The end of the world is always a nightmare. But when it comes with the System, then it’s not a nightmare for everyone. Not everybody is ready to fall into despair and come to terms with their fate as zombie food. Some people are ready to keep fighting however they can.
Take Kasp as an example of one of those people. The end of the world was no nightmare for him. In fact, when the zombies and the System showed up, it brought new meaning to his life along with exciting new adventures! Our once introverted and antisocial hero now talks to people in real life even more than he ever did before the world ended.
And the System also granted him an interesting artifact. A zombie head that never shuts up for even one second. It was the best present for an introvert whose only talent was thinking.
The protagonist is an unredeemable a#hole. he abuses his skills to constantly scare and terrorise even his allies and finds it funny when one of his allies gets acid all over him this way. The fact that he provides a healing potion afterwards does not absolve him from being a sociopath.
I also found the scene where he made an ally piss himself and embarrass himself in front of everyone for the protagonist's amusement disgusting..
My sentiments about the protagonist were further cemented by the fact that he repeatedly decides to endanger everyone for his personal gains..
This is a review of the ARC for this book, not the finished product. This will be the first time I directly review the ARC itself and not the finished product that I had received the ARC of.
I flat out don't like the MC. If that is what the author was going for he did a great job. The MC is an ass, plain and simple. He purposely pops up to scare people. His own people! Caused one to get caustic chemical fumes in his eyes. I don't care if you have health potions, it's just a crappy thing to do to someone. He learns how to read peoples minds and even implant suggestions. So of course he goes around secretly reading everyone's thoughts. Implants the suggestion in a guys head, one of his own people, that he should piss his pants. When the guy does the MC then messes with another guys mind to get him to want to trade for the wet pissed in pants. The MC thinks this is funny. I didn't enjoy a lot of things that the MC did in this book.
I also happened to find 88 mistakes, but I sent a list to the publisher and I'm sure they will get fixed soon. I know that I probably missed mistakes as well. So if you find any feel free to report them. The translation from Russian to English on this one was rough. Possibly done on a device with spell check. I say this because a lot of the mistakes were the wrong word. The word would normally show up right next to the correct word on my spell check, telling me that the translation was rushed.
Now, I would give the book itself two stars purely because I dislike the MC's actions towards his own people in this book. The story would be excellent if you kill the MC. Harsh I know, but I think that he has earned it.
I forgot to review book one in this series so just in case you read this review before reading the series, I would urge you to to persevere with the first quarter of book one as the MC is underdeveloped and unlikeable. However, things improve quickly, and both books in the series are worth persevering with.
However, the poor editing makes for a great deal of frustration as you have to reread phrases and sentences far too often to get the gist of what is being said and the flow of the story becomes stilted when this happens. Despite this, I will read the 3rd book when it is released because the plot, the MC's development, and the humor have lured me in, and I want more.
Main characters is a bit of a anti-hero and that he is socially introvert who only looks out for himself. It's narcissistic tendencies break when he realizes others who have not harmed him but are trying to do well, he seems to find kindness. There's a lot of filler, a few plot holes, and sometimes the story rambles but with information about characters that are only important in the moment. Well that said though it's a fun fast read, unique and entertaining because you're not really sure where the main character will take his whims next.
I received a review copy of this book. Took me a while to finish this one, got tied up with other things, and forgot about this book until I got the next one in the series. A shame really, since I like this series, and finishing the second book did hold a surprise or two. Liking the way this one is panning out. Looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
I am honestly surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed watching Kasp and crew grow and advance as well as the various twists and turns of the story without feeling like anything has been wasted.
I had been looking forward to this book since I really liked the first one and I wasn’t disappointed. I laughed out loud several times it was so funny! Thanks author!
The second book in the series does not disappoint! Lots of action and lots of loot being processed. He is really helping humans and we can see he will continue to help those in need.
