We can have our dreams, but miracles take longer...
As a VISTA worker on an Indian reservation in Arizona, Stacy Waring was used to hard times. But even her professional training as a nurse did not prepare her for a combination of a crooked doctor and a lack of funds which left her people without lifesaving drugs. Stacy knew that she had to take action, yet ended up with a lot more than she bargained for when she stepped into Greg Fields's office....
An architect, Greg was used to drawing up plans and seeing them become reality. Charts and blueprints were just a part of his life's course, though, after he met Stacy, he was not about to let her disappear....
Arrogant, rich, entitled, condescending and racist manho architect marries downtrodden but sweet and valiant virginal nurse who is championing the cause of women's health at the local Native-American reservation. She gets pregnant, miscarries and he accuses her of having an abortion behind his back and being a Golddigging Hall of Famer. She leaves, he lives in regret for a year before he tracks her down and high-handedly manipulates her into coming back to him, but not before she almost dies from pneumonia that was really a nervous and physical breakdown caused by his return. This author likes her martyr heroine romances and this was no exception. It is however exceptionally written so for the angst junkies, I think this would be worthwhile. I can't like it because, though he did suffer, it wasn't even an iota of what he put her through. He needed to grovel and atone, not force her hand, so for me the conclusion was underwhelming to say the least.
