Beulah Hyde was an immensely talented artist in Tacoma. WA in the 20th century. In the first half of the book, her story and influence on the art scene of this region is well described by curator and Northwest art expert, David Martin. The latter half of the book contains pages and pages of the artwork of Hyde. Beulah Loomis Hyde was fascinated by the industrial scene of Tacoma in the time period immediately after WWII, and hence a large collection of her art depicts objects like the 562 ft. tall Asarco smoke stack, aluminum plants, grain elevators, cyclone funnels and log booms. She took on a modernist, experimental approach to her art - often reducing her subjects to basic geometric shapes and interesting color palettes. Hence the title “Form and Structure”. Art lovers, historians and Pacific Northwest folks, this is a book worthy of your coffee table or personal library!
