Rate this book
Are you ready for the end of the world? Brace yourself for a thrilling ride as the Earth is delivered a mortal blow in BROKEN DESTRUCTION, the first book in a gripping new thriller series.

On a typical Tuesday in an average July week, all of Iceland's volcanoes erupt at once, followed by the complete destruction of the Azores Archipelago and the violent sundering of the Atlantic Ocean. Millions are dead and the Earth is left in ruins. Is this the beginning of the end?

As calamity strikes, the best and worst of humanity is brought to the surface.

In Nebraska, former USGS geologist Ben Stone prepares for Armageddon, but his plans are shattered when the disaster overwhelms his predictions.

Max Ungle, a whistleblower who has known of the disaster's origins from the beginning, is determined to stop it at any cost, even if it means being ridiculed, ignored . . . even killed.

Ben's brother Will Stone, a retired Army Ranger, must come out of retirement to save the planet's most precious resource, the Magnetosphere, from a cataclysmic collapse.

The clock is ticking as the race to stop a diabolical plot that could end humanity forever begins. Can they do it in time, or will the Earth be destroyed forever?

A worthwhile read!

The writing in this story was excellent with very few mistakes or use of bad grammar, which really impresses me. And I enjoyed the plot and feel that the author did her research on a number of different parts of the story and though there was a lot of technological scientific stuff going on It was all very fascinating with plenty of side plots and interesting characters to boot that you were rooting for. And she really knows how to create the atypical bad guy not just once but two or three times. You found yourself shaking your head at her characterization of President Tanner, who God help us if we ever had a President like him in our country. The other one was the egocentric power crazed Hart. Neither one of them seem to have any morals or little value for human life. The ending was very satisfying and I enjoyed the epilogue as well. That we got to find out what happened to certain people whose situations were rather precarious when the earthquakes and floods started. I am looking forward to book two of this series.

superior story

The writing is excellent: great command of the language, only a very few “word” errors…the pace is perfect and moves quickly covering several areas/people/situations throughout the entire book. Giving the “cannon” a suspension of belief (and hoping no one ever develops something like this!), the story is believable and enjoyable for any fan of worldwide ruination. This is the first of three books and nothing about the story has slowed down and become unsustainable for the storyline. Looking forward to the next book, and would recommend this strongly for fans of this genre.

A scary book to read and wonder about it.

You are taken on a journey that will leave you wondering what they are doing can it really happen to this planet. When you deal with people that are rich , they really do not care about anything but themselves and nobody else. The did a great job with the book you have hard time putting it down , at times scared the help out of me . Could jerks really find a way to control the world the way they want , be wear of jerks we are better and care for others.

Really, surprisingly good disaster fiction

Broken Earth: Devastation is a sci-fi/disaster thriller hybrid that's so much better than I had hoped. Several sciences, from geology to quantum computing are involved and very well researched. Unlike many similar novels, the disasters keep coming, instead of just an initial disaster and its aftermath. The plot is well structured, well paced and lacking holes. Characters are well written. Everything about this book exceeds expectations, I'm really looking forward to book 2!

greed

This is a story about breathing power company has made a mantle canon and has used it twice. Wow, they thought that the damage would not be as bad as it was, they continued to use the canon in order to get money and power. I found this a very interesting book, and I’m sure there’s a sequel to other books. I recommend it for those who like to read the end of the world books.

DISASTER!!!!

This novel will definitely get the reader thinking! Could this happen to the earth today, in the future? Ben Stone and Max desperately tried warn the people especially The United States government. Unfortunately their cries fell on deaf ears. So much devastation worldwide. Barbara J Barker is an amazing storyteller. While this is a standalone novel, the second book in the series will further explain how things are on THE BROKEN EARTH.

I really liked this book. The premise of how the earth was to be destroyed was new to me and I liked it. I did get bogged down at time with some of the technical aspects of the story but the details can be skimmed over and you will get the point of what is going on. Ready for the next one and hoping for more stories of humanity and how it copes after the disaster.

Great Read

Characters drawn well.i. So happy it was not a constant shoot ‘em up. I prefer narratives that pit people against nature and pulls them together..yes there were d guys. But the narrative was rich and powerful.

Excellent.

This story line is full of more twist and turns than one could count! A new mystery around every corner. An excellent read, very hard to put down. Now, on to book two.

Great story! It was necessary to "suspend my disbelief" that all the characters in the book that worked for the company in the story would actively participate in what was happening. But overall it was a good read. I am looking forward to reading the sequel.

hell of a ride

It’s been two decades since a EOTWAWKI novel kept me up all night, ripping through the text, cursing the evil and cheering on the flawed. Human misery vs human triumph. Great job, Barbara!

very enjoyable read

Excellent disaster novel. I always the enjoy the disaster rather than post disaster events. I found the contrast between greed and Mother Nature fascinating

Wild Ride

Even though this book is fiction, with all the unrest and climate change that is being denied, I can see these scenes really happening around the globe
