Geraldine Taylor quite delightfully retells the story of Cinderella with complementary illustrations by Marina Le Ray.
It is the classic fairy tale in which Cinderella can't go to the ball because she has no fine clothes. Her stepmother and stepsisters take great delight in the fact that she cannot go and she is confined to the house to undertake cleaning duties.
Fortunately a fairy godmother arrives and transforms Cinderella into a beautiful young lady and she goes to the ball. Once there the prince is smitten by her and dances with her. But, as we all know, at midnight Cinders has to leave and in dashing off she loses one of her shoes.
The prince is sad, for he had fallen in love with Cinderella and he vows to find the lady whose shoe it is and then marry her. When he eventually visits Cinders' house the stepsisters try to claim the shoe as being theirs but it doesn't fit either of them - much to their chagrin.
However, it does fit Cinderella and she answers 'Yes' to the prince's marriage proposal and they live happily ever after.
Once again Ladybird provide a series of questions to engage the children and give them a better understanding of the tale.
