I was completely drawn into Gek’s world from the very first chapter. The story mixes classic fantasy elements with fresh twists dragons, magic, and a clash between humans and mythical creatures. Gek’s journey of learning, growing, and facing his fears felt authentic and engaging, and the relationship with his grandfather Ard was surprisingly touching. I also appreciated that Donovan wasn’t just a villain; his motivations and struggles added real depth to the story. The world-building is rich without being overwhelming, and the ending left me eager for the next installment. A captivating read for any fantasy lover.
This book popped up on Wowbrary, the library's listing of new books available for loans, and it sounded promising, so I chose it. When it arrived, the sticker in the front indicated it was a copy donated by the author. It was a debut novel, published by the author.
Uh oh. New writer, self-published, had to give it to the library to get it out there. This can't be good. Another teenybopper saga about chasing a dragon. Sigh
It's not good. It's excellent. Happy surprise! A mature novel, complicated plot lines and characters, a very enjoyable read. It reminded me of novels by Robert Jordan, Anne McCaffrey, or Mercedes Lackey.
I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for his next book(s). Also for the author himself since I also live in Northern Virginia...
This book gave me all the classic fantasy feels magic, dragons, and the struggle between worlds but with a surprisingly emotional core. Gek’s search for his father hit me harder than I expected. I loved how the author showed his growth, from a scared boy to a dragon who understands the meaning of honor and heritage. Some parts of the story moved a little slowly for me, but the payoff was worth it. The themes of identity, revenge, and understanding across differences were powerful. A solid fantasy debut that feels both old-school and fresh at the same time.
I came across The Honor of Dragons through a book club recommendation and ended up enjoying it far more than I expected. Gek’s journey is emotionally grounded, and the relationship with his grandfather adds real depth to the story. I also appreciated the dual perspective with Donovan, which brought complexity instead of a simple good-versus-evil conflict. The world feels thoughtfully built, and the tension between humans and dragons develops in an engaging, believable way. A solid fantasy read that sparked some great discussion in our group
This book took me on a thrilling ride I didn’t expect. I loved following Gek’s journey as he discovers his powers, confronts challenges, and navigates complicated relationships. The story has heart as well as action, and the tension between dragons and humans feels believable and nuanced. Some parts felt a little fast-paced, but overall, the adventure and emotional depth more than make up for it. I can see this being a favorite for teens and adults who love dragons, magic, and epic fantasy
The Honor of Dragons surprised me with how emotionally grounded it was. Yes, there’s magic, dragons, and battles, but at its core, it’s about identity, family, and belonging. Gek’s training sequences were some of my favorite parts, and Ard is easily one of the most memorable mentor characters I’ve read in a while. The political tension with the humans added a nice layer of realism. A strong start to what feels like a promising series.

Gek's story is the heart of the book. Watching him train with his grandfather, Ard, learning to fly and use fire, was fantastic. The author made the dragon culture feel ancient and real.
I liked the contrast with Donovan's arc at the Wizards Academy. His revenge plot gives the human side real stakes, and the theme of prejudice driving the conflict is very relevant.
This book was pure adventure from beginning to end! I loved the world, the lore, and especially the way the author explored dragon culture. Gek’s development was satisfying to follow, and Donovan’s storyline added the right amount of tension and complexity. It felt like a classic fantasy tale with a modern heart.
What stood out to me most was the atmosphere of this book. The forests, the hidden dragon world, the Wizards Academy everything felt vivid and alive. Gek’s journey had both action and emotional weight, and the tension between humans and dragons made for a compelling backdrop. Robert Jones has a talent for painting scenes that stay with you long after you stop reading.
As a fantasy reader, I appreciated how this book balanced world-building, character development, and pacing. The lore around the dragons was well thought out, and the human-dragon conflict had more nuance than I expected. Donovan’s arc added a strong moral dimension, and Gek’s growth felt natural and believable. A solid fantasy novel that both younger and older readers can enjoy.
Really enjoyed this one! Gek is a relatable and brave character, and the mix of dragons, magic, and adventure kept me hooked. I loved how the story explored both sides of the conflict, with interesting characters on every side. Definitely a book I’d recommend to anyone who loves epic fantasy
Good story with a lot of heart. I enjoyed learning about the dragons and watching Gek grow into his abilities. The dual storyline with Donovan kept things interesting. Definitely worth reading if you like magic, fantasy worlds, and coming-of-age tales.
Gek is such a compelling protagonist. I loved watching him struggle, fail, learn, and rise again. His bond with Ard carried so much emotional weight, and even Donovan’s storyline while darker felt grounded and believable. A character-driven fantasy that still delivers plenty of action.
What I appreciated most about this book is how it tackles prejudice and misunderstanding. The conflict between humans and dragons isn’t just “good vs evil” it’s about fear, history, and choices. The Wizards Academy arc was a highlight for me. Thought-provoking and adventurous.
This was a fun read. Not overly complicated, but full of cool magic, dragons, and some emotional moments too. I liked following both Gek and Donovan and seeing how their paths were destined to collide. Easy to recommend to fantasy fans.
I wasn’t expecting the grandfather–grandson dynamic to hit me so hard, but it did. Ard is such a wise, gentle presence, and I found myself smiling every time he was on the page. The story blends adventure with a surprising amount of heart. Loved it.
The author really excelled at creating a believable world. The forest scenes, the dragon heritage, the Academy, even the King’s oblivious court all felt alive. I could easily picture every setting. If you enjoy rich worlds that still feel grounded, this book is for you.
Fast-paced and exciting! There was always something happening training sequences, magical lessons, confrontations, and surprising twists. I never felt bored, and the final chapters had me glued to the page. A great mix of story and action.
I loved this book so much!! The dragons were awesome, and Gek’s powers were so cool to follow. The story felt epic but easy to read, and I REALLY want to see what happens next. Definitely one of the best fantasy reads I’ve picked up this year.
This book moves! From Gek escaping danger to Donovan’s training at the Academy, every chapter pushes the story forward. I appreciated how the author balanced quieter emotional moments with intense action. A really satisfying adventure.
Fantasy isn’t my usual genre, but this book surprised me. The story was easy to follow, and the characters felt real enough to keep me invested. I especially liked the themes of heritage and forgiveness. A pleasant and rewarding read.
I enjoyed how the story showed both sides of the conflict. Gek learning to master his powers and Donovan wrestling with revenge made for a great contrast. The author handled the dual storyline very well. It made the world feel more real and layered.
I stayed up way too late reading this! The chapters are short and addictive, and the story pulls you along effortlessly. I kept saying “just one more chapter” until I finished the whole thing. Highly recommended.
I appreciated how the author balanced multiple perspectives. Seeing the story through both Gek and Donovan gave a moral depth that made the human-dragon conflict feel real. Smart and engaging writing.
I actually picked this up after our fantasy book club suggested it, and wow I wasn’t expecting to get so invested. Gek’s story is heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time. The grandfather-grandson bond is really touching, and the dragon lore is super well done.
I didn’t expect to feel so connected to a dragon! Gek’s story isn’t just about adventure it’s about loss, family, and discovering who you are. I laughed, I cheered, and I even got a little teary.
From forest escapes to magical duels, this book keeps the pace up from start to finish. The dragons are fascinating, and I loved the combination of magic and flying sequences. A thrilling ride.
