When the death of a classmate disrupts enrollment into the High Council witches coven, the Fates must devise new ways to decide who to let in. Deadly skills trials, secret alliances, and talented new students make the odds of Mae Kingsley finding her paranormal partner very slim.
But without the coven, her family’s deepest secrets will never be revealed. Mysterious codes, truth serums, and late-night romances. Being a witch is much more than casting simple spells.
There’s only one way to enter. Pass the tests. Be admitted to the High Council. No one can do it alone. Mae must decide who to trust and who to fear before she loses her chance at becoming a witch forever.
Predetermined Bonds: (The High Council Witch Academy Book 2)
Predetermined Bonds: (The High Council Witch Academy Book 2) ~ This second entry really raises the stakes. The academy initiation might be over, but survival is far from guaranteed. The focus on predetermined magical bonds brings tension between what the heart wants and what the magic dictates. Julie Catherine nails the emotional push-pull: do you follow destiny, or do you risk it all for choice? The betrayals and shifting alliances had me flipping pages late into the night. I especially loved how the Council’s secrets start creeping into the students’ lives, showing this world is much bigger — and darker — than just the academy walls.
Wow! These books get better and better. As Mae arrives at the secret address to begin enrollment into the High Council, she is nervous and excited. But the fates have other plans. Now Mae is in a fight to the death to secure her position in the High Council. Will she survive?
This book was a nonstop roller coaster ride of emotions. This action packed adventure will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. There are plenty of thrills acne chills to draw readers in. With a wonderful but unexpected ending, I can’t wait to read what is next for Mae.
Enjoyable series that takes young adults through challenges and trials both mundane and paranormal to weed out those not strong enough to be High Council. Really enjoying the series as the characters show who they are and what type of person they are becoming. Danger and challenge , friendship and enemies, these books have some of all of it. Only gave three stars to begin because I’m hoping for more growth in the characters. Having a bit of a hard time deciding if I like them and who I’m rooting for. If they can develop more like I’m hoping and show more strength and decisiveness, I would love to add stars.
This is the first time I have read anything by this author. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was very intriguing and unique. It caught my attention quickly and it was so easy to read that I was finished before I realized it. I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I feel as if I have been holding my breath, swimming as fast and hard as possible underwater. I finally reached the end and was able to come up, gasping for air! My goodness, what a book! It’s past 4:00AM and I can finally sleep. Do not start this book late in the day, because you won’t be able to stop reading.
This was an excellent follow up to the first novel in the series, gaining more speed and information in each chapter! The more you read it, the more you want to read it and when you ft you the end, don't even think about putting it down! Predetermined Bonds here a giant golf star from me!
The extra characters were too generic, and I had a hard time telling them apart. The “fight” scenes were drawn out and I skimmed a but. But overall it was enjoyable.
