I loved loved loved the IDEA of this book. A Time Machine is created by a university researcher and his future wife and his professor. The story follows the first person sent through. Or was he? The story loops through multiple characters and their interactions with others creating a maze of action and reactions. The writing is not as strong as the concept, but I powered through because I really liked the imagery of what it might be like to time travel.
This story is about Richey Lamacq, whose life is at a depressing downward spiral until he is recruited to be the first person to travel back in time. This is at best a risky proposition, but having nothing to lose, Richey takes the challenge. Richey is sent back to 1913 England, where he has to adjust to the different times. He undergoes the life of an uneducated "every man" type character, until he joins the army and is severely injured by an explosion in a German bunker. At this point, the story begins to get more convoluted and more incongruities appear. I was engrossed in this story and really like the character, Richey Lamacq. The end of the book leaves me feeling like it is unfinished, but I believe this is what the author intended, so that more books can be written. I recommend this book to those who like light science fiction that doesn't require a lot of scientific thinking - just an entertaining fantasy. I received this book from the author via Voracious Readers Only.
I received a free copy of this book via Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review. What a great story! Three quarters of the way through, I was puzzled how it was all going to come together, but the last chapter made everything make sense and was a real 'aha' moment! Well thought out, well paced, well worth reading, highly recommend!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review. I liked the concept and the characters. The plot twist was unexpected a few details were left untied up at the end, but I enjoyed this book.
