to catch up with Kane and Alton and you always know it’s going to be a story to get your heart racing.
This book is no exception, and with one of the main characters’ life being in danger, this is a real page turner.
The story begins with a woman being found unresponsive at home, seemingly watching TV. But when they get into the house, it’s clear she has been murdered. Soon another single woman is found dead and Jenna wants the killer to be stopped.
This is a great crime thriller with some nail biting moments, and I loved every minute of it.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Eyes Tight Shut is book 22 in the Detective Kane and Alton series by DK Hood. This was one of the scariest books to read as one of our beloved characters meets up with some very bad men. If you've read the series since the beginning your heart will be in your throat as you turn the pages at record speed to find out what happens. If this is your first book in the series you will enjoy it thoroughly and you'll be hooked on the series. I'm ready for the next book and I just finished this one. DK Hood is an amazing writer of suspense and does a fantastic job keeping the reader on edge and scared throughout this book.

Dakota Slade's boss at the general store calls the sheriff's office as Dakota never made it in to work. She's never missed a day of work and no one can reach her. Sheriff Jenna Alton and her husband, depute David Kane, go to her home in Black Rock Falls. Dakota is single, lives alone, and her house is not close to any other house. When they arrive they can see the woman sitting on the sofa watching the tv, which is turned up very loud. Upon entry it's obvious that Dakota is dead. The smell hits them first and then they look at Dakota. Her eyes are gone, just black holes now. Jenna notices 2 marks on the back of her neck like a stun gun would leave. They determine she's been electrocuted and most likely with an amped up stun gun. It's hard to determine time of death because the killer turned the heat up very high. Who would kill this young woman and why? She worked hard, kept to herself, went to church regularly, and volunteered with charities around town.

As they're investigating Dakota's murder another call comes in about a young woman who didn't show for work. When Jenna's team goes to investigate they find the same thing as the first murder scene. She's on her sofa watching tv and the sound is up high. The heat's been turned up high and upon entry the smell overwhelms them. The same 2 marks are found on the back of her neck and her eyes are also gone from the electrocution. She lives alone and her house is also far from other houses. Jenna and Dave are concerned that they've got a killer preying on young single women who live alone. Why would anyone want to kill these women? They're liked at their workplace, their customers like them, they volunteer in the community so why are they being killed?

Jenna and Dave live in Black Rock Falls with their newly adopted son, Tauri. Tauri has brightened their lives and they love him so very much. Tauri is 5 years old and in kindergarten. The family they've created along with their dog, Duke, is just beautiful. As Jenna's team dive deeper into the investigations, they search videos for clues. The murdered women were both seen talking to a handsome blonde man in a cowboy hat and wearing cowboy boots. As Jenna continues to look at images, she sees one that she doesn't believe! How could this man, someone she trusts. be in videos talking to the murdered girls the day they were murdered? Have they been wrong about him all along? Psychopaths are said to fit in and be regular members of the community before they're caught? Could he really be a killer?

Buckle up and get comfortable because you won't be able to put this book down! I have loved every book in this series, but this one was the scariest for reasons I can't give away! Trust me when I say you need to read this book! I rate Eyes Tight Shut 5 stars with my very highest recommendation. I'm still unnerved by this book and I finished it over an hour ago. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Eyes Tight Shut in exchange for a fair review. Eyes Tight Shut is available on May 21 so don't miss it! #EyesTightShut

Thanks to NetGalley and the punisher for my copy of this book.

When a local girl is found dead, by way of a stun gun sheriff Jenna Alton, and her husband deputy Dave Kane and the team are called into investigate. In time more victims are found and the evidence points to FBI agent Ty Carter being the murderer.

Oh my goodness! My heart was racing and I had goosebumps within the first few chapters of this book. The side storyline with Kane seemed to be the beginning of the end! And all signs pointing to Carter made me not want to read on. (But equally desperate to read on!).

I can’t believe this is book 22 in the series. I’m completely invested in these characters-especially after that cliffhanger ending (that can I just say I’ve been waiting on that one for a while!). Just when I think nothing else can happen in Black Rock Falls, D.K Hood pulls it out the bag and creates another absolutely smashed it story.

Fast pace, ref herrings, amazing relationships, doubt, mistrust. This had it all. I liked how this story also started to involve Piper within the team.

An amazing, fantastic, engaging book. I’ve devoured it over the course of a day and I’m already excited for book 23! Loved it!!

Thus series is one I am always looking forward to and that is still going strong.

It's a bit double for me. On the one hand, I want a new book very much because I am utterly captivated by the stories, but on the other hand I am always a bit afraid too. Afraid something is going to happen to either Jenna or Dave which might be the ending of the series. I sincerely hope the author has a lot of inspiration to keep them going for a very, very long time.

As strange as it may seem, the characters have a special place in my heart. If I have to pick a favorite one, it has to be Dave. He is a big, strong fighting machine, but with a big heart beating inside.

So yes, once again I was sitting on the edge of my seat and praying to keep the recurring characters safe.

At the end of the book it's time to celebrate Thanksgiving and there seems to be a lot to be grateful for...

Needless to add I had my eyes wide open, because I did not want to miss the tiniest detail. 5 stars

Thank you

Lock and bolt the doors, turn on all the lights, set the guard dog and keep your phone close to hand… as we return to Black Rock Falls, Serial Killer Central.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review "Eyes Tight Shut", the 22nd book in the Detectives Kane and Alton series, and my 21st review of the series (also have read and reviewed both 'origin' stories). Each one has been a suspenseful thrill ride - and Eyes Tight Shut is a prime example.

Thanksgiving approaches in Black Rock Falls, and Sheriff Jenna Alton's team would be thankful if the holiday could pass without any major criminal activity; but if wishes were horses....

The man they're calling the Casanova Killer befriends single, lonely women - and they end up dead in the most gruesome of ways. Dakota Slade thought she’d made a new friend; he knew he had a new victim. Unfortunately, she’s not the last.

Early on, all the available evidence seems to point to one of their own - Ty Carter, and FBI Agent who works with Jo Wells and who has been instrumental in helping solve many previous killings!

Just as the investigation is beginning, while out for his customary Saturday morning motorcycle ride - Dave Kane is taken! All that they find are his damaged motorcycle and helmet, and some blood. Is this an echo from his past, or the result of a more recent investigation? He’s vanished completely, not even his tracking module is working! Is this something from his past? Or his present? And what does it mean for the safety of Jenna and Tauri? The abduction of Dave Kane is met with deadly force and swift retribution.

But Jenna’s support system kicks into high gear: Shane Wolfe knows just what to do, and Dax Styles is brought in to assist (as Jo and Bobby are unavailable and Ty Carter is strangely incommunicado).

Knowing that there are murders to investigate, Rowley and Rio take the burden off Jenna’s shoulders; and the next generation begin to make their marks - Emily Wolfe as medical examiner and Rio’s twin sibs on research.

As more women's bodies are discovered, the evidence mounts. Is someone close to the team a stone-cold psychopath?

The wrap up to this case had me on the edge of my seat as one major character's life is in imminent danger and the team races to stop their latest psychopath.

Highly recommended. Could be read as a standalone, but 22 books into the series the reader would benefit greatly from a reading of the back catalog (not to mention both 'prequels'.

Title: A Song for the Dead
Author: D. K. Hood
Series: Detectives Alton and Kane #22
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Crime Thriller
Pub Date: May 21, 2024
My Rating: 4 Stars
Pages: 347

Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane live in Black Rock Falls with their newly adopted 5 year old son, Tauri and their dog Duke.
Although I did not read the earlier books in this series, I have learned that Jenna and David are both in ‘Witness Protection’ and have changed their identity both with a changed appearance with a new face as well as new names. Now it appears they may be living and work in what seems to be ‘Serial Killer Central’.

Dakota Slade is a twenty-something young woman who was living with her grandmother who has since pasted, so is now living alone. She works at the local General Store and has never missed a day of work and isn’t answers calls. Her boss at the general store calls the sheriff's office and asks if they would do a welfare check as Dakota lives alone. Sheriff Alton and Depute Kane, respond to his call.
When they arrive they can see through the window a woman sitting on the sofa watching television, which is very loud. Once they entry it is obvious that Dakota is dead.
Jenna notices 2 marks on the back of her neck like a stun gun would leave. However they determine she's been electrocuted probably with an amped up stun gun.
Dakota went to church every week, helped at local charities, and she was loved by those around her. Why would anyone want to harm her?

When another young woman is found dead with the same two burn marks, Jenna and Dave are concerned that they've got a serial killer preying on young single women who live alone. Why would anyone want to kill these women?

This #22 in this series; I have read several other D.K. Hood books and really enjoyed them and realized I read the Special Agent Beth Katz series and my first in this series was #21. A Song for the Dead. Needless to say, I got on the Alton and Kane train late but was pleased that I wasn’t all that lost by getting on board so late in this series.
Yes! I am very much looking forward to 'Kane and Alton’ Book #23

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.

In the labyrinth of crime fiction, it’s a rare delight to stumble upon a book that not only captivates with its plot but also resonates with the reader on a deeper level. “Eyes Tight Shut,” the 22nd installment in the Detectives Kane and Alton series by D.K. Hood, is one such gem.

Set against the backdrop of Black Rock Falls, a town that’s no stranger to darkness, the story opens with a chilling scene that sets the tone for the entire narrative. The lifeless body of Dakota Slade, a beloved community member known for her charity work, is found in her home, marking the beginning of a harrowing journey for Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy David Kane.

What follows is a masterful blend of suspense and meticulous police work, as the duo delves into the heart of a community cloaked in secrets. The plot thickens with the discovery of another victim, weaving a thread of urgency that pulls the reader through the pages.

Hood’s writing is sharp and evocative, painting a vivid picture of the setting and its inhabitants. The characters are well-crafted, with layers that are peeled back as the story progresses, revealing their complexities and driving the narrative forward. The relationship between Alton and Kane is particularly noteworthy, providing an emotional anchor amidst the swirling chaos of the investigation.

The pacing is relentless, with twists that are both surprising and satisfying. Hood has a knack for balancing the tension of the central mystery with moments of introspection, allowing the reader to catch their breath before plunging back into the fray.

“Eyes Tight Shut” is a testament to Hood’s ability to keep a long-running series feeling fresh and exciting. It’s a standalone triumph that will not only please long-time fans but also welcome newcomers with open arms. The book is a reminder of why we read thrillers: to be transported, challenged, and ultimately, to be entertained by a story well told.

In conclusion, “Eyes Tight Shut” is a must-read for any aficionado of the genre. With each turn of the page, Hood proves that even in a series’ 22nd book, there can still be new ground to uncover and new chills to experience.

Eyes Tight Shut" is a riveting addition to D.K Hood's Detectives Kane and Alton series, delivering a pulse-pounding thriller filled with suspense and unexpected twists.

The story plunges readers into a chilling mystery as Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane investigate the brutal murder of Dakota Slade. The tension escalates as they uncover a pattern of killings targeting women who live alone, each victim bearing the same telltale burn marks on their necks. Hood masterfully crafts a narrative that keeps readers guessing, with red herrings and revelations that heighten the suspense with every turn of the page.

What sets this book apart is its focus on character dynamics and emotional depth. Sheriff Jenna Alton's determination to catch the killer while grappling with personal conflicts adds layers of complexity to the story, making her a relatable and compelling protagonist. Deputy David Kane's unwavering support and investigative skills complement Jenna's character, creating a dynamic duo that readers root for throughout the book.

The pacing is relentless, drawing readers into a web of deceit and danger that culminates in a gripping finale. The ending leaves long-term fans thrilled and eager for the next installment, showcasing Hood's ability to keep the series fresh and engaging with each new release.

While "Eyes Tight Shut" earns a solid 4.5 stars for its gripping plot, well-developed characters, and thrilling conclusion, it's the promise of more excitement to come that leaves readers buzzing with anticipation for the next book in the series. D.K Hood delivers another must-read instalment that will keep fans on the edge of their seats until the very end.

Detectives Kane and Alton #22

Her heart races as she waits for her date to arrive. When the doorbell rings, her excitement quickly turns to fear when she takes in her date's menacing stare as he closes the door behind him. He's not here to find love, and there's no time to scream before her world goes black.... When Dakota Slade fails to turn up for work at the general store, Sheriff Jenna Alton and her Deputy David Kane visit her home in Black Rock Falls. TV still blaring, Dakota's lifeless body is draped across the battered old sofa, her dark hair hanging over her delicate face, her young life taken too soon. With a shuddering breath, Jenna notices two small scorch marks on the back of the victim's neck. Dakota had been electrocuted. Leaping into action, Jenna traces Dakota's last steps, but quickly hits a wall. Why would anyone want to harm her?

D.K. Hood never disappoints, and this series gets better with each new book. Dakota Slade never turned up for work. Dave and Jenna visit her home only to discover her lifeless body. Then another body turns up. Jenna and her Deputies will have to work fast to find out who is behind the murders.

As I've come to expect from this series, the book was filled with red herrings, twists, and mistrust. I could not read this book quickly enough. I was desperate to find out who was behind the murders. I don't know how the author does it, but she manages to pull you in and keep you reading until you have turned the last page. I don't know either where she pulls her ideas from, but I hope she keeps them coming. I love all the main characters and dread that anything sinister would happen to them. Now, I'm impatiently waiting on book 23.

Published 21st May

Gripping, shocking, thrilling, and hard to put down. Eyes Tight Shut might be the 22nd book in the Detectives Kane and Alton series, but it work nicely as a stand-alone book for me. I was instantly engrossed in the plot and enjoyed seeing some cameo from characters I enjoy from her Special Agent Beth Katz series!

When Dakota Slade fails to turn up to work, Sheriff Jenna Alton and her husband deputy David Kane find her body in her home. Jenna throws herself into solving the case. Unfortunately, another woman is found dead and in the same manner as Dakota. Using CCTV footage, she gets a glimpse of a man who was seen talking to both women. Her mouth drops open as she recognizes the man. Could someone close to her be a killer????

There is a lot of action, suspense, tension, and detective work in this book. Plus, there is a thrilling subplot that keeps the book moving and my heart beating at a fast pace. As I turned the pages, I could not help but wonder what was going to happen next! I tried to do my own super sleuthing while reading and was not able to solve the case!

Eyes Tight Shut kept me on my toes and wishing that I had read the previous books in the series. I thoroughly enjoy D.K. Hood's writing, characters, and plots. This book had a nice number of twists, turns, and a terrific reveal.

A Gripping and thrilling page turner!

Agent Carter on the hot seat: non-stop suspense😲

4.5🌟stars
Eyes Tight Shut was exciting and fast-paced, and I really liked the combination of two main plots. Deputy Dave Kane and his recently-adopted son Tauri face mortal danger early in the book in the one and a serial killer of single women with an unusual murder weapon is the focus of the other. The fact that FBI Agent Tyler Carter, a frequently-appearing good guy in this series, is a prime suspect in the murders had me baffled along with his colleagues. The evidence seems to quickly pile up against him and it goes against everything the Black Rock Falls police team knows about Carter.

I find it unsettling but realistic that, despite the ubiquitous violent crime in the area, there are always potential victims who don't relate the potential danger to their own situations until it's almost always too late!

Some of the technical parts of the murder investigation may have been a bit long-winded, even didactic, but I could see the relevance in today's IT-centric culture, where new capabilities like AI and video manipulation are more and more commonplace and make it difficult to distinguish truth from a carefully composed deception.

This is a gripping story with plenty of action and a group of law enforcement professionals with oodles of resources to "get their man." I can't stop reading this series!

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Oh my word my heart is just now back in its normal rhythm. I dearly love this series and all of the characters in it. This story about did me in.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and her husband Deputy David Kane are called to do a wellness check on a local woman. When they arrive, they find her dead on the sofa in front of the television as if she was watching TV. They realize she has been electrocuted, so you well can imagine the condition of the body. This one gave me goosebumps. When another young woman is found in the same condition, Alton and company realize that they are running short on time before it happens again. To make matters even worse when Jenna is looking through CCTV footage, she is horrified to realize that she knows the man who was the last person to see these women alive. She cannot believe that he would be capable of such an atrocity, but there he is in living color.

The dream team is a little stretched in this book as you will find out when you read it. Wowzer! All of the Kane and Alton books are fantastic, but this one really got under my skin. I had some doubts and fears for my favorite characters at times. It was pure adrenaline-laced with twists and turns around every corner/page and the fear/evil was so real that I could feel it emanating from the pages as cold shivers worked their way up my spine.

This is another winner in the Kane and Alton series. Whew now that I have finished it, I need a nap.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Omg this book had me hooked right from the start. I couldn't read it quick enough! Loved it.

When Dakota Slade fails to turn up to work at the general store, Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy David Kane visit her home in Black Rock Falls. TV still blaring, Dakota’s lifeless body is draped across the battered old sofa, her dark hair hanging over her delicate face, her young life taken too soon. With a shuddering breath, Jenna notices two small scorch marks on the back of the victim’s neck. Dakota has been electrocuted.

Leaping into action, Jenna traces Dakota’s last steps but quickly hits a wall. Dakota went to church every week, helped at local charities, and she was loved by those around her. Why would anyone want to harm her?

Then another young woman is found dead in her living room, the same two burn marks on her neck. Jenna’s heart shatters. Convinced a twisted killer is preying on women who live alone, she fears another innocent soul will be taken soon.

A breakthrough comes when Jenna uncovers rumors of a sleazy customer who visited both victims at work. Watching CCTV footage, her pulse pounds as she looks at the screen. The man in the film is someone close to her, someone she thought she could trust. Can Jenna take down the killer if it’s someone she loves? And will she catch him in time to stop another vulnerable young woman being murdered.

D.K.Hood delivers another heart-pounding enthralling instalment of the Kane and Alton series. That sees the pair investigate when local shop girl Dakota is found dead at home in front of her TV. With what appears to be scorch marks on the back of her neck.

But just as the investigation starts to get underway. The worst happens, and Jenna is left shell shocked, terrified and desperate for answers.

However, not many are forthcoming. But Wolfe is on hand to help and with Carter AWOL he suggests calling in another local FBI Agent Dax Styles. Which Jenna reluctantly does.

And as the three of them go off in search of answers. The rest of the team including FBI Agent Beth Katz investigate Dakota's murder. But they soon find she isn't their only victim and all evidence is starting to point towards the missing Carter.

Yet, none of them can quite believe an FBI Agent and their friend could be capable of murder.

But could he?

And with two storylines that will keep you on your toes. Danger, twists and a killer you will not see coming. This is another cracking addition to the series, and I can't wait to see where this series goes next. Especially after that little announcement at the end. 😉

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of Eyes Tight Shut. 😊

This is the Author's 22nd book featuring Sherriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane and whist it
can be read as a standalone I would recommend reading a least 1 or 2 of the latest books to set
the characters in place .

When the Sherriff is asked to make a welfare check on a young woman the last thing she expects is
to find her murdered , electrocuted to death ......... who would want to harm this well loved young woman .?
Soon the investigation hits a dead end , no further clues have come to life , that is until another young woman is found dead , killed the same way - just what is going on ? do they have a serial killer on the loose ? Someone is preying on women who live alone - who will be next on his list ?
When Jenna reviews CCTV footage she gets a shock , surely the person on the screen cannot be involved ?

It will take all Jenna and David's skill to track down the killer before he strikes again because she herself might just be in his sights .
These books are character driven , fast paced and full of twists and turns before the killer can be found - an entertaining read
I look forward to reading the next in the series
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

(4.5)Black Rock Falls is enough to raise the hair on the back of your neck if your are an avid reader of Detectives Kane and Alton series. If you are not, you should treat yourself you have 22 books to enjoy. Eyes Tight Shut had 2 plots running at the same time. Either one one would be a great book, but have both running simultaneously shows the stress and reality of police life. Add in the emotion, the sense of family and its a winner. Eyes Tight Shut has single women being murdered and it appears to be one of their own. When the team is discussing how that could be, and they would have known etc... boy did my mind think of Detective Beth Katz series. Speaking of which Styles and Beth have a part in Eyes Tight Shut. The second plot involves Dave Kane, and boy was that an emotional ride. D.K. Hood provides a police procedural with feels and a HEA and a few twists and surprises along the way. Thank you for Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #EyesTIghtShut #DetectivesKaneandAlton #D.K.Hood #Bookouture #NetGalley

I know I might say this every time, but this might be my favorite yet. There are two story lines and I was invested equally in both. They are both very personal to the team. Down a few members of the team for these cases and the stakes are upped. Women are disappearing and then found dead and the culprit looks like Carter. And he is MIA. And then Kane goes missing and his son is taken. I wasn’t sure which one I was more worried for, but I was on the edge of my seat reading.

The tension and pace are off the charts from the start. The growth of the characters, the relationship amongst the team members, and the story lines keep me coming back. You would think with book 22, the series could be stale, but I did not want to put this one down. I wasn’t able to figure out who was murdering the women even when there weren’t many suspects. I finally just sat back and read and hoped things worked out how I hoped.

And that bombshell at the end. I can’t wait to see how that changes things up going forward. If you like police procedurals and are not reading this series, you need to pick them up.

I cannot believe that this is the twenty second book in the series featuring Detective Jenna Alton and David Kane and they are based in Blackwater Falls. David is called out to check on the home of a young woman who has failed to turn up for work. He finds her lifeless body on her sofa and it appears that she has been electrocuted. Jenna is desperate to find the killer especially when another body of a young woman is found and she also has been electrocuted. When CCTV footage is examined Jenna and her team are horrified to see that the man in the footage closely resembles one of their colleagues. But surely it cannot be him but they have to treat him as a suspect. At the same time Jenna is devastated when David and their son Tauri are kidnapped. Will she see Dave and Tauri again. This was a gripping and tense read, with two storylines going on. So many twists and turns and an unexpected ending that will change their lives, I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Jenna is called out to a murder scene. Dakota Slade did not turn up for work, and the Sheriff was alerted. She was electrocuted with a modified stun gun.
Then an identical murder occurs, and it is found that the same man was seen talking to both women. The description of the man who also appears on CCTV appears to be a close friend of Jenna and Kane's.

In the midst of the investigation, Kane goes out for a ride on his Harley and disappears.

There is never a dull moment in the Kane and Alton series!!
Fast paced and action packed, and a dedicated and close team piece together the puzzle and solve the cases.
Interspersed with their personal worries, the books are ultra interesting and make the characters more real.

I recommend this book, and indeed the whole series to those who like a decent police procedural.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read the 22nd book in the series.

What an edge of your seat rollercoaster ride!

While we return to Black Rock falls we are quickly swept into danger and fall out from Kane having done a stint undercover. Could there be a mole putting him and his family at risk?

Meanwhile, the body count is adding up and the main suspect is FBI agent Carter. But they could swear he isnt totally capable of this crime... or is he?

Book 22 is a welcomed visit back to black rock falls and the characters we love. It is filled with so much suspense that keeps you guessing and holding on to the edge of your seat.

Characters are easy to connect with, pace of book is so easy to just fly thru it cause you want to know more, the imagery created by the author is so clear.

I highly recommend not only this book but the whole Alton/Kane series. You wont be able to put them down.

Thank you NetGalley, D.K Hood and the publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review.

I cant wait for the next book already.
