Unloved and unwanted, Katsia is left by her abhorrent siblings. Now she is alone with her estranged father, who, while still living at House Luz, abandoned her long ago. All her life Katsia has suffered from what she believes to be a terrible illness. The Shadows have teeth, eyes, spindly fingers, and something to say. But is it insanity or something else that plagues her? She will soon discover exactly what it is as she is plunged into a new world filled with secret organizations, Gods and Goddesses, friends and foes. In the world of Stone, who can she trust?
C.K. Hart writes female character-driven fantasy that blends ancient magic, secret identities, and impossible choices. Her stories are often described as dark, emotional, and intense. She writes to make people feel. Whether it’s heartbreak or hope, she believes the best stories are the ones that linger. When she’s not writing, she’s cooking, gardening, or being bossed around by her two cats.

If I read a book and it makes my whole body so cold no fire can ever warm me, I know that is poetry. -Emily Dickenson
Wow, absolutely devoured this book - what a debut!
If you enjoyed Rachel Gillig's The Shepherd King Series, you may enjoy this book as there are poetic elements in the prose, a similar air of uncomfortable questions that need answers, and touches of dark fantasy. Although the world building was not as robust as other fantasy novels I have read, it was expansive enough to draw me in and I enjoyed the Authors ability to let the reader extrapolate.
If you are a Romantasy genre reader, this book is plot driven but I can see the slow burn element coming into play - its hard to say more without spoilers.
Although not very 'heavy' on the Greek Mythology throughout, based on the ending I can see this becoming more of a main theme for the next in the series and under that lens, I did decipher more after finishing. Chaotic, kind of shocking, and leaving me with many questions, I was genuinely surprised at what happened and I am eager for the next one.
This was a good listen! The book is slower paced, plot driven and was slight confused about what was going on at first but the last few chapters explains it all!!! Just great. Definitely want to go back and read physical book to catch clues that must be present. I went into this book blind.
First time author and I'm looking forward to more from C K Hart. Hits all the necessary elements that I want in a no el of the mystic. Keep up the good work. 👍
