Out of the Shadows: My Life Inside the Wild World of Hunter Biden

Rate this book
The tell-all memoir of Lunden Roberts's tumultuous relationship with Hunter Biden.

“He was sitting there wearing nothing but parrot boxer briefs, organizing his crack pipes on his Rosemont Seneca desk, with the Obama’s senate seat behind him, and I thought, this is definitely a guy I want to get to know better.”
That was the first time Lunden Roberts met Hunter Biden. She had come to DC from Arkansas to escape the yoke of her mother’s overbearing expectations. Hunter radiated the “live-for-the-moment” energy she sought. What followed from that first meeting was a wild journey that would come to define Lunde’s young life in ways she never could’ve from cooking crack in the kitchen of Rosemont Seneca, to strip clubs where Hunter was the one on the pole, to stories that make the laptop debacle seem every day, to giving birth to the grudgingly acknowledged grandchild of the sitting President of the United States.
When a hailstorm of media hit, painting Lunden as a stripper and one-night stand, Lunden retreated to Arkansas to live in the shadows. She’s ready to set the record straight. Her book is a sweetly raw, tell-all memoir of the crazy year she met and dated Hunter, and the chaotic, secret life that followed of mothering and protecting the nation’s first granddaughter.

This book was interesting to read since it involved a public scandal. I felt that the author glossed over some of her own mistakes, which is her right to do in her own memoir. I also found it strange that she continuously defended Hunter Biden after he repeatedly ignored her, denied knowing her, and fought to lower child support.

Here’s a question for the author: What did you expect? The night you met him and went upstairs, the very first thing you saw him doing was line up crack pipes. Not. One. PLURAL. And he was married and whatever else.

When people show you who they truly are, believe them the first time.

Come on, honey. Did you really think this man was marriage material and someone who was going to actually parent a child with you?

That all being said, this was a very entertaining read.

It was heartbreaking to see the media drag Lunden through the dirt during this entire ordeal. I’m so glad she got to tell her side of her story.

Being strongly anti-Biden, I wanted to read this book, by the former girlfriend of Hunter Biden who bore his daughter, to enhance my dislike of the Bidens. It did that, but truthfully, the story is not that simple, nor can this woman, Lunden Roberts, be viewed as a victim or any better than Hunter.

The story begins with her leaving her home state of Arkansas to go to DC. She has an education and career plan that are actually quite reasonable and sensible. I went to DC myself as a young man, and did well professionally and educationally. But Lunden went down the wrong path and it was as much her fault as Hunter's.

She comes into contact with Hunter and from the very first encounter realizes he is a serious drug addict. But instead of immediately going the other way, she becomes enamored of his money, lifestyle, and becomes another shallow DC "party girl" more interested in parties and money and a lavish lifestyle than focusing on her education and career. Her education soon goes by the wayside. Some of what she writes is appalling and hard to believe. Not only does she accept Hunter's drug addiction, she quickly becomes aware he is seeing other females--including his dead brother's wife-- yet she tolerates this too, in the process demeaning herself, all to pursue the life of party and money.

She becomes pregnant, and actually seems shocked drug addict Hunter, already beguiled by various criminal investigations, abandons her. It's not clear why she would want an out of control drug addict under criminal investigation in her life, let alone an infant's. Not able to party anymore she goes home to Arkansas and tries to hide who the baby's father is-- which in her more conservative area, just makes her look like a tramp.

Living in an area very pro-Trump and very hostile to Joe Biden she tries to hide her newborn child's identity-- a hopeless task. Hunter Biden at first questions paternity--and she pretends to be appalled--but given her being one of many of his party girls, it's hardly unreasonable for him to have not believed she slept around too. Eventually though DNA proves he is the father but still he wants nothing to do with the child and fights responsibility. Given the proof of paternity via DNA this makes the whole Biden family look awful.

Eventually she fights and gets a $3000 a month child support payment--which seems totally reasonable--given her living in lower cost Arkansas and that child support should represent only half the cost of raising the child. But then the book takes an unseemly turn as her lawyer takes advantage of Hunter Biden's precarious legal situation and secures evidently $20,000 a month-- a sum that in no way resembles half the cost of raising that young child in Arkansas. Learning this makes you feel very differently about Lunden Roberts--that she is the proverbial gold digger. And she throws in some politically correct drama about her suffering from "anxiety" and "depression" but it comes across as hollow since she created her own problems.

And her mistake with Hunter was not a one time occurrence. She relates in this book how she becomes involved with an abusive alcoholic local and refuses to go to the police until he literally has her in fear of her life. She obviously learned nothing and this incident doesn't make you feel sorry for her it makes you believe she is simply pathetic.

Eventually though Hunter Biden gets some justice---he convinces her to lower the outrageous payment, only to use the savings to rent an expensive house for himself--and truthfully, as a man who also had an inequitable child support payment imposed on him--I found this the only part of the book where I cheered Hunter on! And eventually Hunter interacts with his daughter Navy via Zoom chat, but at least during this book, he appears to have never seen her once in person, truly disgusting behavior for a father. And President Biden simply ignores the existence of his additional grand-daughter, evidently egged on by his wife Jill, truly atrocious behavior, and just one of the many many reasons voters so rejected him, rewarding him with the lowest popularity of any modern presidency and his very own party chasing him out of his re-election campaign.

The other problem with this book is that it clearly wasn't written by Lunden Roberts. It is simply too well written to have been authored by someone of her education and non-literary background. There is a difference between a ghost writer who helps a non writer put his or her thoughts and reflections into words and what you read in this book. One of the ghost writers seems to have a degree from Harvard, but this book is not at all academic, while the other appears to be some kind of communications or social media publicist. In the end it is hard to believe much of this text came from Lunden Roberts. And that makes it look like she just pasted her name to this book to make money rather than maybe teach a lesson to other young women and hold the Biden family accountable.

Overall, this book does present yet another damning portrait of drug-addict criminal Hunter Biden and equally displays the poor character of Joe Biden ignoring the existence of his proven grand-daughter. But is very hard to feel any sympathy for Lunden Roberts. She makes poor decision after poor decision, is of questionable character, and retained lawyers in it simply for the money.

My Review:

Ummm well, this book was not quite what I expected. Most of the beginning kept referring to a lot of drug abuse and well just silly theatrics that don't quite fit a girl that I feel, was just too old to behaving the way she did. But that is neither here nor there, as my husband says. So lets get to the meat of it.

I think the author was intrigued by Hunter Biden and couldn't believe he would do such things, so much so that she followed on his escapades just to see what he would do next. Did she plot to get pregnant in order to cash in on him? Im not sure.

I saying anything bad but the book did lack substance unless you consider story after story just about drinking and drugs and partying. I was very bored early on and I'm not quite sure why the book was written. Im not sure I would want the world to know these things.

So my review will reflect that I'm just not sure on this one. Im stumped actually.

**Disclosure**This book was sent to me free of charge for honest review. All opinions are my own.

Resilient

If you would have told me 15 years ago, this girl i once knew from school would lead a life you couldn't imagine and write a book about it i would have said , "no way"! Especially a life in the world of "Hunter biden" the one we know ,the Hunter from the book and media mixed in with Hunt, only the guy she knows. I read this book because I came across it when she shared it. I love true stories, especially of love and comebacks, so why not. Also, How many times does someone from small town middle of nowhere back home write a book. (Haha) She was a girl everyone wanted to be friends with and all the guys thought was so gorgeous. She was an all American kind of girl and never someone i thought would even have the time of day to know my name. I can see now that wouldn't have been the case. This story is one of those that lets you pull back the curtains and see behind the window. It is raw and real. It shows that everyone is human and goes through trials and tribulations. Your demons are no better or no less than anyone elses. Someone that loves and loves hard. Like me, to sacrifice yourself for others while you break apart. Her fight and love for her daughter hits home for me as I would do the same for my daughters. To love a man while he breaks and you break trying to keep him together because you know how good they can be. You are resilient and push through to be the best version of you. I don't watch the news or keep up politics or celebrities much. I don't get starstruck by any one because they are just people. I didn't even know all of this was going on until your book. I'm proud of you Lunden. You are a force with such resilience . You have done the dang thing and Navy is blessed you are her mama.

** EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE WAS SOMETHING SHE LACKED** … ** SHE WOULD TELL HERSELF JUST HOW DUMB AND NAÏVE SHE IS! **
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------NOTE 1: THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE AUTHOR SAID ABOUT HERSELF.
NOTE 2: I AGREE WITH HER STATEMENTS ON THE ABOVE ONE-THOUSAND-PER-CENT!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the late Howard Cosell so famously said… “I TELL IT LIKE IT IS!” And that is what I am doing in this review… of what is unfortunately a poorly written book… that is devoid of any ongoing logic and common sense… and is predominantly one contradiction after another! The author… who is the Arkansas… former stripper among other things… that became impregnated by **THE-CRACK-HEAD-KING-OF-THE-FREE-WORLD**… HUNTER BIDEN! (Who… will be referenced as “THE KING”… in the remainder of this review.)

Author Lunden Roberts… the aforementioned ex-stripper… baby mama to THE-KING… stated goal… in every word she writes.. and every breath she takes… is to protect her precious daughter Navy Roberts(?Biden?)… but all credulity is so quickly thrown out the window… any semblance of it was last seen passing over Mars! If her goal is to protect her precious daughter… why the holy hell… would she write this book… in which she quite openly… right from the get go… describes herself and her friends as “Party-Girls”… that imbibe in alcohol and drugs?

Then almost immediately any possibility of any fair-minded relatively intelligent reader to have any respect for the intellectual level of the author is also seen microscopically launched way past Mars. The author now living in Washington D.C. goes to an after-hours party with her party-girl com-padres. This late night… early A.M… soiree… is being held in a fancy office building in D.C. As Roberts goes to the bathroom… at the end of a hallway… she hears an expletive from across the hallway… behind a half-open doorway.

There sitting at a desk… IN HIS BOXER SHORTS… WITH MULTIPLE CRACK PIPES AND CRACK COCAINE… AND COCAINE… AND WHO KNOWS WHAT OTHER DRUGS… IS.. ** THE CRACKHEAD KING**!

And so… as the reader imagines… the absolute last IQ point dripping out of the ear of the author… an idolizing love affair built on enormous respect blossoms. (I don’t know if it was the boxer shorts or the nimble handling of multiple crack pipes and drugs… that won her heart and microscopic brain?”)

The author throwing all potential respect by the reader out the window… amazingly writes (by amazing… I mean… all hope for an interesting… intelligent book… goes into a shredder… and is also burned. Had to be described that way… as there’s now too much activity around Mars!)…

“I’M INTRIGUED. HE TURNS IN HIS CHAIR AND CATCHES ME IN HIS STARE, HIS GAZE INTENSE WITH FURROWED BROWS AND THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BLUE-GRAY EYES I HAVE EVER SEEN. THEN A QUICK AND GENUINE, “HEY”. WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE CLAIMED, “THE EYES ARE THE WINDOW TO THE SOUL.” IN HIS EYES I SEE SINCERITY, KINDNESS, LOVE, AND LOTS OF HURT. I KNOW HE IS MORE THAN MEETS THE EYES. HE IS COMPLEX, BUT HOW? HE HAS MY FULL ATTENTION,”

The first question is… how could she see such detail through the smoke form the crack-pipe? The writing gets worse and worse from there on out. She eventually works for him as an assistant… and notices (duh) that he always carries a back-pack with him… and always disappears into a bathroom every twenty minutes. A couple of times he collapses on the floor and she thinks he’s dead. But he calls her “Honey”… along with everyone else… so I guess it makes perfect sense to have him get her pregnant.

Note: since William Shakespeare is long gone… we can’t get his opinion on that!

For the rest of this desultory… self-important… gold-digging… self-nomination for Mother-of-the-Year… rambling mess… Roberts can’t get in touch with “THE-KING” to be involved in “their” daughter’s life. Roberts who goes out of her way to constantly say that she’s got ALL-THE-BIDEN’S-BACKS… by keeping quiet about the pregnancy and birth… so **SHE** doesn’t affect the Presidential election. But please believe Roberts becomes scared for her life… will the CIA kill her?… the FBI?… or some scary BIG BOY she once met with “THE KING”?

Then she finally gets a court case for paternity against “The King”… and he SETTLES for $20,000.00 per month. Holy-moly… The Queen of Sheba could raise five kids and still have money for hefty gold investments on that figure. Years later when the laws in Arkansas changed it went down to a paltry $5,000.00 per month plus benefits.

And then… Lunden falls in love with Brock… an Arkansas yahoo… who becomes like a father to her daughter… but then he threatens to kill her and take the child… breaks into her house… drives a big truck on her lawn… and so on. Meanwhile the author is still proudly protecting Grandpa Joe and the family… while shedding tears every other page because her daughter wants to know her real Father.

Now without spoiling a book that was spoiled from the beginning… I’ll skip the stories closing segments… and share my main takeaway which was sealed at the very beginning of this literary catastrophe… from the very beginning the author is dedicated to… and drowning in the fraught… of protecting this poor innocent child from anyone in the world knowing who she is and what she came from…

SO WHY THE HOLY FREAKING HELL WOULD YOU WRITE A BOOK ABOUT IT!?!? One day she’s going to be old enough to get the book and read about your sordid past… and how the whole world and everyone in it has been out to get you! Unless you plan to get every book back and destroy it… which with limited sales… shouldn’t be that hard to do… you don’t have to worry about my book… because I’m burning it after this review…

The only question that remains for potential readers… is why in hell would you have published this book… and that my friend… I have the answer to…

I have to say this girl “Lunden” was a gold digger and got pregnant for a meal ticket. I mean really, why would you write a book talking about all the drug, partying and stripping you did? So the whole world can know how sleazy you are and your daughter can read it in her future? People can see right through your motives. If you truly loved Hunter then you wouldn’t have gone to a strip club and got a job stripping at the club after you are in “Love” with Hunter. Nor would you be ok with your friends sleeping with him. Honestly, you are trying to make it look like you had this long term love relationship with him. He didn’t love you and you didn’t love him. It was all about how much money and fame you can get.

Not the political story you might expect

As a fellow Arkansan and friend of the Lancaster's I was curious. When Jennifer and Clint received their copy of the book they posted about it and I read the listing but did not buy it. Weeks went by and I just kept thinking about it. Finally, this week, I decided to go ahead and purchase. I rarely purchase books pending to borrow from the local library. I was pleasantly surprised reading the text. This is a completely different side of the story than the one the media continuously pushed. It was refreshing to see the strong love and protection of this mother for her daughter. I sincerely hope things continue to improve and Navy gets the family and life she deserves. (I still think he should be paying his appropriate share!)

Not my usual read.
Reading this just seemed really fake. And she just acted like everyone knew who she was and was constantly thinking of hunter biden . She seemed like she really wanted her daughter to have the Biden name for attention and she just wanted everyone to know she had a Biden child. I was expecting a “wild” ride when most of the book was just her yapping about how special her child was because she had the blue Biden eyes and how paranoid she was at stores and restaurants.

Enjoyed this read. Gave new insight to the scandal. Shows Hunter good side and bad side. Showed the Biden family as heartless family honestly. Denying a little child. I could relate to this story because I may not had child with someone in a political family but had a child out of wedlock. My child was treated by family members in a similar way.

drugs, absent baby’s father, troubling ex, court proceedings…. in my opinion, not the wild world, but the quite mild world… interesting backstory about who Hinter is, and how he hurt their daughter, which was the heartbreaking part… I wish Lunden well, she did go thru it…

This book is so entertaining. Crazy stories! Drama! An inside look at the president's son that is more three-dimensional than anything I have ever heard before. You have to read it to believe it!

Ehhhhhhh this is NEVER my normal go-to read. Her memoir really had me thinking she had ulterior motives and her actions definitely did not match up with her words. That is all. Woof.

When the world paints a picture of you and tells your story for you, this is one way to set the record straight from your view. Lunden's story is full of love, mistakes, adventures, rock bottom darkness, addiction, half truths, sadness, resolve, and eventually new found happiness.

To hear the rollercoater events that carried her along with rollercoaster emotions, I am proud she shared her truth.
