This delightful small book contains what may be a now, or soon to be, lost art. Palestinian embroidery can be dated back at least to the early 1800’s, and as with many other embroidered items in the greater middle east, the colours and patterns define the origins. This particular book, describing a particular museum collection, is primarily about cross stitch including the history, how to’s, colours and patterns. There are many good colour photos herein as well as charts for reproduction. The author also goes to the effort of discussing what specific colours of currently available cotton threads would be the most appropriate for use. This is an excellent book for those interested in Palestine, cultural art, and/or embroidery.
