Conscious Style Home: Eco-Friendly Living for the 21st Century

Rate this book
That is the essence of Danny Seo's Conscious Style philosophy. As a leading environmentalist, Seo believes it doesn't take much time, effort or money to make a difference in the world. It's the small choices we make everyday-from what we wear to what we furnish our homes with-that have a tremendous impact. In this gorgeously illustrated book, Seo describes hundreds of unique, readily available products and easy projects to help you create a comfortable, elegant living space without harming the planet.

In Conscious Style Home , Seo transforms his parents' suburban home. Recycled paint in gorgeous colors brightens the rooms; bamboo blinds allow plenty of natural light; simple white canvas and hemp slipcovers give sofas and chairs a face-lift; recycled glass tiles accent the bathroom; luxurious organic cotton sheets and fluffy comforters stuffed with EcoSpun (made from recycled bottles) make the bedrooms a sanctuary.

So, whether you're planning to paint a wall, re-decorate a cluttered office, plant a garden, re-do the kitchen, or buy a new comforter, Conscious Style Home is an invaluable resource packed with easy projects, creative ideas and suggestions for enhancing your living space, indoors and out.

This sounds shallow, but this book really needed more color pictures. I don't expect to pick up a modern book about the home and see a lot of black and white photos. Maybe black and white photos are more green? I don't care - color photos simply hold my interest better.

Also, wouldn't it be more green to keep you house outdated and ugly rather than replace everything with green, but nonetheless NEW, components? Of course, if you have to replace things, by all means go green. But let's face it - remodeling a home from top to bottom is not environmentally-friendly - this problem is not satisfactorily addressed in this book. I couldn't kick my skepticism about this, and there weren't any beautiful pictures to distract me from said skepticism. I was underwhelmed, to say the least.

Checking annoying books out from the library instead of buying them? That is environmentally friendly. Glad that's what I did here. (Mind you, I never would have bought the book - not enough color pictures!)

This is one of those books I have picked up time and time again, and always find something interesting that jumps out at me...once, it was the lovely color blue that he painted the bathroom ceiling, another time it was the bits of broken terra cotta planters that he used at the end of the blind ropes. And, unlike some of the readers that did not like all the black and white photos, I really enjoyed them.
I try to live a somewhat "green" or "eco-friendly" life, and this book was full of ideas for me.

I'm going to admit that I wanted more from this book. It needed either a better layout or more color pictures, which I'm assuming were kept to a minimum to be "eco" by not using so many dyes.

I found it difficult to just "read" and while I gleaned some interesting tidbits of information, much of the information was just not really effective for actual use. Interesting to see how he changed his parent's house, but then... what?

This is one Danny Seo book I did not care for. It was in black & white and very text heavy. It had some great information in it, but the layout and presentation made it very difficult to want to read more.

I've had this book for a few years, but only really started reading it today. I think it's quite fitting that I bought a book about the Conscious Style philosophy at a second-hand book store.
