I had to help the little girl whose need for love is palpable. And her uncle Silas, who’s stepped up to dad? His sultry, pin-me-in-place eyes promised to fulfill all my dreams.

That’s where I come in.

This was a steamy, angsty single Dad sports romance. The characters were complex and well developed. The story had all the feels. Highly recommend!

Paloma Concord has loved being a nanny to her charges for the past eighteen years, but having to leave them as they became young adults broke her heart. She decided to take a leave from her profession and take care of her ailing mother. Unfortunately the medical bills for her mother's care required her to go back to work.

Silas Whittaker is the head hockey coach of Houston's expansion team. He gets an unexpected call telling him his younger sister had succumbed to covid and left behind an eight year old daughter and asking him to be her legal guardian. Young Beatrix is angry and in need of love. After he brings her across the country to Texas, he hires Paloma as her live-in nanny.

Paloma and Silas are attracted to each other, but their contract prohibits any personal relationship. Silas talks to her employment company and fixed the dating issue. They eventually catch serious feelings for each other and get their HEA.

In an instant, everything you know changes and adjustments need to happen to continue. For Silas, it was a phone call. For Paloma, it was a dwindling bank account. But everything happens for a reason.

Paloma thought her time as a nanny was over after her final charge graduated High School. Unfortunately, her mom’s dwindling health has become a financial burden, and the thought of selling her beloved home just was not the answer.

Silas is the NHL’s newest expansion team coach and just received the news that he has a niece. So he needs help, he travels, and his new charge hates him.

I liked the story's angle that family comes first, and Silas will do what is necessary to make his niece comfortable. Enter Paloma. She works wonders to befriend Beatrix and ease Silas’s mind. The story is layered with challenges, struggles, and successes, but in the ending, finding that balance, so it all works.

This is the first book in a new series, and I am excited to read what comes next.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Recently, I’ve read hockey romances and nanny romances, but this talented wordsmith brings them both together in a story of three lost souls, finding in each other something they never realized they needed but knew they couldn’t live without.

NFL coach, Silas Whittaker, becomes an instant father in the space of one phone call. His estranged sister has died and made Silas the guardian of his eight-year-old niece, Beatrix. Last Silas knew, his sister was living a carefree, irresponsible life, and he didn’t even know she had a child. He has no idea what he's getting into when he goes to pick up Beatrix, but he certainly didn’t expect an angry, volatile child he has no idea how to reach.

Paloma Concord has been a nanny all of her adult life. Her charges are now grown and Paloma is adrift. She knows she'll need to find another job if she's going to continue to pay for her mother's room and services at the memory care facility. But she's not sure she's ready to be a nanny again, only to have her heart broken when another child grows up and leaves her life.

This truly gifted storyteller always delivers a wonderful, heartfelt read, but, oh my heart! She's outdone herself with this one. Beatrix broke my heart, I couldn’t help but empathize with Silas, and Paloma's fears felt every bit as real as my own. I was completely invested in this one early on, and this story made my heart feel like it was floating on air. Sure, there is some angst, but it’s the authentic kind that exposes the characters vulnerabilities and only serves to endear them more to the reader.

Charming and humorous but poignant and touching, I think this may be Padgett’s best work to date. And that's really remarkable, because I thought no one would ever displace Camden Grace (“Deep in the Heart”) and his place in my heart. This story comes so close, it's difficult to see a clear winner. Exquisite, profound and masterfully written, this will be one of your very top romance reads this year, so run to the 1-Click and start reading it today!

Silas Whittaker was just settling into his coaching career when tragedy struck and dropped a niece he didn’t even know about on him. He had to find a nanny quickly for his uncontrollable! Grief and rage filled niece.

Enter Paloma, who swore she’d never nanny again after her last charge left for college. But family circumstances and her finances forced her back into her role as a caretaker for someone else’s kids.

Beatrix (Trixie or Trix) was full of rage upon the death of her mother and moving across the country to live with an uncle she never knew she had or met.

Paloma, Loma as her former charges and Trixie come to call her is truly the glue that heals the Whittaker family. Uncle Silas and Trixie both come to love her, while she has already fallen for both.

I loved the immediate chemistry between Silas and Paloma, but also Paloma’s immediate comforting and reasoning with the inconsolable Trixie.

This story is full of good character development and lots of angst, but it definitely has a happy ending.

A five AM phone call from an unknown number brought back the horrors of his childhood and changed his life. Silas is a retired NHL player and the head coach of the new expansion hockey team in Houston, TX. The call is from a hospital in Massachusetts informing him that his baby sister is dead and that she named him guardian to her 8 year old daughter. A daughter he didn’t even know she had. The last time he’d seen his sister, Avalon, she was following in their mother’s footsteps of drugs, booze, and men!
But when he arrives in MA he discovers that his sister had apparently turned her life around and become a nurse, and a wonderful mom to his niece Beatrix. But this young girl is angry at the world, and especially him since he is taking her away from the only life she’s ever known.
Back in Houston it becomes apparent that Silas needs help so he hires Paloma Concord to be a nanny for Beatrix.
A great story about learning to love and trust!

I absolutely loved this book. It was about Silas, a hockey coach, whose estranged sister died and left him custody of her daughter, Beatrix. He wasn't sure he had the time or even wanted to take care of her, but for the child's sake her took her and hired a nanny to help him get through this. Paloma, was a nanny who needed money to take care of her ailing mother and had nannied in the past for two boys who she missed so much. Silas and Paloma had an immediate attraction to each other but Paloma kept pushing him away because she wanted to remain professional in her nanny job. This book was full of emotions. It contained to tragedies and I really felt sorry for some of the characters. It contained angst, steam, and hope and was a wonderful read. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I received a review copy of this book from the author and am leaving a voluntary honest review.

Oh boy, I don’t know if there has ever been a more perfect book for me! Hockey is probably my biggest passion, along with reading. So when I saw one of my favourite authors was creating a hockey romance series I was thrilled!

Silas had a hard childhood, separated from his immediate family as an adult, and coaching in the NHL. Everything changes with one phone call. Suddenly he is caring for his estranged sisters daughter, Beatrix. Silas has no experience caring for kids and feels like he failed his sister when he was younger, so he needs help! Enter Paloma, a caring, smart nanny, who feels deeply for her charges and struggles with the inevitable end to her relationships with kids.

As Paloma helps Silas settle into caring for 8 year old, firecracker, Beatrix (Trixie) an undeniable chemistry emerges between the two adults. But an employment contract and fight for permanent adoption of Trixie halts any hope of romance.

Can love develop when two people are pushed together under unusual circumstances? Can a family develop out of more than blood?

I finished this book in one sitting and I’d be remiss not to mention a few of my favourite things. I was terrified to read a book about hockey as I am such a fan that I worried it may not be as accurate as I like. Silas is a Canadian coaching a new Huston expansion team. Why do I love this? It’s relevant! Huston is wanting a team so it is believable, and let’s be honest hockey is Canada’s sport so having a Canadian character and references was amazing.

There are many points where the tears were real for me as I was reading. But the moment Beatrix asks Silas to call her Trixie broke me. I cannot wait for the next book in this series! I was offered an ARC of this book for an honest review and what an amazing surprise it was.

Deeply moving story of love and family

Silas needs a nanny when he finds himself in over his head with his grieving niece. Paloma fears getting attached to her charges again so she doesn't want to work as a nanny, but the financial burden of caring for her mother gives her little choice. Watching her first interaction with Beatrix as inspiring. I really liked that the storyline took the role of nanny seriously, making Paloma a professional who really understands how to reach children and works to take care of the whole child.

The romance was by necessity a slow-burn, as both of them had to put Beatrix's needs first, but when Silas finally decided to do something, I thought his approach was brilliant. There were complications along the way, both on her side and his, and I loved how the author worked it all out in the end.

This was a beautifully written romance with all the emotional highs and lows and a very satisfying HEA. The epilogue set up the characters for the next installment in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

A hockey romance with a nanny, and a recently orphaned niece and jaded uncle. I can’t imagine the struggles of becoming a nanny when there’s so much loss and so much unresolved feelings of anger and grief. Beatrix is only eight and now moved across the country to her uncle’s who is clueless about kids! He doesn’t even know what families do and hires a well qualified nanny. Slowly they each learn to open up to one another and over time become functional. *I was given a copy and am voluntarily giving my honest review.

"Nanny" romances aren't usually my thing, but because I've read other stories by this author and liked them I figured I'd give it a try. I liked it! The story is not totally focused on the "romance" and their attraction for each other. There is also the feelings she has after the kids she's taken care of grow up and don't need her anymore. His feelings from what he suffered during his childhood and relationship with his sister. And then there is poor little Beatrix who's whole world has changed and sent to an Uncle she never met. All woven together with the "romance" to make an engaging story line. I received and ARC for a voluntary review.

Paloma has been a nanny to two boys since they where little and now they are off to college. Her mom is very sick and she needs a job. Silas needs a nanny and Pronto. I loved reading this and can see where you would get very attached to the children like they where your own. Emotional, soul searching , sad , and a HEA.

I really enjoyed Silas and Paloma's story. I could really see this happening, it is very realistic. You definitely could feel the emotions of the characters. Such a great love story. I loved Trixie what a wonderful, witty little girl. I'm so excited to read Cormac's story. I would definitely recommend this book.

This was a good book that intertwined several tropes. A single dad, nanny, and sport romance all in one. The spice was good, but I also really enjoyed the becoming a single dad aspect also, the whole story with Trixie just touched my heart for sure.

Avalon Whittaker dies from COVID and wills her daughter to her brother Silas. Avalon and Silas have not been in contact with each other since Avalon was a party girl. There was no father listed on the birth certificate. Silas is very unsure of raising a child, but hires a nanny, Paloma. Silas is a coach of an NHL hockey team. This novel had me from the beginning. I really enjoyed the story throughout.

While the outline of this story seemed like it would be perfect for my reading taste, the execution did not do it for me. The story seemed stilted, completely lacking in any emotion. I did not see or feel the coach and the nanny’s connection or longing.

I fell in love with all the characters in Coaching the Nanny from the moment I opened the book. Coaching the Nanny is the first book in the Wildcatters Hockey Series and oh what a delightful little read.

Coaching the Nanny is a romantic love story but it has more than one kind of love. The first and foremost love is the love between a nanny and the little ones that she is taking care of.

Paloma Concord is a professional nanny. She has been taking care of children for a very long time. Paloma was the nanny to two very charming boys since they were very small but after they grew up and started their own lives, Paloma was no longer needed. But the boys loved Paloma very much and stayed in touch with her calling her on occasion for advice among other things. I think it was just an excuse to call her.

Paloma had no plans of becoming a nanny again until her mother became sick and she had to sell her house to pay for the care her mother needed. Left with no choice Paloma steps back into the role of a nanny as if she had never left it.

She doesn’t have to wait long for a position to open up. Paloma gets a job taking care of Beatrix Whittaker. Beatrix is a little hard to deal with in the beginning as she is mad at the world because her mom died and left her all alone.

Beatrix is placed into the care of her uncle Silas Whittaker, a hockey coach. When Silas received the call telling him that his sister had passed away and left him custody of her daughter it was a shocking surprise for Silas as he never knew he had a niece. But he was not alone in this matter as Beatrix never knew she had an uncle either.

I don’t usually read romance or sports books as I am not into romance much but you know after giving it some thought you know I guess we are all into romance more than we think, well, that is if we ourselves just happens to be in love with someone. Right? What do you think?

But you know even though I may not be into romance books very much I can definitely read anything Alexa Padgett writes. Alexa writes with such a flair that the story just jumps off the page and right into your head and heart making you feel as if you know all the characters plus their hearts desire.

Once you pick up one of her books you know that you are going to have set aside a few hours because you are going to be lost between its pages for the duration. I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the Wildcatters Hockey Series to see what Alexa has waiting for us there.

If you are into romance books or even if you are not I would still like to suggest that you give Coaching the Nanny a try as I do believe that you will fall in love. Grab your copy of Coaching the Nanny for a charming and delightful read!

Silas and Paloma’s story is a well written, charming boss and nanny romance. Both have had painful losses and disappointments in their lives and have done their best to try and guard their hearts. It takes one grieving and rather antagonistic young eight year old girl to change both of their lives and bring love back into them.

Silas is shocked to get a phone call that his estranged sister has died and that she left behind a young daughter for him to raise. He is used to being alone, devoting his life to his job as head coach to a professional hockey team. The job entails a great deal of traveling and he can’t take a child on the road, right? After just a few days with his grieving, angry and disruptive niece, Silas is more than ready to hire a nanny. Despite her past heartbreak and misgivings about returning to the job of being a nanny, Paloma must do so in order to support her ill mother. When she meets young Beatrix and Silas, Paloma is aware of two things immediately. She knows she can help the young girl adjust and that she already has stolen a bit of her heart. Unfortunately, she is also aware of an unexpected attraction to the girl’s very handsome uncle and she is not sure how to handle that. She is in no position to turn down the job, however, and reminds herself that she and Silas both signed contracts not to get involved with each other romantically or otherwise. Paloma’s kind, compassionate and generous nature help her to bring uncle and niece together to build a loving rapport. Of course, that signed contract is no real deterrent to mutual desire or to deeper feelings that unexpectedly grow between them.

It was easy to love Paloma, Silas and young Beatrix. They are all very fascinating and intriguing characters and the reader can’t help wanting to know their story. I thoroughly enjoyed this captivating book. I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

What happens when your sister, whom you haven’t seen in over 10 years passes away and leaves you her daughter to raise? When you are a professional hockey coach who lives alone, has no idea how to raise a child and distrusts his sibling because of the unhealthy lifestyle she has led? You do the common-sense thing—you inquire of teammates where to find a qualified nanny. BUT…there are Nanny’s and there are Nanny’s—and Paloma is a woman who gives her heart and dedication to her charges. Her last position raised two young men from childhood through high school and remained a very key part of their lives. The reader feels the dedication these boys have to her, and when it was time for her to leave them as they entered the next phase of their life, it broke her heart. Unfortunately, Paloma has a sick mother to support in a nursing facility and she knows she has to find another position quickly.

This newest story from Alexa Padgett brings together the desire for family from three different character perspectives. In the telling of the story, we feel the pain of loss and how these characters come together to overcome the pain—one from maternal death, one from a previous betrayal where assumptions were invalid, and the third from the loss of security and family. It’s a rebranding of hope where insecurity and trust need to be established to ensure the pain of new loss won’t cause a different type of pain.

I gave this book 5 stars because Ms. Padgett writes a strong story with endearing characters. Yes the “nanny story” has been written before, however the quirks and turns this story took with Paloma’s previous family, Silas’ issues with his family and the yearning he has to set it right well earned this rating.

This is book one in The Practically Perfect Nannies Series and it is Paloma and All as Story and omg it is definitely a must read and a great start to a new series. Paloma has just bought her first home after being a live in nanny but now that Hastings who is like a son to her has graduated Paloma is no longer needed which will give her more time to look after her mother who is suffering from Alzheimer's but when her mother takes a turn for the worse and has to go in a cafe home Paloma not only needs to get a job as a live in nanny again but also sell her home to pay for her mother's care. Silas who is a NHL hockey coach received a call to say that his sister who he has had no contact with because of her choices had died and listed Silas as her next of kin to her daughter Beatrix who is eight year's old and Silas had no knowledge that he had a niece so being shocked is a understatement and with his family history and not a good one he stayed away from any relationships and just kept working so not only does Silas not know how to relate to a eight year old girl but he realised that he will have to get a life in nanny. When Silas and Paloma meet there attraction is instantly and strong but they have all been through so much in there lives so going forward they will need to show a United front not give in the chemistry that is between them. Omg how much heartache can you go through in such a short time well this is what happened to them and I felt like I was there going through it all with them. This book takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions right from the first page and had me in tears but still I couldn't put it down and had to keep turning the pages to see what the outcome would be for them all. I definitely recommend you read this book and you will not be disappointed and the depth of this story is what makes it a real page turner and so addictive and I can't wait to read more book's in this series. Alexa Padgett is an amazing author and writer and she certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention and on the edge of their seats and her book's are definitely worth reading.

All it took was one telephone call to change all their lives. Discovering that his sister has passed away, leaving him as the legal guardian of a niece he never knew about, comes as a shock to Silas Whittaker. Meeting Beatrix for the first time totally upends Silas as he has to deal with her anger and resentment, not to mention her temper tantrums when he takes her from the one place she has called home. The only solution is Practically Perfect Nannies, who may be able to assist him in coping with the ball of fury that is his new charge. Paloma Concord's dreams all came crashing down with her mother's diagnosis and the need for a special care facility, thereby draining her finances and forcing her to take up the only other option available to her as a nanny to young Beatrix. Meeting the distraught eight-year-old, Paloma finds herself being drawn into the lives of the little girl and her uncle, thereby endangering her own heart. As the small nucleus starts to build and grow, feelings are aroused and Paloma realizes that she is in danger of losing her heart all over again. Fortunately, this well-written and emotional novel does come to a good conclusion with more than one victory being won. I received a copy of this engrossing romance as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

This was a heartwarming story about three people who are lonely and have all lost the only family they ever had. Silas is the hockey coach whose estranged sister has died, Beatrix is his now 8 year old orphaned niece of his estranged sister who has died. and Paloma has a sick mother who lives at assisted living facility.

When Silas needs a nanny because he is an instant dad to his niece, Paloma needs the job to help pay for her moms medical care, the three find something really special in each other and form their own type of family. It was a really awesome story and I fell in love with the characters in this story.

They have some challenges along to way from Paloma's and Silas forbidden type of relationship to Bea's pain at losing her beloved mother and Silas losing his sister and his guilt at being estranged from her. I love how the characters fall in love and become a family.

This was a fun read. Silas becomes guardian of a young niece he didn't know existed. His solution? A full time nanny, wherein he hires Paloma. His precocious niece is wise beyond her years and is a strong character in this book.
Coaching the Nanny is a steamy novel. The book has several open door bedroom scenes; however these encounters occurred in the second half of the book so timewise, after several months had passed. (I personally am not a great fan of characters jumping into bed immediately with no real connection other than a bed. I appreciated the author's timeframe for the characters to get to know each other before intimacy.)
This novel is well-written and the plot believable. I loved the characters, especially the niece Beatrix. As I read the book and got to "know" Silas, Paloma and Beatrix, I really wanted them to find their HEA ending. The author wrapped up this story quite well and left me with a big smile.

This is the first of a new series about the hockey expansion team, the Houston Wildcatters, and the nannies provided by Practically Perfect Nannies with offices at least in NYC and Houston. This book tells about three less than perfect people, all with hearts of gold, who desperately need a family but have legit reasons not to accept. First Paloma coaches the eight-year-old orphan Beatrix into going to school and giving her Uncle Silas a break from her tantrums. She did this in spite of never wanting to fall in love with another charge. Then the nanny coaches the youngest coach in the NHL how to permanently bond with his niece when he fears he will fail her as he failed her mom when they were growing up, leaving the 'party girl' to the foster care system. And then finally Trixie's 'Dadilas' coaches the Nanny to be assured neither he nor her charges will ever leave her. Lots of heartwarming tears mean rating lots of stars. Highly Recommended!

This was a sweet book. It brings three people who need each other together even though they don't realize how much they need each other.
Silas is a hockey coach who had a horrible childhood that he couldnt wait to leave behind. Silas did not think of his family until he found out his sister died and left him the guardian to her daughter. Silas only knew his younger sister not the adult sister.
Beatrix, the young girl who lost her mom and now needs to go to a new city with a person she doesn't know.
Paloma, the nanny, who gave her heart to her charges and breaks a little when they leave. She didn't want to be a nanny again, her heart can't handle it, but she needs to take care of her sick mom.
These three slowly become a family. They each bring something to story.
This is a wonderful start to the series.

Coaching the Nanny is part of a multi-author series about the Practically Perfect Nannies agency, yet it is also the first book in Alexa's new series about the Wildcatters Hockey Team. Silas, their coach and Paloma, the nanny, both need each other: He because he unexpectately has custody of his niece and she because she needs the income for her mom's care. But out of that need and lots of instand attraction, develops love. Their story is at once heart-wrenching and heart-warming and not at all just a sweet romance. There are quite a number of heavy topics in this book but the very deserved HEA makes the struggle well worth it. Not just an entertaining read but also a thought-provoking one. It'll go on my keeper shelf and I look forward to the next one in the series.
I was fortunate to get and copy of this book through Hidden Gems and am voluntarily and honestly leaving this review.

Silas isa the Hocky coach for Houstons expansion team. One night his phone rings and he gets news that will change his life. His sister has died of Covid and has left behind her daughter. Silas is the only next of kin listed to take the little girl in. He flies out and brings Beatrix home to Houston. The girl is distraught and angry. Silas must get back to work so he hires a Nanny. Paloma swore after her last charges grew up and she wasnt need anymore she would never nanny again. The pain was too hard losing the boys, she felt the loss as if losing her own children. She gets the call from the agency about a tough case and she agrees to meet the little girl. Its love at first site for Beatrix but possibly for Silas as well.
Amazing characters and wonderful story.
