Permits, arcane power, and a sharp sword – just the tools you’ll need to fix up a magical mansion!
Ever since the System invaded Earth, I had dreamt of becoming a powerful wizard. Sure, the manor I picked as my lair was a rundown, haunted dump, and a crazy cult had tried to murder me, but it all worked out in the end. I even picked up a few house guests–a sexy ghost, a Drow blacksmith, and a tricksy Arachne scholar
We are settling into our new normal—home repairs, researching the dark past of my hometown, and delving into frigid dungeons—when we discover a thief draining mana from my lair. They’re threatening everything I built.
Beyond defeating the thief, paying my mortgage, and expanding my lair, I’ll have to deal with a group of wannabe heroes trying to take over the town. It’ll take every bit of magic I have, and a bit of insane courage, to defeat these perils and protect my new home.
If I’m lucky, I’ll still be in one piece to enjoy date night once this is over!
I enjoy the concept of a wizard building his lair but the lair is seeming like less and less that it's his. His hearths mana was stolen easy peasy by some pop-up dimensional interloper. He has a graveyard that he can't know about. And at every turn something new is trying to kill him in his own home. Hardly seems like it's HIS lair.
Not to mention the towns peragative to take what's his at any given moment (or interfere through permits, etc.). Threatened from within and without, how is this his place of power and a stronghold?
Some of the ending felt forced. Careless decisions that seem odd or out of character. All done in order to keep the tension where the author wants it at any given moment.
All that said, I enjoyed most of the last battle. The boons and banes are nice. The alchemy plot was a nice addition. The princess character might make a good addition. She was a hoot on the wolf zombie. Love the winter's garden.
I would like to see more independence and inability to be messed with through indirect means.
Having defeated the members of the Fraternity DIK who became a cult determined to release the demon Baphomet. Brent and his harem hope for some peace to train and increase their skills, repair the manor and grow his power as a Hearthomancer. However someone is taping and stealing mana from the manor and the land. The land has great concentrations of different types of mana, not just earth, fire, water, air, but but exotic mana like madness, and darkness. However Brent discovers that someone has been siphoning mana from his property. When they go to investigate they get a quest to rescue the Ice Princess. Also all around town there is a new group of adventurers who wear white cloaks and promise that they will be heroes for the world. They are searching for something that they feel will bring them great power. Can Brent with his sexy harem of his familiar Lorelei, Ayara the drow magical blacksmith, and Ishikana the arachnid scholar rescue the Ice princess, stop the mana leak and stop the adventurers determined to bring a great upheaval to the world
I loved book 1 im 2 1/2 hours in and im not a fan i feel like i want to skip through till they save the princess i feel like its drawn out just to make the book longer BOO.... It was unnecessary and boring 😴 I enjoyed the house restoration but that seems to have been put in the background but I still have 8 hours to go but the whole wannabe hero angle is cringe the valley girl trying to recruit him was creepy 😬 her voice was horrible like nails on a valley girl chalk board ewww this book could have been shorter it was drawn out and i sadly 😥 have lost interest in this series i did finish the book but the fixing of the house and more harem members stopped which sucks it became about some evil 😈 on the land and a weirdo villain or group to get ride of for every book and all the fun interesting things I loved about the book stopped
A new companion joins the adventurers, more quests completed, and more yet await. Cover art is, like the first one, designed to look like a well-worn pulp novel. That said, the blacksmith wears an apron, goggles, and gloves when she works, and she's purple; while the portrait is striking, it's misleading and ultimately a disappointment. Story is engaging. Above average editing. In for book 3!
An interesting read, goes in unexpected directions
The MC finds that his lair is located in a town full of secrets thats build on misery mana. Freaky. A new nemesis stands against them, but they also complete some quests gaining new allies. Though rather macabre the story goes in unexpected offshoots. I will wait for the next installment.
Brent and his growing harem face a serious challenge from the White Cloaks and their leader. The mysterious Book is the prize, connected with the towns dark past. The book is fast paced filled with action, adventure, and spice! I am looking forward to the next installment!
Thus series is quickly becoming one of my favorite new series!!! Non stop action from the first page this family has faced a lot and just keeps on keeping on!!!!
Our MC really just wants to do a home restoration, but things keep coming up. A new dungeon in his yard, a psychotic college student, dinner with his parents. Another great story and really enjoying the set up. Looking forward to more
world ending shenanigans happening as the town once again loses its mind. lol. Dove into the lore more and learned a bit more about the house. Looking forward to book 3.
This has been an intriguing series through the first two books. The only negative has been how predictable the antagonists have been, thirsting for power like a Bond villain. It's still 5 star work, but a more sophisticated antagonist would be welcome.
