Millicent Ambrose doesn’t know shit about love. And from what she’s witnessed of it, she isn’t missing out on much.
Between her best friend's struggles in her romantic relationship and her parents' questionable marriage, she'd rather focus on her interior design business.
Until one night at an empty hotel bar brings her face-to-face with a stranger who isn't impressed by her beauty or her ability to bring other men to their knees.
What starts off as a one-night encounter on the eve of a stranger's cancelled wedding propels them into a romantic dilemma neither of them saw coming.

This was very well written. I loved the heroine. She was strong, beautiful and stood for no nonsense.

The H and the h had a strong connection but their timing was all off and if anything actually happened on their night together or in the period after, she would have been the OW.

Recommend for angsty lovers with a strong heroine.

⭐️Thoroughly enjoyed this successful, beautiful, confident heroine
⭐️She owns her fabulousness and her faults
⭐️She’s the antithesis of the doormat h although she had a soft spot for her close friends

🍼He’s her total opposite; she actually refers to him as Sad Sam🤣
🍼He’s indecisive and emotional; has a knight in shining armour complex when it comes to his wife so he stays with her for the wrong reasons
🍼He’s a lover not a fighter so they wouldn’t even be together at the end if they didn’t meet up by chance

I wanna read the next book in the series just because I need to know if they have their HEA because there’s no talk of a future between them by the end of the book

First off, this story is unique, it is so different and intriguing that it sucks you right in and you literally have to know what happens to Miley and Sam in particular but also Selene. Secondly, it’s a tricky concept—a non relationship relationship! Yet, this author has very cleverly written it and done a fantastic job.

For me, I found it so hard for Miley. She is a self-assured woman who usually knows what she wants and goes for it. But with this situation she tries so hard to do the right thing and she does but suffers. Mind you Sam isn’t a bad guy either, a little misguided perhaps and slow to come to his senses 😆 but a really decent fellow.

This is a fast-paced book, which I literally finished in one sitting.
There is so much to and fro, not just within the non relationship but in other character’s relationships too, that there really isn’t a dull moment in the story. Testing boundaries, forbidden love and regrets are all explored successfully and smoothly in this story. The quality of the writing makes you reflect on many things and is something that I always enjoy when reading.

TW: Cheating

Millicent "Miley" is the friend that you can count on for honesty and a good time. She has no need for romantic endeavors, not after she's seen the way they wrecked her childhood home and later her best friend's trust. She's cool, control, collected, until a chance encounter one evening takes her out of her element. A called off engagement, a sharing of truths, and an empty room change the shape of Millicent's puzzle pieces, there is suddenly a spot in the shape of a man left empty. Nothing prepares Miley for the next time she sees him, the way his soul calls to hers, the way he is totally unavailable.

I will kick off this review stating that I am a reader who has no issues with cheating storylines, not that I approve of cheating, but rather I accept that it is a very realistic experience in life. We all know someone who has cheated, been cheated on, or who has been the other person. I am a reader of human experience and for me, this is part of the human experience. There is an art to taking a real life experience and fictionalizing it in a way that allows you to remove yourself from the natural judgement we all hold and to place ourselves into the shoes of another, Cynthia A. Rodriguez does that with Miley. She is tough as nails, determined, and full of sass, but within her is a soft side, a part of herself that she has protected with her armour and detachment from others. She approaches the circumstances with respect, with an intent to do right, and I think the way Rodriguez shares the story truly gives readers the ability to feel the dilemna, the pull between right and wrong, the pull between the truths we know and the lies we and others tell ourselves.

I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. I not only love Miley, but I love this entire world that Rodriguez has created. The friendships, the careers, the inner thoughts, the way the chemistry flows from the pages when it is little more than longing looks. It's powerful, profound, the kind of slow burn that aches and hurts, that you long for. It truly was such an incredible read and I think all readers should give it a chance. Let Miley in, let her tell you the story of forbidden loves, friendship, and what fate can sometimes mean.

I never thought I'd find myself rooting for this forbidden romance, but here we are!

Millicent is one of the strongest female characters I've ever read. She is headstrong, determined, she knows exactly what she wants and she is not afraid to go after it, that is till she meets Sam, with his heart on his sleeve. One of the most terrible moments in Sam's life becomes the catalyst to propel these two towards each other!

"Love doesn’t die cleanly. It leaves bloody streaks through every inch of your spirit"

Miley and Sam's story, felt so personal, watching their hidden moments, knowing something wasn't quite right but still feeling their connection through each page! As always, Rodriguez has managed to write the perfect soul tie. I think that's her gift. She is so good at writing soul mates that, no matter the circumstance surrounding the relationship, you can't help but fall in love with her characters. Miley and Sam are no exception. I was rooting for their love, regardless of everything!!

This is a remarkable piece of romance writing, it will have you questioning what is right and wrong, a deep and thought-provoking story, with a unqiue final chapter.

Millicent has a steel band around her heart, family can sometimes do that to you, but when she meets Sam, if only briefly her heart flutters a bit, but even if this couple are fated, or soul mates, Sam can never be her's, but that doesn't stop them from being placed in awkward situations together, or the fact that Millicent ends up helping Sam's wife Selene, but this is a tangled web and Ms Rodriguez sucks you so deeply into these 3 peoples lives that you are invested right to the end even if you thought you wouldn't or couldn't be.

This is an intriguing read, with a great well-thought-out final chapter.

This is the first time I am reading this author, I got intrigued by the blurb and went in blindly without any expectations. I was taken by surprise by this book. It was such a well written and beautifully written story. It was captivating and eloquently written. From the plot and the characters everything was impeccable. It was realistic and thought provoking. I loved Millicent’s character . She was such a strong female . There are moments at the beginning of a book that you are reading it and know this book is important. We met Miley in Teofila’s story, she was easy to love, she was fierce and loyal, it’s time for her story to be told. One that test boundaries, hers, yours, everyone you know. This book will open your mind.

Just get yourself ready for a change your soul journey. Millicent’s Guide to Surviving the Fall is one book I can’t wait for everyone to read. It will pull the emotions out of you, Cynthia out did herself as she brings to light to the taboo subject “forbidden, workplace and triangle” kinda love in such a way that you are render speechless.

Everyone deserves love, everyone may not understand how someone gets to their meet their love, but fate is a funny thing. One we may never understand and with this book it opens you up to compassion and an understanding that your path is set and as much as you try to fight against or not, eventually it all finds it way to you.

I just don’t know how to review this one… they say if you don’t have anything nice to say to not say anything at all so……
Look it wasn’t horrible it was just…I liked Miley she was strong & bold. I actually felt sorry for the OW or the ‘wife’. Yes she did wrong and well she was a little immature but the real villain in this book was our H or Z… he was indecisive, fleeting and one of the most unlikable H’s I’ve read in a long time.

Cynthia A. Rodriguez has truly outdone herself with her new forbidden romance, Millicent’s Guide to Surviving the Fall. This novel is emotional, heartbreaking, and just when I thought I had it all figured out…I realized there’s not a typical ‘bad guy’ here…just flawed characters written in the most poignant and beautiful ways. Readers will most certainly see not only glimpses of their past selves, but also the ghosts of past loves that still haunt us all, while reading this book.

An absolutely amazing story with a premise unlike anything I’ve read before. Very insightful and unique in how it all played out. The ending leaves much to the imagination yet leaving it in a very good place. I loved how the last few unexpected chapters bring closure for an unlikely character. Very well done!! A Must Read!

I never read a forbidden love story like this one and I have to say it’s one of my favorites. As always, Cynthia gives us these characters that we want to root for, regardless of if they could be seen as a villain or not. She makes us want everything to go right for them and that’s what she has done here. She’s given us hope that no matter what, we can move on from where we are and find something better.

Miley was a great character, strong-willed and someone I feel like a lot of women would love to be like or look up to. And then there’s Sam. Oh, Sam. When I was first introduced to him, it was through Selene in the Evil Queen anthology and I was excited that Cynthia was going to write his book so we could see his side of the story and man… reading it all together is just wow.

Cynthia also ties in the theme of what’s wrong or right for the situation Sam is in and she doesn’t necessarily mark a definition for what could be considered cheating and I liked that a lot since not everyone has the same ideas on that.

This is a fast-paced book. I finished it in one morning. It’s definitely a slow burn, so if you want a romance that quickly brings two characters together, you’re in the wrong department. BUT don’t let that distort your expectations for this book. Cynthia does a wonderful job of creating realistic characters and putting them in situations that anyone in the world can be in. They are simple situations that we all have reasons for either staying in or avoiding, and that’s what I love about this book.

I really enjoyed this story and, as always, I enjoy reading Cynthia’s work. Millicent’s Guide to Surviving the Fall is definitely a must-read.

This book will not be an easy read for some. Miley and Sam truly have a forbidden romance. Their chemistry and the feel of them being destined is so thick, unflinching, and the angst is...JFC... This book absolutely hurts. Miley has a steel wall around her heart—placed there by the way love has been modeled for her in her formative years, and seeing friends suffer heartache. So she likes control, and Sam tilts her off her axis. She cannot control her feelings around him, and a work commitment forces her to be near the man she shared a life-changing night with. I was dying to see what happened next, who touched who first. Talk about a slow fucking burn, but rightfully so. PLEASE make sure you read the last last LOST chapter in the book.
Whether there are bad guys to you in this story, or no bad guys, really all depends on your life experiences. We all view stories through our own unique lens. Cynthia proves again to be a master with her prose, tugging at your heart and soul with the fluidity and charge of her words.

Also, I really need Simu Liu as Sam in the movie version of this.

Cyn is a gift to the writing community.

I love the way she writes and weaves these realistic tales that make my heart ache all the while consuming me fully.

I read this story in two-days!!!! I was sucked right in and never wanted to be let go.

I fell in love with Milly from her first words and my love for her grew as I realized I was once Milly––though my story ended differently.

This was everything I could have hoped for and more. Realistic in the way that not only have I lived this I've had a front row seat to it.

I don't want to give too much away but I will say I was torn on the ending. I liked that we get the "sneak peak" and in the same breath I don't but it doesn't take away from the story because I like that that voice had time on these pages too.

Do your self a favor any books Cynthia A. Rodriquez drops, pick them up––her writing and her stories are everything the bookworld needs.

AHHH!! Miley is amazing. This whole series is absolutely phenomenal. I love the way the author weaves each story together and yet they are completely their own! We saw Miley as a teenager with Teófila ...so it felt like a fun reunion when it was her time to shine. She is strong and bold and outspoken; she is fun and funny! And the angst is real 🔥 ohhh, Miley and Sam are just perfect. Read skip on this book! Or anything else by this author!!!

This book a fantastic story of truly finding not just your soulmate in the most strange and forbidden (and angsty and slow burn) way, it’s also a raw and real look at the discovery of what truly motivates the decisions we make, and the consequences of those decisions.

I loved this book so much! Every second I had to step away I absolutely hated. Cynthia's writing puts you right into the story and you can visualize it all so vividly. Miley reminded me so much of myself and her struggle to not feel hurt over a guy she never had, something I myself have dealt with and could never put into words, she does it so amazingly. Just...read this book!!!

I don't even know what to say. I am speechless. Milli is one fierce woman and I felt for her from beginning to end. The story between her is intense and so realistic, it does take a while to realize you are reading a story. A story that had me crying, laughing, smiling, and rooting for their forbidden romance. This book is probably closer to a 3.5 than a 3. I'll admit the premise and storyline of the book are different and that was refreshing. However, I don't know. The book didn't pull me in like I was hoping. Miley is a strong, independent woman and she meets Sam who is so different from what she's used to. She is usually a man-eater and doesn't do commitment but one night with Sam (NOT a one night stand) and she's a different person. There were some great scenes in the book but for some reason I couldn't feel invested in these two, actually three because Selene becomes a major part of the book. I think it was interesting to see Miley and Sam's story kind of end 2/3 of the way through the book and then we follow Selene's journey. I thought that was inventive and cool but I still wasn't invested. I think this story is not bad but after reading so many other books that kept my attention, I'm not sure why this one didn't. I think that this is a great book for certain readers, just not this one.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

We're all afraid of something. Millicent Ambrose doesn't know a thing about love and from what she's witnessed, it doesn't seem like she's missing out on much. Until on night an empty hotel bar bring her face-to-face with Sam Lee, who isn't impressed by her good looks or her ability to bring other men to their knees. What starts off as a potential one-night encounter between two strangers propels them into a romantic dilemma neither of them saw coming. What happens when the woman who wanted nothing to do with love falls the hardest? or when her soulmate already belongs to someone else??

This is the story of Miley and Sam. They certainly do have a unique one to tell too. So if you are looking for something different to read then you have found it. Miley is a female character that is very self-assured and know what she wants and she goes for it. However in this book I felt so sorry for her because she was actually trying to do the right thing and she ended up hurting herself more often than not. I also really liked Sam, he's one of the good guys but a little slow on the uptake when it came to Miley. I loved the writing style of this book and it had my hooked from page on. I loved it so much I couldn't put it down. You guys do not want to miss this book.

The second book in the Guiding Sereis was just as captivating as the first.

Millicent does not want to ever fall in love. She has seen the effects it can have after watching her parents and best friends relationship. She has decided that love is not for her and she is happy having one night stands. Until the moment she meets a stranger in a bar. That one chance encounter changes her life forever.

This book has elements of cheating in the emotional sense. Miley & Sam have an emotional affair, instead of a physical one.

She fights her feelings for him knowing he is a married man. She tries to keep things strictly professional while designing his house.

The final chapter was a unique approach of seeing the other side of cheating.

Style: Taboo romance, cheating
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Enjoyment: 4/5
Dark Level: 0/5
Sexual Level: 🔥
Triggers: cheating
Violence: No
Pacing: slow-burn
Series: Book 2
Cliffhanger: No
HEA: Yes

I volunteered to arc read for Cynthia's newest novel and went for ride with these characters.

"Love doesn't die cleanly. It leaves bloody streaks through every inch of your spirit."

Meet Millicent (Miley). Die hard maneater. Feminist. Brilliant and beautiful. And will never commit to you.
Meet Sam (Sad Sam). Committed. Stalwart. Wants Miley, but married to Selene.

This story is a question of will they or won't they. Will Sam cheat? Will Miley allow it? Will you hate both of them if they do?

"If I'm the climb, he's the fall. If I am weightless, he is gravity pulling me under anyway."

Cynthia did a brilliant job of navigating this treacherous path giving you all the feels but never crossing a line. Her prose is beautiful. Weaving in beautifully crafted lines that will have you laughing. Her characters pull you in and beg the question of what is right and what is wrong. And how do you get a HEA when everyone could get hurt?

This is one of those stories that I find hard to define. There were so many layers to the to the story of Millicent and Sam. What coincidental meeting, one decision can change everything. There were things I loved like Millicent. I loved her. She was a good friend, loyal and loving. I love how didn’t succumb to her feelings and stuck by her guns of not going there with Sam. I had a love hate relationship with Sam. I admire his loyalty and him trying to do the right thing. I didn’t like the situation(s) he put Miley and to some extent, Selene too. The entire situation was a mess.
Selene, for most of the story was an unsympathetic character. By the end you empathize.
The story moved along pretty fast. A lot of of would they or won’t they.
