Meanwhile, local villagers keep disappearing, their unknown fate possibly connected to the deception that ensnared Iona. She has no choice except to join forces with the aggravating Zingari sword dancer, Shay Hawksmoor, who seeks to uncover the culprits behind the vanishings.

Wow! What a story! When Iona Abernethy volunteers to trial a new exercise machine to aid her recovery from an injury, she has no idea what she is letting herself in for. Transported to an alternative reality, she finds herself living in a mediaeval world, which is not all bad. I must admit a world without cars, litter, or the internet does have its attractions! This beautifully written novel is an incredible tale, and I am in awe of the author’s imagination. Fantasy is not one of my favourite genres, but this book drew me in from the very first page and held my attention until the end. A very enjoyable read. Recommended.

Fantastic Fantasy Read - Recovering from a horrific accident, Iona buys an exercise trike to aid in her physical therapy. However there is something odd about it. From the first time she rides it she is transported to a beautiful medieval world. Is it some kind of virtual reality? As she rides the trike more and more, the more she travels this awesome world. Nobody can see her until one day she encounters someone who can. Someone who forces who off the trike, steals it, and disappears leaving her in this fantastic reality that definitely is not virtual. Getting to grips with being trapped with no way to get home, a curious order of monks take her in and Iona sets about trying to get back home. But in a world of knights, dragons and sea serpents it will prove dangerous. And when Iona falls for the handsome and mysterious ranger, Shay, will she even want to go back home. There are a few startling twists in store involving the very reality of the new world she’s living in. The ending is particularly mend bending too. This is a thoroughly enjoyable read with a unique take on the fantasy genre with hints of romance and science fiction. The writing is fast paced and descriptive bringing Iona’s world to live in vivid colour. I definitely recommend this to everyone who is into fairytales, fantasy and science fiction.

Fantastic

Wow this one is action packed with a fast flowing and plot excitement in every chapter. Iona really doesn’t know what she’s signing up to when she is offered a new treatment to help her to recover from an injury. What follows is a story of parallel worlds, love, a fight for justice and a quest to uncover the truth of shady practices by the company responsible for Iona’s disappearance. The imagination that went into crafting this unique story is astounding. A thrilling page turner from the very beginning, with an explosive finish and a bittersweet ending. Excellent.

I thought this was worth a try after getting recommended. I thought it may have been geared towards a younger audience than myself but I was thoroughly captured by this mesmerising portal style adventure come sci-fi. It's an inventive plot with vivid imagination to create these alternate worlds. Absorbing throughout and would happily recommend this.

I thought, having read Epiphany books 1 & 2, that Ms Huber wouldn’t come up with anything as enticing and memorable as those. How wrong I was! The story gripped me from the start, as Iona began her ‘exercises’ on the newly invented kind of exercise bike, which was actually a tricycle. Although fixed to the floor, it appeared it actually took her on a journey in another place – AI, perhaps? She could see scenery and people who appeared real, but they couldn’t see her. She went a bit further each day, until she reached a certain point – and someone could see her! And that someone knocked her off the bike and rode away on it, leaving her trapped in a world she apparently had to learn to live in. It was a world apparently a few centuries behind her own, but she found herself as an honoured guest and being cared for in a sort of monastery. The more she learned about the world and learned the secret of her passage out of there was in a strange tower in the palace, the more determined she became to being part of the plan to break into it and make discoveries.
The story is full of interesting characters who immediately become ‘real’ to the reader and you find yourself immersed in this ‘medieval’ world, created by Ms Huber. Iona makes friends among those around her, but of course, there is in intriguing and extremely attractive Shay, who Iona is extremely puzzled by but drawn to…
What can I say? I loved it! Didn’t want to leave it; I wanted to stay in that world with Iona, but would she choose to stay there? The end was a surprise, but fitting.

A brilliant secondary world novel

After an accident, Iona Abernathy agrees to take part in a physical therapy exercise run by Borderland. They affix a trike to her spare room and she has to ride it every day. The trike enters some kind of virtual reality where she is riding through countryside and medieval looking villages. She has been warned never to leave the trike.

After several rides, she finds herself in a town where a man can see her. A first in this reality. She meets up with him and after an apology, he pushes her off the trike and taking her place rides away.

Iona finds herself abandoned in this secondary world, not a virtual reality at all. Following instructions in the pocket of the cloak the strange man left with her she arrived at a nearby priory.

She becomes th latest embodiment of the Living Aurelian, and discovers the stories of the previous Eternas. Iona slowly adapts to her new life, especially with the friendship o of Bunny and Isobel. Then there is Shay, the Priory ranger, they begin to develop feelings for each other.

Iona is determined to find a way back and help those villagers who have gone missing. Technology in the Tower where they believe they are being kept is from our reality not the secondary world.

Alliances are made and plans out in place. Though Iona still kings to see her dad and sister once more, she can't conceive leaving Shay behind.

Filled with excellent world building and characters the book builds the tension and the writing is excellent. Fully recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Fantasy.

As someone who loves isekai-style stories, I knew I was going to enjoy this story, and my expectations weren't let down at all.

After trialling a piece of exercise equipment, the main character, Iona, finds herself trapped in a richly imagined secondary world. What follows is a layered and atmospheric journey as she tries to piece together what exactly had happened and how she could find her way back home.

I was greatly impressed with the incredible world-building. I feel the author put a lot of thought into how she brought the world to life, as I could feel it in every scene. Not only could I clearly visualise the landscapes, buildings, and interiors, but I could also hear the sounds, and even smell the world around Iona. It was such an immersive story, and it felt as though I was walking right alongside her.

The characters were also well fleshed out from their clothing style to their personalities. It really made me appreciate the friendships that formed throughout the story. They added a layer of heart and emotional depth to Iona’s journey. If I had one request, it would be to learn more about Brother Quintus. He was an interesting character who might even deserve a short story of his own!

All in all, this was a beautifully crafted and engaging read. If you enjoy character-driven isekai or second-world fiction, this one is absolutely worth your time.

What can I say other than wow! This is the first book by Huber that I’ve read and i absolutely devoured it over a couple of days.

The Eternal Traveller follows the story of Iona who after signing up for a new exercise trial offered by Borderland Inc. finds herself trapped in an alternate reality. Thrown into the medieval way of living, Iona is taken in by a group of monks and here starts her quest to uncover what Borderland are really up to and find her way home.

Huber’s world building is excellent, vivid descriptions, with just the right amount of technical information to make it feel real really suck you in to this medieval setting. I didn’t want it to end. The characters were varied and well written and had me rooting for them from the start.

I didn’t really care for the epilogue and probably would have preferred the ending without it, however it didn’t dull my overall enjoyment of the book enough to dock any stars. A really fantastic read!

Iona Abernathy was injured in a car accident but is trying to get back in shape. A company named Borderland Incorporated has signed her up to try a VR exercise machine that looks like a “trike”. After two sessions that bend reality and transport her to another medieval-like reality she’s knocked from that device and trapped in the other world. There she realizes people regard her as some sort of time traveller – a latter day incarnation of a time-travelling saint. In this world there is royal intrigue, false identity, murder, monks, sea serpents and dragons nuns. Soon she falls in love with a wild sword dancer named Shay. She wants to go home to her world to at least tell her family she’s alright but knows the physics just won’t work for her to bring Shay back. She’ll have to make a choice: Stay or go? Beautifully researched and painstakingly detailed. You’ll love the adventure as I did.

An exquisite adventure.

Sometimes you find a gem of a story that you just weren't expecting - this is one of those.  Signing up for an experimental exercise programme post-accident, Iona gets more than she bargains for when the supposed VR technology isn't what it seems.  Dropped into an almost medieval new world, this isn't a classic portal story.  This is a masterclass in worldbuilding, where the characters are all too real.  From crazed Dukes to Dragon-Nuns, the characterisation is fantastic, with you rooting for or against the people you meet.  An interwoven love story and a desperate battle against a despot who wants to use the world for sinister ends lends itself to a real page-turner.  Real humour balances the story nicely (medieval bathrooms really are grim!), and the technical explanations are great.  Heartily recommend this one.

Imaginative and Captivating Fantasy
I didn’t just read The Eternal Traveler, I experienced. The vivid, exacting descriptions put the reader securely in this fantastical world. The lively, inventive plot draws you into the adventure. And the delightful insight into each character makes them richly relatable. I loved how the story intertwines the real world with fantasy in a way that is original, creative, and simply entertaining. I also found myself curbing my impulse to rush through the pages because of the compelling suspense in the plot, so that I would not miss the beautifully worded writing of it. This author does not disappoint. Do not miss the opportunity to read this book. Highly recommend it!

Author Helen Huber has done it again! What a tale, as we follow our feisty and quick-witted heroine, Iona, as she finds herself in an alternative world, brought there against her will. This world is medieval and hard to get to grips with initially, but slowly, Iona finds true friendship and even love as she navigates her way in this newfound reality. But how and why did this happen to her? And is she the only one? Can she return to her old world, and does she even want to? There are so many wonderful elements to this amazing story (including creatures from myths and legends). The world building is incredible, the descriptions are beautiful and the dynamics and dialogue between all the characters believable. Highly recommended.

From the moment Iona Abernathy stepped onto Borderland Incorporated’s experimental VR exercise machine, I was hooked.
The Eternal Traveller is an electrifying blend of sci-fi and fantasy, with world-building so vivid I felt as though I had been transported right alongside Iona into a world of monks, sea serpents, and mirror realities.
The mystery, the peril, and the slow-burning chemistry between Iona and Shay Hawksmoor kept me turning pages into the wee hours, savoring every detail.
Helen Huber masterfully intertwines adventure, intrigue, and deep character exploration, making every twist land with impact. The ending? Mind-blowing!
With dragons, deception, and destiny, The Eternal Traveller is a delight if you love fantasy with a sharp, original edge!

Participating in an experimental exercise programme, Iona is relocated to a medieval, fantasy world. She is welcomed by an order of monks as she plots her return home. Iona encounters an array of bizarre characters, including dragons and sea serpents. Romance blossoms between Iona and Shay, and the ranger aids her in breaching the mysterious tower, which holds the key to the time-travelling enigma. The ending was unexpected and well thought out. The author possesses such a vivid imagination, inviting the reader into a fantastic, magical world she describes well. Beautifully written this unique tale will stay with me for a long time. Superb!

A slow start to the story which picks up after our protagonist, Iona, jumps off her trike and meets the monks.

The story holds an original idea, where Iona cycles from the present to the past, and ends up in what appears to be the ‘Middle Ages’. We have a detailed account of Iona’s day to day life—well done to the author for the research—and how Iona copes with her new life, all the while wishing she could return home.

I’ll say no more and let the reader discover what happens to our protagonist. Will she…won’t she get back to the present?

Good

After a slow start, I found myself sucked in to this wonderful story as the pace sped up and the story began to flow. There is a lot of detailed world building, and it's obvious a lot of research went into this book. I enjoyed Iona's story, as her new exercise trike for physical therapy turns out to be a time travelling device and takes her to a wonderfully described medieval world! Not to spoil the story, but if you are a fan of good old British humour, fantasy, and a little interwoven romance you won't be disappointed.

A 5* Fantasy story!
This story begins the day Iona moves into her new flat, where she then reads an article in her local paper asking for volunteers to test a revolutionary new exercise apparatus.
Still struggling with her mobility, a year after the accident, Iona decides to check out the Borderland Incorporated website.

I found this book highly enjoyable. I was hooked and wanted to read on until the end. The end, by the way, is something else. As fantasy books go, this was entertaining, detailed in its world-building, a fast-paced story where the old world collides with the new, only lacking a map! That aside, the characters are fleshed out and their stories add to the overall narrative. It's a recommended read.

great read..

This is the first book of Helen Huber’s that I have read, but it won't be the last. If I'm honest it took a little time for me to get into the story but once I had, I was hooked. The story flowed and was well written. Her characters were interesting and intriguing, the concept mysterious and fascinating. I enjoyed it, and the end was not what I expected... Fantasy and other worlds are one of my favourites. Good for all ages.

Fabulous!

The Eternal Traveller -
Iona is thrust into a different medival reality, following the sign up for a borderland excercise trial. This is a very immersive story! I loved the worldbuilding in particular; Helen is very good at this. Some of the pacing could be slow though and I really didn't like the epilogue, but that's a personal preference.

I definitely would like to see more in this world!

A Book That Grabs You by the Throat in Chapter One and Doesn't Let Go.

I’ve read this author before, and I loved her first book so came to this one eagerly.

The first chapter of this book is sublime and sets the tone and pace for the rest of the story. Our heroine embarks on a new in-home exercise regime and takes delivery of a very special cycling experience. The concept is inspired.

The research that went into this book, and the author’s general knowledge and educated way of putting her ideas across are astounding. The writing is just beautiful.

The author has constructed an excellent story. From the first sentence, it was strong and held my interest. The characterisation is as good as any I’ve read, and the description is so colourful and tight that you want to continue reading. The imagination in this book will blow you away. Stunning writing, and an author you don’t want to miss.

I can’t recommend this book enough, it’s brilliant.

This is an incredible story, a book that grabs you right at the beginning and keeps you turning the pages. It is a modern meets historical with a woosh of Pirates of the Caribbean vibe. Truly adventurous and highly recommended. Great twist. I don't want to give out any spoilers, I want to recommend a great adventure novel that will keep you engaged. I loved the historical content and I could tell research had gone into this wonderful novel.
