Highlands New Year is the second book in the Highlands Christmas Romance series by Amy Quick Parrish. I loved the first book, Highlands Christmas, which was Melissa and Colin’s story. This one has some updates on them as well as some new love interests for Melissa’s friend, Caitlin and Colin’s sister Lindsay.

When Melissa left Boston for Scotland, she left in a hurry without any explanation. Now her best friend, Caitlin Montgomery, needs to see in person that she is okay. So she’s off to Scotland for a visit and an adventure.

Melissa, Caitlin and Colin’s sister, Lindsay, plan a trip to do some sight seeing but as soon as they get there, an accident sends Melissa and Colin back to Inverness and Caitlin and Lindsay on their own. When a huge snow storm sneaks up on them, they find themselves stuck with two very sexy men and their adventure takes a whole new turn!

While this was sweet and I liked that we were getting a bit of all three couples, it also included a LOT of description. Of their folklore, history, traditions, foods and even the scotch they were sampling. I found it hard to keep focused during these parts and ended up skimming a bit. So it was cute and I enjoyed seeing these women find love, the book didn’t sweep me away like the first one did.

Thank you to Amy Quick Parrish and Flying Cactus Press for an Advanced Reader Copy of "Highland's New Year," which I found to be an entertaining read.

I felt like I took a trip to Scotland without leaving my comfy sofa! Oh- and three cheers for Melissa and Colin's storyline! And those lumberjacks sound so dreamy- Thoughts of Henry Cavill, anyone?!

The secondary characters are a lovely, supportive addition that gives extra depth to the book in the most delightful way. The plot flowed at a nice pace which made for a cozy, engaging read. This is a wonderful, festive book that brings out the best of the season in a reading format, and will be sure to entertain you! Think fun and relaxing!

Happy Holidays!

Picking up where the last book left off, this was just a fun, festive, feel-good read that see's Maggie's best friend Caitlin coming to visit her in Inverness over Hogmenay (New Years). When a storm rolls in, Caitlin and Maggie get separated and Caitlin finds herself snowed in with Colin's sister at a charming in with two other handsome Scots. Full of charm and a great cast of secondary characters, I am excited to see what's next in this series! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

I received a free copy of, Highlands New Year, by Amy Quick Parrish, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book two in the Highland Christmas romance series. This is a short story, a little over a hundred pages. Caitlin is going to the Scottish Highlands to rescue her friend, but is she the one who actually gets rescued? A good read, beautiful scenery.

The second book to a Highlander Christmas - we still get the magic and beauty of Scotland told with words.

What I liked:
- The Scottish mythology and tales incorporated and more detail into Scottish holiday traditions - this one with a bigger focus on New Years.
- The characters are lovable.
- The story was cute - I liked Caitlin and Angus’ plot.

What I didn’t like:
- The first book we left off with Melissa and Collin in what felt like a rly pivotal moment and it didn’t feel like we picked up where they left off and the end had me feeling like I had way more questions !
- The switching of POVs was a little confusing at times.
- The end - I can’t tell if there is going to be another book. I really hope so because a lot is left undone !

If you are looking for a cozy little meet cute in an adorable setting and you can deal with the author’s writing style, you will enjoy this book. If you like cute romances, but still look for some literary merit, this book probably won’t be what you’re looking for.

I haven’t read any other books in this series and was still able to follow the story line without issue. When one best friend up and moved to Scotland from Boston, her friend decided to meet up with her for a week over the new year.

The story is set near Loch Ness and occurs during a Scottish blizzard. The two friends end up separated and with other people during the blizzard. There is a love story for each of the three main female characters. I just really struggled with the author’s writing style. It seemed forced and there was no flow. It was rather cheesy. Now, some people love this kind of writing and appreciate an easy read. It just wasn’t my favorite.

Such a cute holiday read!! I went to Scotland last year and when I read Highlands Christmas (also by the author) it made me relive all my favorite memories. I loved all the references to Scottish foods & places Melissa visited. When reading Highlands New Year the characters definitely progressed, but I wished it included more of the Scottish warmth I got from the first book. It ends on a cliffhanger though so I’ll be back for the next Highlands holiday book in the series.

The premise of Highlands New Year is so cozy. I was automatically intrigued by a New Year's romance in Scotland. If you like cozy, tropey romance then this just might be the holiday romance for you!

That being said this book was just not for me. I was so excited, but ultimately let down with the lack of character development, unbelievable relationships and excessive exclamation points. I do not think that some of these issues I had will bother everyone, but to me the exclamation marks in particular were distracting and made the story very disjointed.

I do think that there will be a lot of cozy romance lovers out there that will absolutely adore this book. I wish there had been a bit better editing because it had amazing bones.

I picked this book up on a total whim. Honestly, I was on track to finish another book as my first read of the year, but I knew I was going to rate it poorly. Desperate to start the year on a better note, I decided to finish literally anything else first. Even if this turned out to be bad, at least I’d have no expectations going in. Luckily, it ended up being a fairly cute story and a decent way to kick off the year.

First, a heads-up: this book is part of a series, and there’s an ongoing plotline that carries through the books. If you’re like me and have zero interest in reading book one, you can still jump in here and be fine - but you’ll definitely get more out of it by starting the series in order.

The first quarter (maybe more) focuses heavily on Melissa, the woman from the first book, and her developing love story. Caitlin, the new FMC, gets introduced alongside Melissa, and the story spends time building their friendship. In hindsight, it’s a cute concept for a series, but it was surprising and a little hard to get into at first. Most series like this tend to be more loosely connected, so I wasn’t expecting such a continuation.

Now, onto my actual thoughts. This was cute for what it was. There were funny moments, and the atmosphere had a fun vibe. The characters were likeable enough and the relationships were wholesome and sweet.

That said, it’s not the most well-written story I’ve ever read. The plotlines aren’t fully resolved either, since there’s another book to continue the story. While we got enough of an ending for some satisfaction, it doesn’t feel like complete closure.

This is also a clean romance, which I don’t mind, but combined with everything else, it left me feeling like this book didn’t have much impact. (To be honest, if there had been a spicy scene, at least that would’ve given me something memorable to take away from the experience.)

Ultimately, I’m still glad I read this - it’s definitely better as my first official read of the year compared to the other book I finished after. But for anyone else, I’d recommend starting from the beginning and reading the whole series if you want to get the most out of the experience.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! This was such a sweet, cosy, and truly delightful read. It perfectly blends a journey of self-rediscovery with an unexpected romance, all set against the stunning, festive backdrop of the Scottish Highlands.

The story follows Melissa, who is left heartbroken and blindsided when her husband, Dave, announces that he wants a divorce, and the house to himself (my dislike for him started immediately, not going to lie!). Just when everything seems to be falling apart, she receives a letter about an inheritance, a home in Scotland. Desperate for a fresh start, she flies to Edinburgh, and the chaos begins the moment she accidentally meets Colin at the airport. I love romances that start like this!

Colin is a charming Scottish-American lawyer with a very attractive accent, and, as fate would have it, he’s also her husband’s divorce lawyer! Their paths keep crossing, on the flight, the train to Inverness, and again in the very town where Melissa’s new home is located. What are the odds?

I loved how the story immediately sets up the forbidden-romance tension. The way their connection evolves from an awkward, accidental meeting into a genuine partnership is so well done. Colin agrees to help Melissa secure the home she believes she’s entitled to, and as they dive into Scottish life, the sparks fly fast. I found myself grinning and laughing throughout. It’s all about how life’s biggest disasters can lead to the most unexpected, perfect paths, and Amy captures that beautifully.

This book is a fantastic Christmas escape that truly embraces the idea that home is where the heart is. The mix of the beautiful Highlands setting, Melissa’s fresh start, and the fairy-tale charm of a handsome lawyer makes it irresistible. It’s a heart-warming “new life, new love” story, with just the right amount of spice! 🌶️🌶️🌶️

If you’re looking for a romantic, feel-good story about finding where you truly belong (even if it means crossing an ocean), you’ll fall in love with Melissa and Colin’s journey. It’s a wonderful, hopeful read for the winter season.

In this stand-alone sequel to Amy Quick Parish’s novella Highlands Christmas: Wishes Come True, readers are returned to Scotland to revisit Melissa, a recent divorcee who has inherited a home overseas and fallen in love with the Scottish lawyer who handled the dissolution of her marriage. In this installment, Melissa’s friend Caitlin comes to visit for Hogmanay, the Scottish New Year, and the women plan a getaway to the Isle of Skye. When a snow storm interrupts their plans, Melissa is stranded at home with her new love interest (the divorce lawyer Colin), while Caitlin rides out the weather in a cozy inn on the banks of Loch Ness with Colin’s sister Lindsay. There, they meet two rugged Scottish men with connections to Caitlin’s hometown of Boston.

This short novella features three sweet, budding romances set against a wintry Scottish backdrop, and those who love folklore will find delight in its pages. The characters celebrate Burns Night and take part in the Highland Games. They describe the daft days between Christmas and New Year’s and talk of Scottish superstitions and traditions like first footing, a belief that the first visitor to cross your threshold in the New Year sets the tone for months to follow. They plan to visit famous landmarks like the Loch Ness, The Old Man of Stor and The Fairy Glen, and they tell stories of kelpies, selkies, and water horses as they sip whisky around peat-scented fires.

This short book gives readers a bite-sized taste of Scottish culture and a sweet, romantic escape into folklore. If you are looking for a light-hearted reprieve from the holiday bustle, and if you enjoy a man wearing a kilt, Amy Quick Parish’s book Highland New Year is for you!

Highlands New Year leaves off where the first book ended and follows Melissa's best friend, Caitlin. When Caitlin finds out that Melissa intends to stay in Scotland, Caitlin decides to see for herself that her friend is okay. Caitlin is captivated by the sites in Scotland and when a trip on the ice leaves Colins and Melissa stuck at home, she continues her trip with Colin's sister, Lindsey. After a snowstorm prevents the two from going home, they end up staying in the tiny town in the countryside where they steal the last room in the inn from two locals, Angus and Drew. Caitlin soon finds that her and Angus have a lot more in common than both being from Boston.

Highlands New Year was a fun adventure and although the main focus is on Caitlin, the book continues on with the relationship of Melissa and Collin. Melissa is trying to navigate her options for staying in Scotland and dealing with a possible long-distance relationship with Collin. I was glad to see their story continue, and I am excited to see where their relationship will go after the cliffhanger at the end of this book.

Caitlin is such a fun character and I loved her with Angus. I would like for their story to continue on as well in the next book and maybe a possible relationship with Lindsey and Drew. There is a lot of possibilities with the next book after the surprise ending and I am excited to see what will happen next.

Highlands New Year is out now.

Highlands New Year by Amy Quick Parrish was a delightful read that put me in the holiday spirit. Amy Quick Parrish's first book was Christmas-focused, this one is about Hogmanay. If like me you haven't heard of Hogmanay, it is the New Year's celebration in Scotland. This book is a sequel to Highlands Christmas, but could easily be read on its own as much of the first book is touched on in this one. This story is centered on Caitlin Montgomery, Melissa McKenzie's (from the first book) best friend. Caitlin decides to make an impromptu trip to Scotland to check on Melissa and find out what is so special that would have her deciding to move so far from home. Once in Scotland, there is an accident that puts Melissa in the hospital and a snowstorm that leaves Caitlin stranded. Fortunately for Caitlin, she is stuck at a delightful inn where she meets handsome and rugged Angus. The storyline is super cute, but what really made this book special to me was the depiction of Scotland and her people. I love to travel and Scotland is pretty high on my list, but I think after reading these two books, I'm going to have to bump it to the top. I want to experience the magical sounding places (and maybe even see the Loch Ness Monster!) in the story and hear the accents of Scotland. This book is warm and cozy and just perfect for a weekend read where you're cuddled up by the fire. Thanks to the author and Flying Cactus Press for the eARC. All opinions shared are influenced by nothing other than my own reading experience.

Snowy Surprise : Finding Highland Love in the New Year

“Highlands New Year” by Amy Quick Parrish is a delightful winter romance that sweeps you away to the landscapes of the Scottish Highlands. This standalone romance is a sequel to “Highlands Christmas” and it’s really best if you read it first since the story continues from it. The FMC, Caitlin, spontaneously takes a trip to Scotland in order to check on her recently divorced best friend, Melissa. What Caitlin didn’t expect was to find herself on a journey of self discovery, especially when she meets Angus, the bearded handsome musician who steals her heart amidst the cozy firelight and snow laden moors.

The characters, especially Caitlin and Angus, are charming and relatable and Parrish writes a heartwarming and believable romance with a little mystery. Their romance is sweet and slow-burning. The ending, however, may leave some readers wanting more due to some loose ends left hanging.

“Highlands New Year” is delightful winter romance with a touch of magic, perfect for fans of cozy reads and heartwarming happily ever afters.

This is the second novella in the Highlands Christmas trilogy collection, this time featuring Caitlin-Melissa’s best friend from Boston-who comes to visit for New Year’s festivities…only to get snowed in at a local inn after a sudden snowstorm catches her off guard with Melissa’s new Scottish friend, Lindsey. Also snowed-in at the inn are two very handsome Scottish guys and a bunch of tourists. When people start to get bored being shut in, Caitlin and her new friends organize meals, parties, and games to pass the time until roads are cleared.

Like the first novella, there is a ton of Scotland in here as well as snow and wintry weather. These books are easy reading, very festive. The community people and New Year’s Hogmanay parties are so much fun to read about, and I’m curious about what’s up for Melissa and friends in the final installment.

I decided to read this trilogy because I am doing my own little #christmasinjuly challenge, because it’s so hot here in NC this summer. Somehow reading about cool weather and winter holidays really does cool me off, and I’m already dreaming about sweater weather and Christmas decorations.

Many thanks to the author and Flying Cactus Publishing, who allowed me to read a digital copy of this book via NetGalley.

This book is a continuation of the first book in the series, "Highlands Christmas". I do think that it can also be enjoyed as a stand-alone read as well.

The book was a fast and fun read, perfect for readers who want to read a holiday book, but who only have a limited amount of time to read them. It includes Highland traditions at New Year's time, and a snowstorm which is the highlight of the book in my opinion. It would also be a good book for readers to read about New Year's in Scotland.

Overall I enjoyed the book and the cast of characters, but was left hanging a bit at the ending which is why I am giving the book 4 stars. The first book in the series (which I also read) said that there would be a sequel, so in that case I was fine with the cliff hanger ending (knowing that there would be a sequel). This book did not state that there would be a third book in the series so I am not sure if the questions that I had at the end of the book will ever be answered.

Overall I enjoyed it, and I hope that there will be another book coming soon!

Thank you to the author for an advance copy of the book allowing me to share my honest opinion of it!

Thank you NetGalley, Amy Quick Parrish, and Flying Cactus Publishing for giving me the opportunity to review this book! All opinions are my own.

This is a stand-alone sequel to Highlands Christmas-Wishes Come True, however it does pick up where the first left off perfectly! Once Caitlin hears of Melissa’s move to Scotland, she flies out to visit. And what perfect timing as it’s almost Hogmanay (Scottish New Year’s Eve)! They make plans to visit the Isle of Skye, but Melissa and Colin can’t go due to an accident. Instead Colin’s sister, Lindsay, offers to tag along with Caitlin. Unfortunately a big snowstorm forces them to stay the night at a lodge owned by locals Angus and Drew. Did I mention that Angus and Drew are very handsome and charming, as the girls soon find out.

Amy Quick Parrish really transports you to a quaint, snowy Scottish atmosphere with her writing. I really enjoyed the cute, wintery theme with a hint of romance. I do wish there was more Melissa and Colin though, but here’s to hoping that there’s another book eventually!

Pick this up if you want a feel-good, festive read! Out on December 12th!

Highlands New Year is a sequel to the Highlands Christmas - Wishes Come True.

A Highlands New Year is meant as a stand alone and I'd agree, you definitely don't have to have read the first one, but these are sweet novellas with all the Hallmark vibes so you'll definitely want to read both.

In the first book, we are introduced to Melissa MacKenzie, who left her life in America and traveled to Scotland for an inheritance. Melissa ends up finding friendship and romance. In Highlands New Year, Melissa's friend Caitlin is coming to visit over the New Year.

Caitlin finds herself on a huge adventure when a sightseeing tour finds her stranded at an inn during a snowstorm, having befriended a very handsome Scottish man, the two find they have a lot in common and start falling for each other.

This one leaves us on a bit of a cliffhanger. I am looking forward to the next book to find out what happens.

If you are looking for an enjoyable, cozy, short read for over the holidays, I'd definitely recommend this one. It's definitely a book you can devour in one sitting!

I received an advance copy of this book for free, and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.

Caitlin is visiting her friend Melissa who inherited a home in Scotland and decided to move there. Caitlin is excited to see her friend and do some sightseeing with Melissa's maybe boyfriend Colin and his sister Lindsay. After Melissa and Colin get hurt(minor), Caitlin and Lindsay go on without them and end up snowed in at an inn with two handsome Scots(well, one is an now living in America). They enjoy their time snowed in and Lindsay gets the reminder of how much she loves cooking and Caitlin is reminded of how much she loves singing and playing guitar. They finally make their way back to Melissa and Colin and enjoy the holiday together. Caitlin and Angus seem great together and since they both live in Boston, look forward to the future. There's some stuff with Melissa and Colin and Melissa's ex that need resolution, but I'm assuming there will be a follow up. Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC.

Book: Highlands New Year (Highlands Christmas Romance #2)
Author: Amy Quick Parrish
Format: Digital
Genre: Fiction, Romance, Holiday
Places Featured: Inverness (The Highlands), Scotland
Review Score: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ½ (rounded up)
Review: Following Highlands Christmas, in this book, we return to the Highlands and Melissa McKenzie, an American divorcee who unexpectedly inherited a house in the Scottish Highlands and started a relationship with a local barrister. One of her closest friends, Caitlyn, comes to visit her just in time for Hogmanay, Scottish New Year’s. As they set out to explore Scotland, Caitlyn and Melissa’s Scottish friend Lindsay end up stranded in an inn…conveniently with two attractive and friendly Scotsmen and they all make the best of it to bring in the new year. Like the first, it’s a short and sweet novella with fun characters, some romance, and a lot of interesting information about Scotland. And enjoyable holiday read.

- Sweet romance

- Snowed in

- Holiday romance

I loved this quick read which features Caitlin, Melissa's (from Highlands Christmas) best friend from Boston. Caitlin has spontaneously decided to visit Scotland for the New Year. She is delighted with the estate that Melissa has fixed up. The two make plans with Colin's sister Lindsay to do some sightseeing.

But after Colin and Melissa both take a tumble, Caitlin and Lindsay go ahead with the plans that Colin and Melissa will meet up with them after going to the doctor. Caitlin and Lindsay meet the ruggedly handsome Angus and Drew while on a cruise on Loch Ness and hit it off, but a storm leaves them stranded in a cozy inn.

This is such a cute story and I loved catching up with Melissa and Colin. Will Lindsay get a book as well?

This was a cute, light romcom and is book 2 of the Highlands Christmas series—with another installment to come.

While Melissa and Colin from Highlands Christmas are part of the book (and I loved hearing how they are faring), this book centers on Caitlin, Melissa’s BFF, and Lindsay, Colin’s sister.

Caitlin comes to the Scottish Highlands to check in on her BFF. As a side trip before they are to meet Melissa and Colin for a Scottish New Year’s celebration, Caitlin and Lindsay take a boat trip on Loch Ness and then get stranded at a small inn due to a snow storm that causes trees to fall and block the roads.

There they encounter the guys from their boat trip, and some sparks fly. I enjoyed the chemistry and interactions among the characters. This was a short and sweet book!

Thanks to the author, Flying Cactus, and NetGalley for the digital copy in exchange for my opinions
