"Your writing is just MIND-BLOWING! While reading your book “Reverse Rivalry”, I was like “oh!!! This is what I always wanted to read! Perfect enemies-to-lovers trope story!!! Totally my type of story!!! I LOVE IT!” - silver-butterfly.
Skylar Lain was a menace. Jale Kierson was a dumb jock. They butted heads constantly without mercy to their wellbeings. Throw in fights, anger and visceral hate for each other. There's no doubt about it. They loathed each other with every ounce of their souls, but things escalated when they both ended up having to endure a punishment they would never have imagined.
Everyone knows, "where there's smoke, there's fire," so is the boiling hate between them just that hot and out of control or is there something more? Will Skylar and Jale destroy each other or will they finally learn to get along?
Best SMUT in the whole freaking world. The writing and dialogue style is unconventional, but that is even better because it feels like every mm book has the same writing style nowadays. Come with an open mind, and you're going to love it
When I read enemies to lovers MM romance I want this intense, vicious hatred and this book really delivered that, if not even too much? The loathing to the point they wanted to kill another, they had vile disgust to each other.
Skylar was a psychopathic menace. Messed up in his head and broken for sure (a bit cliche unloved rich kid trope), he was pure evil. Sometimes I just want a truly bad character without traumatic past to justify his darkness. Skylar was quite a masochist, the sheer amount of body hits he got from Jale and just taking it.
At first Jale was just a sickening violent boy for me but as more was revealed, I felt sorry for him. He was good but weak and unfortunate? Despite all his rage, deep down he also thrived on this toxic shit they had. Skylar was a sicko for sure and his torment of Jale started to annoy me though.
I was curious to see how romance could ever happen between them. The build up to their first explosive kiss could have been a little longer to ramp up that sexual tension because it came up a bit too suddenly amidst all that raw hostility. Bi-awakening was good but I wished there was not secret pinning, maybe it wasn’t as active, sort of subconsciously repressed. When their first meeting was revealed, there was SOMETHING but Skylar was too young, only hate was a feeling he knew which led to unhealthy obsession but it was a twisted love underneath it all. Development of feelings wasn’t as organic for me.
Spice (nicely explicit) came up a bit too fast imo (straight to penetration). But seriously, I can’t believe I’m writing this but I kind of expected their sex to be prep-less since they have such pain kink (they don’t mind bruising each other until blood is pouring so a tearing ass should be up their alley).
And I don’t care how cruel and revolting stuff they did to each other but using girls as tools for revenge was unacceptable. Jale sleeping with Skylar’s girlfriend was a line crossed too far then Skylar trying to hook up with Jale’s sister was equally horrifying.
There was poor editing, grammar was questionable and spelling errors missed in proofreading, many dialogs were split as it was a discussion between two people when it was the same person speaking still. Also whiplash POV switch. This kept throwing me off so the book sort of lost my interest somehow (it was very long).
