My father is always trying to improve me - from the books of poetry and plays that he sent me at university, to this book of daily Bible readings that he thought would follow on well from my previous multi-year challenge to read the whole of the Bible. Generally, these have all been varying levels of successes, but this time it was a dud I'm afraid. Wheeldon's attempts to expand each verse felt leaden and obvious - as such I didn't feel I was hearing anybody's heart, just training my abilities to stick at something every day no matter how much I wasn't enjoying it, and to spot mistakes that shouldn't have made it through. So I stopped.
