Had this been published by Faber & Faber, it would have been titled LEAN ON LEAN. Silverman’s rare access to his subject yields endearing, embattled, and quietly observational moments throughout this brisk yet encompassing retrospective of a storied career. Lean as technician is apparent throughout, along with his ups and downs as a collaborator, that nevertheless always produced tremendous and memorable results.
