Surprisingly good book for biblical Greek beginners. It doesn’t teach much Greek at all, but focuses on resources and skills for doing Greek word studies. Their recommended resources and process for word studies can be done by anyone who can at least recognize a Greek word (basically anyone who knows the alphabet).

They give options for paid and free resources (lexicons, software for “concordance” studies, and commentaries). However, they very much encourage buying the best (which will run you at least $500 at current prices).

Main downside is they teach Erasmian pronunciation in chapter 1, and occasionally refer to it elsewhere. But given the main focus of this book is not teaching Greek per se, that isn’t a huge problem.

This is a great little resource for laypeople interested in Greek word studies. It was different than what I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't what I needed, but it is something I will be recommending and putting in the hands of others. If you're intimidated by learning Greek but want to be able to handle exposition faithfully to the text, this is an excellent place to start. The resources are top notch and the introduction will boost confidence. Highly recommended!

An excellent, up-to-date resource delivering just what it promises in the title. Pretty much exhaustive; highly recommended for every new student, even before they pick up their first grammar.

I especially appreciate exegetical fallacies are not left out; despite it being introductory level, it contains all the relevant „advanced“ information to help the student stay humble and careful in their exegesis of Scripture.

I read this trying to think through resources to teach other people Greek. I believe this book clearly accomplished what it sets out to do - teach people how to do Greek Word studies. Understandably, the authors are unable to fit everything needed about Greek grammar in here to comprehend all of Biblical Greek. Hopefully, this whets the appetite of any readers for more!
