Death is inevitable. Whimsy Whitman knows this all too well. She was born with the uncontrollable ability to empathically feel how anyone in proximity to her will die. The unfortunate curse has left her homebound, depressed, and isolated from her worried family. It’s also a secret she vows to take to her grave after the sadistic psychologist, Dr. Goodrich, in whom she’d once confided, had her institutionalized and torturously tested ten years ago.
When Whimsy’s split-second decision to venture outside her self-imposed captivity goes horribly awry, the fallout brings Dr. Goodrich bombarding back into her life, along with a slew of terror-induced psychic visions all demanding she run. Now the girl who’s terrified of crowds, physical contact, and unfamiliar territory is driving a stolen car to New York City with the small hope of finding the secret to controlling her empathic abilities.
When a serendipitous meeting with handsome Beck Hollis opens her eyes to the world outside her anxieties, she thinks her life is finally changing for the better. She soon learns that the limited confines of her childhood home were the only barrier keeping her true power contained. Stranded in the most crowded city in the country and able to feel how every single one of the thousands of occupants near her will die, she knows the tragedy about to destroy them all. Now it’s a race to see how many deaths can be cheated before her own time runs out.
I enjoyed this book. It was interesting enough that I re ad it from front to back without a break. As the story begins, Whimsy is livin g a very isolate And un gratifying life. She decides To take a chance And explore life on her own terms. She leaves Tennessee for New York city And soon meets a companion. They are drawing to 1 another. For the 1st time, Whimsy Experiences Life on a normal scale When Beck Is with her. She has always been odd as she has the uncanny ability to sense The way persons will die. It is nice to root for Whimsy. Odd experiences Will plagueHer As she maneuvers in her new freedom and Beck Has struggles of his on dealing with The realization she has told him the truth of her past life. Together they will Test there bond And Belief in one another. I look forward to book to in this series.
This book made me feel lots of things! I wanted to cry many times, and I love that in a book. There are lots of scenes describing death, so if you’re not into that I would stay away from this book, otherwise it was a great read!
This story kept me captivated from beginning to end. Whimsy's Curse features romance, paranormal, science fiction and dramatic elements. There's something for everyone, honestly. I'm not big on romance novels and while the story between Whimsy and Beck is the heart of the novel, it doesn't take over completely. The way Michelson describes the moments Whimsy uses her power makes you feel like you're going through the motions with her. It's been awhile since I've read a book so well written and with the ability to make me feel so many different emotions. I highly recommend it!
I absolutely loved this book. Whimsy and Beck are such a lovable characters and their whirlwind story just sucks you in. My only gripe is thoughts not being italicized, which made me re-read sentences multiple times to process that things were not being said aloud but instead to themselves.
**I received a copy of this book in a Goodreads Giveaway but it did not influence my opinion in any way.
I definitely enjoyed this book. It was unexpected, as I didn't really know what it was going to be about. I enjoyed getting to know Whimsy and all of her "quirks". I will absolutely be reading book 2 when it comes out.
I loved this book! I couldn’t put it down and really wished there was more to read right away! I can’t wait for the next book to be released this winter. I will say, I wish there was more explanation concerning the connection between Whim and Beck but I’m hoping that’s coming in the next book. Can’t wait to see where this story goes next!
I thought the idea of this book was going to be interesting - the fact that a woman can predict death but when reading the book it went more in-depth into it. She cannot only just predict it but she feels it to the point of when it makes you pass out. So Whimsy now pretty much has agoraphobia in order to avoid her "episodes."
What I also didn't realize about this book is it's mainly a romance novel with an itty bitty bit of fantasy due to her "power" and also a coming-of-realization type book. Personal growth would be a good description!
Whimsy's character - I freaking love her, she is super witty and pretty much carries a good personality even with her curse. Then the boy she meets... I mean perfect chemistry and honestly he is the sweetest of sweets. They are perfect and the friendship and love between them is just magical. The ending has some suspense which is nice and even some tension.
Overall a really great book!! There are some area's that leave some details out but I believe there is a second book coming this year so hopefully it will dive more into that topic!
