Veiled Scars

Rate this book
History was not a block of clay to be molded. It was a story to be preserved.

After a failed escape leaves her trapped in the past with a broken time machine, Adelaide Anson realizes the depth of the Red Rose Society’s deceit. Lost, injured, and on the run, she and her companions must navigate early 1940s Asheville, NC to find a way back home. As Adelaide’s connection to the past grows stronger, blurring the lines of reality, insidious secrets come to light, forcing her into a race against time to solve the clues her mother left behind.

The deeper she delves, the harder it becomes to discern the sleight of hand from the truth. Every secret casts a shadow, and as old phantoms recall to life, she is faced with a vault of answers demanding a steep price. When Adelaide’s search entwines with threads from Teo’s past, she’ll have to lean on those around her in order to confront the broken pieces of herself. Can she reconcile her scars to uncover what her mother died to protect, or will the cost of the truth shatter her?

Veiled Scars is the second volume in The Timewalker Archives, a young adult historical fantasy series perfect for fans of NBC’s Timeless and Alyson Noël’s Stealing Infinity.

This was phenomenal. I can’t think of a more fitting word. I have been so excited to read what happened next and devoured this. I squealed at the end of Chapter One and the emotional roller coaster didn’t stop there.
Veiled Scars is packed with action and adventure so buckle up and settle in-it’s gonna be good. The vivid and emotional writing made history come alive on page and the end had me gasping!
I loved all the angst and banter between Tio and Adelaide and that we really start to see Tio for the man he is underneath all of that mobster bravado. Adelaide’s mysterious abilities push her to her breaking point but I loved seeing her persevere.
When I say I can’t wait for the next book I mean I CANNOT WAIT. So if you need me I’ll just be over here living in bookish turmoil.

Veiled Scars picks up right after book one ended, and I was instantly sucked back into the story.

I loved the dynamic between Adelaide & Teo, and their banter was so amazing! I could have melted when he taught her to fight so she could protect herself.

The time travel was such an integral and intriguing part of this story, and I loved getting to see a glimpse into the lives of historical figures, and women in particular.

The plot twists kept coming, and they kept me turning the pages, because I just needed to know what happened next. But the cliffhanger ending, with Teo's reaction to what had happened, had me wishing for more!

This book picks up right after the events of the last book with Teo, Kolt and Adelaide on the run for the Red Rose Society. They end up in the past and find a treasure hunt that will hopefully help Adelaide with her new found abilities. This book gave me major Timeline meets Librarians vibes and I totally loved it. it Checks all the boxes my history loving geek heart needed. Ends on a cliff hangar so I’ll just be hanging out till the next book 😊

I love a good time travel book, and I appreciate the research this author did. The story is compelling, and I looked forward to reading it. Adelaide is great FMC, balancing between being vulnerable and strong. I adore Teo and enjoyed seeing more of his life and his relationship with Adelaide. I wish the traces fit better into the main plot line, and I wish we would have found out more about Adelaide's mom's secret. It ends on another big cliffhanger.

Another setting where I want to visit the Biltmore. Capturing fragments of time and new adventures in history where a Time Machine is broken. Will she get closer o finding out her secret genetic mystery or get captured by the red rose society?
