This book offers the greatest hits of Japanese history but doesn’t offer any in depth information. If you want to know simplistic and basic information, you will like this book but I prefer a more deep dive into the facts and events of history. I like to have analytical information not just a simplistic era by era top ten list. This book could help you write a sweeping fourth grade book report but it doesn’t impart much knowledge or insight into Japan or its rich culture.
The numbered facts make it easy to read. They are set up like facts by like facts, creating a paragraph if you put them together. So these are not just random facts. The books always have organizational issues that can be sharpened. Don't give me a section till the present if you are going to go into many other sections about the present period. Overall a good way to learn about Japan. Shout out to Utada!
