South Dakota is the last place interior designer Adele Evans wants to be. Painful memories are buried there, memories she’s struggled for sixteen years to overcome. But when a high-profile client—the kind who could elevate her career—hires her firm to complete and furnish the inn on a new dude ranch retreat, she returns home to Evangeline.
Adele soon discovers Evangeline is no longer the sleepy town from her childhood. It’s the spotlight for the popular reality television show, The Farmer Takes a Wife, starring Colby Graham, the very man she thought she’d outrun. Even worse, she missed the fine print in her contract, and has been dropped into a new reality television show The Heart’s Design. Now, her goal of avoiding Colby is impossible.
After eight failed almost-marriages during his debut as a reality television star, Colby is thrilled to have Adele back in Evangeline. His long search for her is finally at an end, and she’s the only woman he wants to spend his life with. All he has to do is convince her to give him another chance. But overcoming their complicated past won’t be easy.
Featuring a new cast of colorful characters, witty banter, and a slow-burn second chance romance, don’t miss the dramatic conclusion to the South Dakota Brides series.

This is a second chance romance story between Adele and Colby. They made some bad decisions in their teens that led to a break up and a lot of pain. Colby has searched for Adele for 15 years and now they are reconnected. Overall, I thought this story was cute. I did have a few issues with Colby, he was just very pushy to me and not as respectful towards Adele as I would have liked. I did however enjoy the last 40% of the book a lot. And overall thought the story cute. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary wcopy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
What a great conclusion to the series! The first book was so much fun. While The Farmer and Adele didn't have as many comedic moments, that shift made sense for the story. I enjoyed this second in the series even more than the first.
Adele never planned to return to Evangeline, South Dakota and especially didn't want to see her high school boyfriend Colby. However, after a devastating impact to her interior design business in Montana, she couldn't pass up the money and exposure offered by participating in an interior design challenge.
Colby never stopped loving Adele and is elated to have her nearby. The pace of their rekindling romance was just right given Adele's commitment to avoiding Colby.
Engaging story from beginning to end. And the cover is adorable.
My gratitude to the author for a complimentary e-book copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was an enjoyable read as a completion to The Farmer Takes a Wife. Liked seeing several from the first book but meeting more characters. It gave us several real conflicts that families can face. I’ll watch for others from this author.
When I finally reached the end. I teared up. The drama was over, Victor and G.J. were done manipulating things and Colby finally had his Adele.
After I had finished The Farmer Takes a Wife and saw that there would be a second book I just had to message Candice and ask to be an ARC reader!
I loved getting to know Adele. She was Colby’s perfect match. They both had regrets, and Adele had to realize that redemption was possible.
I love that more Christian authors are tackling the topic of sexual sin, instead of glossing over it, or avoiding it and paining perfect characters that never struggle.
Thank you for the early copy and a delightful read and wonderful ending for both Colby and Stone!
I loved this second book in the South Dakota brides series. It continued the story from book one, but could easily be read as a stand-alone. Perfect for those who like clean romance fiction. I received a copy of this story and all opinions are my own.
I absolutely adored “The Farmer Takes a Wife “ so I was over the moon when I saw there would be a follow up story.
“The Farmer and Adele” was equally as great as the first book. Candice Sue Patterson has quickly become a favorite author. I love how she’s able to a blend sweet fun romance story with more serious and meaty situations, creating a book that not only entertains but challenges. Add to that they are delight to read.
I strongly suggest reading “The Farmer Takes a Wife” first. You absolutely could read this one on its own, but 1. The first book is an excellent read and 2. It really enhances the reading of this story. There are nuances you will miss if you read this as a standalone. Again, it would still be an excellent read, but just better with the other book 1st.
I don’t know that there will be any others in this series, but I certainly hope this author writes more contemporary romances. She does it so well!
When the first book ended with a happy story for 2 of the 3 main characters I was thrilled to learn a second book was coming.
So what happens to our heart throb farmer now that he has found his high school sweetheart? The second book in this series takes you on another reality show full of fun, ups and downs and producers who will do anything to make sure they have a hit TV show.
I loved the second novel and getting to spend more time with Colby and his friends.
I was Team Colby throughout the first book in this series, so I loved reading about his happily ever after in The Farmer and Adele. The author uses characters’ past mistakes to remind us that true love is tethered to forgiveness, restoration, and a hope that lasts. Such a fun, clean read for any romantic.

I loved this book so much!!! It's the perfect conclusion to the series. You can totally read this as a stand-alone book, but it was so fun to catch up with the characters from the first book, The Farmer Takes a Wife.
This author is fast becoming one of my favorites, she has such a way of drawing you into a story. She perfectly balances swoony romance with God-honoring stories. I loved how she didn't condemn or show approval for the choices that Adele and Colby made when they were young. I love second chance romances, and this one was chef's kiss perfect! The struggles both characters went through, the inner demons they each had to struggle with, were handled beautifully. I didn't want the book to end honestly. The whole setting and all of the side characters just feel so real, like family. It was a joy to get to read this book.
I highly recommend for anyone who loves second chance romances, reality romances and friends to more romances. This is a perfect heartwarming read when you need something that will leave you smiling and feeling the warm fuzzies.
I received an early copy of this book from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
This story just kept getting better and better the more of it that I read. It was great to have more contact with our previous hero and heroine from The Farmer Takes a Wife, though they didn't overwhelm the story. Colby is a thoughtful, respectful beau and is a person you'd want your own daughter to marry. Adele carries a lot of baggage so forgive her contrariness and doubt. She eventually comes to the realization of who she is and what is best for her life.
Candice is such a polished author, and I recommend you read all of her books.
