Disrupting what should have been a joyous family celebration, Graye McAdams celebrates his mother’s birthday by shooting his best friend Tate Butler. Killing his wife Angelette had been next on his list, but fate had other plans for Angelette McAdams, a desperate young woman searching for her own worth and value. Graye’s mother, Miss Jen Pearl has lived Angelette’s desperation, having walked in the girl’s shoes with Graye’s father, Otis McAdams. Miss Jen Pearl has answers learned from her own mistakes and as she reflects on what she didn’t do, she’s able to guide Angelette in a better direction. But intent on retribution for Angelette’s sins, Graye has plans of his own for his adoring wife, ignoring his own transgressions in the process.

Graye

Graye was a troubled person, I really would like to know where the idea for this book came from, it was a very different read, it kept me wanting to know what was going to happen, why things were happening. Very good read.

Wow

This book was a story of hurt, mental illness, family and how women put up with things just to have someone in their lives. They missed what they could have had because they settled for whatever reason. I couldn't believe it ended the way it did but one thing good came out of it, the relationship between Angelette and Jen Pearl.

This book haunts me. There are so many layers to each character and it makes the story of Graye McAdams rich like expensive chocolate.
Two things drew me to this books, one, Deborah Mello is a wordsmith! And the book opens at a birthday party where Graye shoots his best and only friend.

Mello weaves a story that tugs at every emotion. Kudos to Deborah for a great read.
