Five years ago, Sam pushed Gabriel away because he couldn’t face his own fears about being openly gay in his small hometown. He had another secret too, but he believed no one could help him, not even Gabriel. He took actions that broke Gabriel’s heart, and his own, but then tragedy unexpectedly freed him from the need for secrecy. And Gabriel returned.Gabriel told himself he only wanted to comfort Sam, but in his heart he knew he wanted more. He wanted answers, and he wanted Sam’s love. Just as Gabriel is convincing Sam they can be happy together, events force Sam to reveal all his secrets to his family. These revelations cause all the disharmony Sam always feared, and Gabriel can only hope that this time Sam will realize their love is worth fighting for.
Hmmm..I liked the second chance at love theme. I liked that Sam finally finally was able to come to terms and stand up for himself, even if he was sort of forced in to in my opinion. But jeeze, talk about an evil, vindictive, conniving female..I have a great dislike to those kind of story lines, but at least she wasn't made out to be a horrible mother as well, a small redeeming quality. Gabe was a very forgiving sort and Sam was pretty lucky he came back when he did...
This is a relatively short story and I wished that it was longer. This story is partly about Sam´s decision to leave Gabriel and the reasons he had to make the choices he made. It is a big part of the backstory and in part formed Sam as a person; however, this story is mostly about Sam´s coming out. Gabriel is out and proud, and will not live a life in secret, so if Sam wants a second chance with the love of his life, he has to overcome his fears. It is a very well written story, and it feels like that author has a clear sense of who the characters were before writing their story. There is a lot of emotional build-up, that I feel is resolved a little to quickly.
More pulling of the heart strings please. One of the MC's 4 year old little boy *died* and it was barely a blip on the radar. This was the Cliff's Notes of what could have been a much better read.
