Trends in Offensive Football: Volume 1

Rate this book
Wise old coaches will tell you that football is cyclical. What goes around always seems to come back around.

Who knew the Single Wing would see a resurgence in 2023—nearly a century after it’s heyday. Offenses and Defenses are constantly responding to changes in Strategy and Personnel. What works one season, might get figured out by the next season.

Wise old coaches will also tell you that football is fundamentally a copycat game. Just like Picasso said, “Good artists borrow, great artists steal.” Since no one owns the patent on GT Counter, we’ll just say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If you find something in these pages that will work for your team, make sure you put it to good use.

Trends in Offensive Football is designed to help football coaches respond to the most unique and effective schemes from the previous season. The purpose of this book is not to encourage you to follow every trend. You don’t need a brand new system, but you might need a few tweaks and wrinkles that keep your team operating at peak efficiency.

If you’re a Defensive Coach who stumbled upon this book, hopefully these Trends will inspire you to respond with a creative defensive solution. The most fun I’ve ever had coaching football is facing a well prepared Defensive Coordinator. Strategic sparing matches sharpen both sides of the ball and keep this great game moving forward.

I stumbled on this book back in the day when I was on social media. Saw an ad and took a stab knowing that Dan Casey was usually full of great stuff and was ultimately rewarded with a fantastic book!
This is a book about plays in American Football. It is broken up into the different aspects of offense: the running game, passing game and even the special teams game. As stated in the book it is "designed to help coaches..." and as a coach it sure helped me.
The meat and potatoes of the book are plays, unique and successful plays from the college and professional levels out of different formations. On one page Coach Casey names the team who ran it, the name of the play, the play drawn up, and a place to take notes on it. On the facing page the play is verbally broken down, and what I absolutely loved and what I think makes the book special is a QR Code that you scan with your phone which opens up different video cuts of the play. AWESOME! You can read it, you can see it and take notes on it, all in a nice, 107 page book.
Coach Casey gives you all you need to get an understanding of all the different plays out of so many different concepts and formations. This is volume one, just recently a defensive book was issued which like volume two of the offense is something I cannot wait to get my hands on!
Highly recommended to football coaches and fanatics. A four star only because of the limited scope of the audience.

This is a very brief book that contains QR codes so you can see the plays the author highlights in action. I just wish the book were longer and that the author did a better job of explaining what the play is and why it worked.
If the target audience are actual football coaches then my complaint is off base but for a layman more explanation is needed.

Good quick read looking at some modern schemes/concepts in football today. The QR codes are a plus as it gives you film to view the scheme/concept at work! Great read for football coaches.

Super light read for anyone wanting to learn more about the offensive side of the ball or anyone looking to install unconventional plays on CFB 26.
