John

It’s common knowledge that Stone men love hard, fast, and forever, only sharing their souls once in a lifetime. I met my ‘one’ when I was a young man, so when I lost her, I also lost myself.
Years later, when new revelations come to light about the circumstances that took her from me, everything changes. Can Elise and I move forward from the betrayal, or is it too late for us?
I’m determined to find out.

Elise

Thirty years ago, lies and manipulation tore me away from the man I loved. I made the best of a heartbreaking situation but still had to watch him live his life with somebody else. Now, at last, the truth is about to come out.
When I tell John Stone my secrets, will he understand the choices I had to make?
One thing is certain... nothing will ever be the same.

This book gave me so much rage and conflicting feelings that I do not know if I enjoyed reading it or if I want to smash my Kindle from frustration.

I am so invested in this series that I started picturing the characters in real life. I am reviewing this as if the story happened and John & Elise went through all that.

But first a disclaimer

I do not read books that glorify the military, especially the US military. Snow/Breaker was different because it showed the negative impact of war and how the system fck up their soldiers. For Stone, I had to remind myself that the story took place more than 30 years ago. When people still saw the US as the Halo of Democracy and ate the shit they spewed in the media. Their military was a beacon of hope internally and externally. OH how the tide has changed!!!!
So reading the glorified way John Stone saw the Marines and the high pedestal he put them on was in a way a testament of how much people at that time were doped by Uncle Sam.
Even when John remarked that "The good ol' U.S of A likes its oil, and anybody who gets in the way of it will get themselves in some shit", there is no doubt that this is a Military book

However, this did not affect my rating in any shape or form.
It is about the characters and the story

So here goes

⚜Genre: MC Romance
⚜Theme: Light-dark Military romance
⚜Targeted audience: Adults
⚜Characters: Speed Demons, John Stone, Elise
⚜Representation: minor POC characters
⚜TW: DA, SA, Trafficking, violence, rape, war, child kidnapping
⚜ tropes: first love
⚜ POV: double first person
⚜ spice 🌶🌶 surprisingly for a 467 pages, very few spice scenes
⚜ rating 🌟🌟🌟
⚜standalone: No, duet Dagger coming soon
⚜Ending: setting the mood for the next book

For me, the story itself was good and not something you could put down
This is a book showing how the consequences of your actions and bad decisions sooner or later come to bite you in the ass and haunt your life
The world of the MC is not just tough, it is brutal
it is a world within a world full of loyalty and betrayal
love and hate
misogyny and redemption
MC romance books are definitely not for feminists :)

We first meet John and Elise's story in Colt
Elise is John's first and childhood one true love
severe circumstances tore them apart for over 30 years
This book is their origin story

I also felt that the first 60% of the book was stretched out to the point of boredom. I was like "ok, enough with John and Elise, they love each other, let's see something else...Like why was this Robert hung up on Elise? why was he obsessed? The last 40% had so many actions but were rushed that I felt whiplashed.

What fell short for me was how the characters were presented

Elise is this all-holy of the holiest picture-perfect all-American town sweetheart girl who is loved by all for some reason but not accepted by the MC. She forgives John so easily for every single fuck up he does because she "is not like the other girls" who whine and bitch and overreact. She is the supportive and considerate girlfriend who is there for her man every step of the way. And even when she time and time again confronts John of how he prioritizes his needs always over hers, she forgives and forgets because she loves him so much.
With John, we get Robert Henderson who is obsessed with Elise for reasons??? Maybe he saw how complacent she was and thought she was the perfect woman/wife for his plans.

Meanwhile, John is taking advantage of Elise's love.
I never liked John/Dagger in the other books
He was an asshole
to his boys
to his girl
to the old ladies
and my dislike was cemented in COLE!!!!
he came off as self-centered and selfish
and this book just proved my point

No matter how hard he tried to justify himself that he sees the world in "black and white, he is the SOB "son of Bandit" that is, a bigger bastard.

I don't think he loved Elise enough
everything was about him, him, him
his needs and his plans and what he wanted.

You've heard of a Mommy's boy? John is your typical MC Daddy's boy
and I blame him and his discisions for the fucked up life Elise had
He did not protect her
He may have appeared to, but he didn't
He thrust this innocent 18 year old in the MC world expecting her to be fine and dandy
and when he saw how everyone were treating her, he did not take any action to ease her into the life
on the contrary, he threw fuel into the fire

But what really threw me off, and lowered a star from 4 to three, is how Elise ended up apologizing over and over for John!!!!!!!!! no, just no

I know I am writing with so much rage because I was. I am so angry with John, so sad for Elise
that if book 2 is not a validation for her and a good grovel, it will definitely be the end for me with the Speed Demons

One heck of a journey

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: Prequel story
Angst: 😱😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥

The love story I've been waiting for almost since the beginning. I knew it was going to be an emotional roller coaster ride and Jules did not disappoint. Be prepared for all the tissues, lol. Dagger simply cannot be here fast enough 🙈.

As a side note, I want to recognize the attention to detail and research that was obviously done to make the military info as realistic as possible. It's appreciated by those of us who can tell the difference. 😘

This book was one heck of a journey. I knew it was going to be another emotional one knowing that it was the backstory of John/Stone and Elise.

Jules Ford is able to write in a way that captivates the reader from the beginning of the book. She pulls you in so much that you are invested for those characters. You feel every emotion that the characters are feeling. You take a journey into the web of lies, deception, manipulation and blackmail that ruined years of the love Stone and Elise had for each other is incredibly despairing. You are able to hit every spectrum of emotion while reading this book.

The amount of times I wanted to strangle not only Stone but Bandit many times. The fact is as much as the two main characters loved each other, Stone basically threw Elise to the wolves and left her with very little support. I get during those days the club was different but still, more could have been done to not have Elise basically left out to dry.

A lot of the decisions he made, he made them without confirming with Elise who was supposed to be his partner- which lead to more times I wanted to knock him upside the head.

All in all it was a great read and let us understand the relationship between the two of them better and why a lot of their choices were made. I will be jumping right into Dagger to finish off the Speed Demons MC because I absolutely need to know what happens between them now. Especially knowing what we now know about each of these characters.

As usual author Jules Ford has knocked it out of the park with this sensational novel ‘Stone’ I absolutely loved Stone (Dagger) and Elise’s (Duchess) story ❤️❤️❤️ Its unbelievably sad what a web of lies, deception, manipulation and blackmail can do to ruin years of a soul absorbing love and a life that should have been theirs. This book had me absorbed into the pages, not able to stop once I started as the revelations of their loss became apparent with every page I turned. This is a must read. Very entertaining. I cannot wait for Dagger’s book to be released. 100% recommend this book to everyone ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ you will not be disappointed 😎

***Received an ARC for my honest review ***

Wowwww.......... I don't have words to describe what I've just read. Stone and Elise's book was absolutely AMAZING.

A lot happened since John (Stone) left for the Marines and they both had to overcome a lot of bad things happening in their lives afterwards.

You get all the feels, heartbreaking moments, friendships, betrayal, a love between two people that just cannot be broken even if they have not been together in thirty years. It's a love that nothing in this world could break. It's so deep. All I can say is be prepared, it's a soul crushing kind of read.

Can't wait to read Dagger's book.

Never really liked Stone and still don’t, but his dad and the MC were even worse. Didn’t realize this was a first parter. Too long and too many military flashbacks.

In addition to being a selfish ass, who is easily manipulated by his shit head of a dad, he’s also clueless. This is when Elise tells him what happened when she went to the clubhouse to tell Stone’s dad she was pregnant-

“I went to Bandit,” I bit out. “He put a gun to my head,” I tapped my temple, “right there. Then, he told me if I hadn’t left the compound by the time he counted to ten, he’d put a bullet in my brain. I drove Bessie there, and he made me leave her, said I’d taken enough pieces of you, so he made damned sure it was him who took away the last piece of you from me.” John’s eyes widened. “He wouldn’t—”

“Then he fired,” I cut in. “Missed my head by an inch. I felt the wind from the bullet, the whizzing sound as it passed me; it was so close.” I leaned forward. “I was pregnant, John,” my voice rose to a shriek, “I was fucking pregnant.” He shook his head from side to side, shock sliding across his features. “That club is evil,” I spat. “Those men are evil. What decent woman would want to be a part of that hellhole? What decent woman would step foot inside those gates? What decent woman would raise a child, a daughter, amongst those demons?” I looked him in the eye and jutted my chin up. “I wouldn’t let my dog live there, let alone a daughter. The only honorable person left is Iris, and mark my words, it won’t take long for them to chew her up and spit her out,” my face twisted, “they’re disgusting pigs; they’re animals, and no decent woman should be subjected to them.”

Later in the book, Iris fills in some details from that day-

“They threw rocks at her, John,” Iris whispered. “She was leaving, and they threw rocks at her back, said it’s okay ‘cause they stoned whores to death in the Bible. She fell to her knees, pregnant, and they said it was the best place for a whore.”

Nice that they’ll finally get together but I kind of don’t want Stone to get an HEA. Maybe Elise could hook up with Tucker instead…

WOOOOW

If you haven’t read any of these Speed Demon MC books then this is a spoiler review, beware lol.

Where do I even start?
I was nervous throughout most of this book, mainly waiting for the how, what, when, where that separated Elise & John, all the while being somewhat sad that Adele was not his one. Duchess was clearly a beautiful soul, there was no doubt how much she loved John & she knew no doubt how much he loved her but man to think the universe sometimes has different plans for us than what we imagine.
It is bitter sweet to think how brutally heart breaking it is that they were torn apart and I wish Elise had of told Connie or even Iris sooner about her pregnancy but had they had not been split, we wouldn’t of had Cash, Bowie, Breaker & Freya, like I said brutally heart breaking and bitter sweet.
The realisation of why John was adamant he didn’t want Freya with a biker left me open mouthed for a whole minute! Makes total sense but as we seen previously he lost his daughter because he couldn’t let it go. I am just grateful that with the Virginia Chapter coming that we’ll get to see glimpses of Colt & Freya still.

Anyways, in walks Adele & sheesh, I just love her so much, a nut but another beautiful soul! John Stone the lucky bugger got blessed with 2 incredible women, some don’t even get the 1 lol

This was a great look into John Stone, he won my heart in this, boy I’m looking forward to Dagger & I’m guessing the reunion of family & true, soul ripping, heart shredding love. Can’t wait!

Thank you Jules x

This book takes you on a wild ride of emotions, let me tell you. We follow John Stone, a guy who's been carrying the weight of losing his soulmate, Elise, for thirty long years. Their love story was shattered by lies and manipulation, and now, finally, the truth is peeking its head out of the shadows.

John's determination to uncover the truth and Elise's struggle with her past choices make for some seriously intense moments. You'll find yourself rooting for them, feeling their pain, and hoping against hope that they find their way back to each other.

Jules Ford doesn't hold back in showing the messy, real side of relationships. John and Elise feel like people you could meet on the street, not just characters on a page. Their flaws make them relatable, and their love makes you believe in second chances.

Plus, Ford's writing is just beautiful. She paints scenes with such detail that you feel like you're right there with the characters, experiencing everything alongside them.

Overall, "Stone" is a heart-wrenching, yet ultimately hopeful, story about love, loss, and redemption. It'll have you hooked from the first page until the very end, and you'll be thinking about it long after you've finished. So, if you're in the mood for a rollercoaster of emotions, buckle up and dive into "Stone." You won't regret it.

Emotional ride

The past is a hard thing to live with and every decision has a outcome do you go left or do you right do I say yes or no and with each choice the future is changed it is also said if you want to make God laugh tell him your plans and this is true for John and Elise this is the prequel to the speed demons books and it also makes you understand John aka daggers reactions in colts book. The story of John and daggers story is well written and has you on emotional rollercoaster meeting the younger versions of the parents to those we meet in the other books especially John's parents connie and bandit, bandit is a crazy man and a lot of his actions made things so much worse and could of helped and made things so different and the outcome of Elise and John's lives so different but Bandit was also going though his own grief. I enjoyed the book and hope daggers book gives us the HEA John and Elsie need and want. Thanks Jules Ford for another great book

JOHN & ELISE

I’ve been a huge Jules Ford (& the SPEED DEMONS) fan since I first picked up BOWIE, and for me, SNOW is THE book. By any author in any genre. If you have read it, you’ll know what I mean. If you haven’t, I highly recommend it, despite some graphic scenes.

STONE surpasses it.

And that is hard to do.

Stone (or Dagger as he is later known by) has been in all the previous books, as he should be as he is the President of the SPEED DEMONS MC. This book takes us back to before he became leader, back when he was about to enlist in the Marines, and his arduous journey from recruit to being honorably discharged, to coming home, to becoming President.

All while navigating the ups and downs of being a young man in love with his Duchess, Elise (Leesy).

This story hits all available emotions – angst, humor, fury, love, sadness, disgust, horror, and triumph. And this is only the first book! Book 2 (DAGGER) cannot come fast enough.

I love how John Stone is with his family. Even his grandkids who is not of his blood. As everyone can see in the first books. I am still upset about his treatment of his daughter Freya. I am sure things will work out. I fell in love with character early on. Now onto Stone, be prepared to laugh, love and cry. When you think you are all cried out you cry some more. This book was more than amazing. I really think this book meant more to me than any book I have read. I am sure the next one will also. There were so many times I wanted to scream and throw my tablet. I would gladly have taken Bandit out. Throughout this whole book I didn't like him. I am patiently waiting for the next book to come out.

Fire! This book is F-I-R-E!

Jules Ford is one of the most talented writers I have had the privilege of reading! First of all, this book is so damn good. It is packed with back story and ties a lot together. The first 6 books of this series are, although stand-alones, needs to be read to get to this one. This is a world once you start you can not put it down. Learning the backstory of John and Elise is gut wrenching. Seeing how they got to where they are now, seeing the characters come together that you meet in the first 6 books is jaw-dropping. All I can say is you will not regret one minute that you live in Jules Fords Speed Demon MC. Don’t put this on your TBR….just start reading. You will not regret it!

Another great story by Jules Ford. It took me a little longer to start this one because I knew once I opened it, Jules was going to put me through the wringer. And like always, she did. You're going to understand so much about Dagger and Elise by the time you're through. I'll warn you though, be prepared to cry, curse out loud, hurt, feel agony, and get pi$$ed off and want to break things.
You're also going to feel the brave heart of a woman who would walk through hell and back for those she loved.
If you're new to Jule's work, they're not just stories. They're experiences you will feel down to your soul.
Oh, and you might wanna stock up on your tissues.

Heartbreakingly Beautiful❤😢

John and Elise
Where do I begin? Their story is filled with love, laughter, hardship, heartbreak and people who will do anything to keep them apart. I knew when I started reading this book, it was going to be an emotional ride and it definitely exceeded what I thought it would be. I've read the entire series and this is the best of them so far. I recommend reading the previous books before this one to have a better understanding of all the characters. Well written and a hell of a story. I've cried my eyes out with this one. Thank you Jules!

Great book

I absolutely loved this book. I cried and laughed and wanted to jump in the book and hurt someone. This book is about love and hurt and loving your one and only forever. Even though they go through so much they still love each other even though they have had others and children by others. This book keeps you on your toes and talks about war and being a Marine and how much they go through. If you have not read any books by this author you are missing out as she is a great author, love all of her books and can't wait until the next one.

This book was an emotional journey, causing at least a dozen emotions from beginning to end.

Stone takes us back to where it all began. One of the things that I love and respect about Jules is that she isn't afraid to put the words she feels down on the page. This was not an easy story... parts of it were beautiful and parts were heartbreaking and hard to read. But what a fantastic job she did with this book!

Like many other readers, I have a bit of a book hangover and am so ready for Dagger's story.

Wow ........

I put off reading this book until Dagger was released, but I caved and damn what an emotional rollercoaster it's been, I kept wanting to put it in the freezer like Joey did on Friends but couldn't because I read it on the app on my phone.
John and Elise's story has had me in bits in parts and broken my heart over and over. I love how this book brought the whole story of how the Speed Demons 😈 became who they are now and everything leading up to where the story need to be. I CAN'T WAIT FOR DAGGER.

John Stone ‘Dagger’ is the handsome and tough Prez of the Speed Demons that we have got to know well throughout the series, but what happened 30 years ago when his soulmate walked out of his life?

We are taken on a journey back in time when young John and Elise are teenagers in love with their future together all planned out and what events took place to break their hearts.

Hold on tight for a story that is full of action, drama, deception, betrayal, evil deeds and heartache.
It’s a gripping read, you may need tissues and want to dive into the next book.

Stone by Jules Ford

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️️

After the series of seeing John in the background of the stories it was great to finally start to see his own history.

You could tell there was more to his and Elise in the past and this book takes jump into the past to revist how their relationship developed.

It makes me want to jump straight into the next book to see exactly what will be happening with them in the present. As they have had such a hard time I just want them to get there happily ever after.

Jules Ford is a beast

The Speed Demons series is not just an MC romance series. These stories tell tales of great love, love lost and how the world gets in the way. Life can be so ugly, so gritty and yet the strong find a way to persevere. Elise is amazing. I would be locked up somewhere with all that she has endured. And before this book, John was non important. You could not see his soul. This book has shown his character and my heart breaks for both Elise and him. Can't wait for the end of their story Thank you Jules Ford....another masterpiece.

3.5 … All I got out of this is that I want to read Dagger. Roll on Dagger’s story! I hope Duchess ends up with some awesome and not Dagger…like Tucker.

John is married with another child so hopefully he works it out with his wife Adele and Elise gets an amazing story instead of Dagger after her husband Robert gets his karma😬

30 years lost years…put me off….BUT…I went there anyway because I liked the other books in this series.

Loving hard, fast, and forever does not always end in a hea... John and Elise are that couple. John has been my favorite from book 1 and I couldnt wait to read their story. A rollercoaster of emotions later and I am still reeling over this book! Going in the service started alot of things in this book and the actions of how the couple react to them. You better get you some tissues ready and be prepared for the sad, happy, funny, and tragic story of John and Elise! Cannot wait for next book!

This book was so good, I dont even know how to put it into words. If you haven't read the first six books in the series, you need to, because it will tie everything together. Reading about John & Elise's beginning was heart wrenching to say the least, but it made everything make so much more sense. The storyline was captivating, angsty, & just mind-blowing. I loved how all of the characters were a part of it. Jules Ford is a mastermind when it comes to reeling you in & leaving you wanting more.

I’m a big fan of this series and I really enjoyed taking a look back at John’s past. It was emotional in places, angered me in places, and had me swooning places. Elise was a great character, though would it be terrible to admit I liked Adele even more? 😬 As John says, she’s a nut!

I am however excited for the next (and final 😭) book in the series, to see how the ongoing storyline plays out, and to see John and Elise get their long overdue happily ever after.

good but…

A good read that is dragged on a bit too much in my opinion. We start with Eloise coming to in hospital with dagger and then we relive every moment of their lives some which was was so drawn out I ended up skipping. The more relevant aspect was towards the end of the book which ends on a cliffhanger. Quite frankly I’d rather have just had the present story without all the saga drawn out. Was good in certain bits but…
