what if all the terrible things happening were related to my existence and we had to figure out what's actually going on while being actively hunted down (even though we don't know) and we were both boys

We're really leaning into the horror now with more spirits making their way down the mountain and into the village. And that cliffhanger! I reacted just like Yoshiki with how oddly attached I've become to 'Hikaru'.

The changing dynamic between our protagonists is one of my favourite things about the progression of this manga. It's obvious Yoshiki is starting to grow fond of 'Hikaru's' company, beyond just his fear or forgetting the real Hikaru. It's even more interesting now that more people know about him amidst the escalating supernatural presence in the village.

Artwork is amazing as usual!

After three volumes of rich character development and world-building, the story is finally delving into more compelling plotlines.

I’m really enjoying the horror atmosphere of the series, and I hope this aspect continues to be explored more deeply in future volumes.

This is, in my opinion, the best volume yet—raising the stakes and adding layers of suspense that I’ve been waiting for.

Read for a goodreads group BOTM :DDD

In this 4th book of the series, everything is now focused on the lore. How Hikaru's reincarnation is made and the hidden connection to the impurities and traditions related to the mountains. The existence is still a mystery and i think most answers would be revealed on the next one. Unlike the third one tho, this book went back to making Hikaru & Yoshiki being the main focus of this book instead of the other characters! Poor everyone else tho since their screen time would be highly lessed but good for my two baby bois Hikaru & Yoshiki cuz they are now back in the spotlight. I also loved their now even stronger 'relationship' :) and how the two of them piece the mystery of the weird things happening in the city ✨together✨.

This volume leans more into the horror aspect of the story and the mystery of what's happening in the region. Disturbing incidences in the surrounding towns have increased so much that everyone is starting to notice. Yoshiki is committed to helping Hikaru make sense of his existence, and I loved seeing him finally start relaxing around him. 5 stars

The cliffhanger ending 🫣😲

Honestly don't know what's going to happen I'm vol 5 but it can't come quick enough. I love this series because I never know what's going to happen next.

I'm also excited for the anime that's just been announced as well.

in this fourth volume of the summer hikaru died, yoshiki begins to accept “hikaru” as a separate entity. however, his true identity remains a mystery, even to himself. the two decide to investigate the lore behind their village’s mountains, finding about an ancient god known as nounuki-sama, who may or may not be “hikaru.”

i loved this volume! taking a deeper dive into the history of the mountains was so interesting. since “hikaru” took over hikaru’s body, he has some of his memories, but not enough to completely know the indous’ connection to the mountain and to the god who just might be “hikaru.” i can’t wait to learn even more about where “hikaru” and the village’s curse came from in the next volume.
