What secrets do we keep to protect the one we love? What lies do we tell, and what are we willing to sacrifice?
Karter Quint has the perfect life: star athlete, gifted pianist, straight A-student, handsome and charismatic, he seems fated for success. What nobody knows is that he has battled debilitating episodes during which a strange force invades his mind and body. The only place where Karter truly feels at ease is at his grandfather’s house on the water in Cliff Island, Maine. There, he meets a mysterious girl named Ella and has an instant obsession. He learns that she is a Meridian, or mermaid. Karter and Ella find themselves connected on a higher level—a level that neither understands.
They begin a heated and intense romance constrained by their limiting circumstances. However, loving Ella comes at a cost. Karter must take extreme measures of secrecy to protect her, straining relationships with his family and friends well into his adult life.
Rose Moon is an emotional and epic love story, and the first in a paranormal romance series, that will keep you guessing until the very end.
*This book contains open door, spicy scenes and should only be read by those 18+. There are some descriptions of mental health illnesses such as depression, and mental health events. Scenes involving date rape drugs and their effects. Please note this is a fantasy where the MC’s age at different rates, they may appear to have a large age gap, but in reality, when they are both compared in human years, there is less than a 3-year age gap. Above all, this is a fiction, a fantasy romance, nothing is real, nor is an actual age gap present.
Hi! My name is Heidi Adams, and I write wherever my characters guide me, which is mostly romance! A little paranormal/fantasy, a little contemporary, sometimes even a little dark. My characters take me on journeys that push me to the edge of my emotions with toe curling passion, heart pounding suspense that will leave you on the edge of your seat, and a ride full of twists and turns…but passion and love are always the driving force behind my characters, and the heart of their stories.
I love LOVE! And when I write, I escape into a world that love conquers all, even in the darkest of hours.
Could the legends and lore of the sea be true? Are there creatures of the deep out there for us to find? 🧜🏻♀️
At a young age, Karter doesn’t quite realize the special person he has seen in the ocean. Fast forward to high school, Karter officially meets Ella and their bond intensifies into Karter’s 20s.
The book jumps in time and although beautifully written would have played well from a dual POV. There’s a play between a soul connection and will this truly work out through the book.
Until book 2! 🧜🏻♀️
Thank you to the author, Heidi Adams, and Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read this book. I received an epub for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This debut novel is a great choice for fans of romantasy books. Karter Quint is a young man living on the coast of Maine and Ella is a mermaid. He’s got something special about him because he can actually see and talk to Ella, while most humans cannot. They develop a special bond and Ella greatly inspires his music; his piano compositions are something special. He is torn between heading off to college (lacrosse scholarship!) and staying home in Maine, to work with his grandfather and to keep composing, because if he gets too far away from Ella, they can’t communicate with each other. Ella can transform into a human for seventeen days during the Rose Moon (in June) and the author has created a scenario which seems almost “reasonable,” but of course you have to suspend your disbelief for this sort of book.
The story follows Karter and Ella over a number of years. The love story was delightful (and spicy). While the middle dragged a bit for me, the later part of the story picked up again. The love triangle was tragic and I wasn’t sure what the point of it was. The ending, for me, was a bit OTT, but others may feel differently about it.
The ebook itself was beautifully done and a pleasure to read, with a gorgeous scene of Karter’s dock and a full moon starting each chapter, and mermaid silhouettes dividing sections of each chapter. The author even provides an immersive playlist to go along with the story. The ending is solid (no cliffhangers, thankfully) but there will be at least one more book in which we will be able to follow Karter’s story.
Recommended for fans of coming-of-age romantasy stories!
Thank you to Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I could see the premise; it's a great idea. But to pull this off, there needs to be a higher level of maturity. It says 18+ but the writing feels juvenile. I discovered I don't care for mermaid romance. A 200 year old mermaid seducing a 17 year old human male, is still grooming. And I couldn't find the plot 😭 Thank you for sending it over, Heidi... I wanted to love it, I'm so sorry.
The writing is juvenile and gives the impression that it was written by someone young trying to sound older. The dialogue feels forced and robotic. I struggled to care about any of the characters because there is absolutely no emotion in the writing. It’s almost as if you are reading off a checklist. There is absolutely no angst, no suspense, no feeling. Everything feels very flat and boring. I started skimming because it was so dreadfully boring and anticlimactic.
The fact that this mermaid fell in love with a 5 year old, didn’t act on it until he was in high school, gave me the ick…bad. If I had known I would be reading about a high schooler getting his c*ck groped I wouldn’t have applied for this ARC.
I thank the author for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Unfortunately this was not for me and I am struggling to understand these 4 & 5 star reviews.
This was definitely an interesting read. I do not usually read in solely MMC POV, usually is FMC or dual so this was really a change and there were some pros and cons to it imo. I think a dual pov for this would have been good to provide details on some of the gaps that happened between Ella's and Karters time apart. I know the story is about Karter but there were just a lot of gaps that could have been filled, I am hoping that the second book is in dual pov and we get to her first hand about Ellas tragedies.
I also really didnt love a lot of the skipping around, I know this book covers a pretty large timespan of years, but there were things missing and the breaks between the chapters/plot were jumpy. This caused me to have to really push through up until 65%. After that it picked up and flowed much better and pulled itself into a 4 star book for me. The whole concept was super interesting about being able to walk on land but only for certain lengths and the different powers a mermaid could have. I'm really looking forward to where things go for Karter & Ella now that the battle is just starting.
First off, thank you to the author because I received an ARC copy!! Secondly, the way I need the second book!!! So like it did start a bit slow for me, but when it picked up…I was locked in. I felt like I was zooming through the book. I love the connection that Ella and Karter built! Especially because Karter was like I love you for you. Mermaid or human!! I also had a small time where I had beef with the author…iykyk. But she made things better and ended on a high note.
The idea is unique and sound based on the summary- A mermaid and a boy fall in love. He tries to protect her from the outside world as best he can , but truthfully he can't help wondering what in the world is going on.
Because that's how I felt as a reader.
I can't get past the fact that I'm 11% in (a little over five chapters) and I have no idea what the actual plot is. Where's the conflict? The tension? The desire? The angst?
It doesn't exist.
I can't get past the writing. It is amateur at best. The dialogue between characters is stiff and forced and sounds as though it was AI generated. It's telling me a story rather than showing me a moving picture. There is an almost catastrophic abundance of sequence words, like "First, Next, Then, Finally," etc.
I question how old the author is because this sounds like the writing some of my high school aged students would turn in for an assignment.
I tried my best, but after multiple attempts I have to DNF it. Perhaps some major revisions and editing will help the writing and overall story grow with time.
I don't think I have read any book that is in a mermaid setting, but to say I'm obsessed with Heidi Adams Rose Moon is an understatement.
" Karter and Ella have a special kind of bond, and she has been drawn to him for a very long time. Ella is not human and can live A VERY LONG life (if not immortal), Karter is human, Or is he? You will have to read Rose moon to find out, the secrets that Ella and Karter are keeping I highly recommend this book to Everyone, you won't regret it, you might if you don't.
Anyone that has followed me for any length of time knows that I don’t normally do romance. When I got the opportunity to be an early reader for Rose Moon though, I jumped on it and was so excited! I came for the beautiful cover and intriguing synopsis, and stayed for the epic love story between Karter and Ella.
When I tell you I was not prepared for this story - I am not exaggerating even a little bit. I knew to expect romantasy, mermaids, and some spice, but I wasn’t ready for everything in between. Spanning decades, the reader gets to see everything from Karter in high school, to Karter into adulthood as he struggles to make emotional connections with those around him.
For anyone that has ever felt that there is something more out there for them, I think this book will strike a chord. I really enjoyed that the book was told from Karter’s perspective as the few romances I have read have been solely a female perspective. Also - Karter is a sweetheart and needs to be protected at all costs.
Check this one out if you love romance, fantasy, and mermaids!!
**Thank you to Heidi Adams for the ARC of this epic love story!**
What a unique and interesting story. Mermaids and other fantastic aspects, an unlikely pair and romance all come together to make this stunning tale. My first book by this author and it didn’t disappoint.
I don’t know what I was expecting from this book, but it definitely exceeded all of my expectations.
First off, I’ve never read a mermaid romance, but this book has made me so curious about them.
The plot was so intriguing and I thought well executed. And that cliffhanger had me dying because I need more. It’s not a want, but a need/necessity. Because I haven’t stopped thinking about this book and what could happen since I finished it.
I loved Ella. First off, she’s a mermaid that is able to turn into a human during a certain time during the year. I mean how cool is that? She has the best of both worlds! Besides that, she is sweet, understanding, and definitely the type of girl you would want to take home to your parents.
Karter is definitely a unique character. Having anger issues since he was little, he spends a lot of his time at his grandpas house. One day he sees Ella when he shouldn’t have. He eventually gets to know Ella and it is definitely a love at first sight kinda thing. But the way he cares for Ella and the way he takes care of her is just absolutely perfect. He doesn’t care if he sacrifices everything in his life. As long as he gets to have Ella in his life, he is happy and content.
It was so heart warming and fun to watch Karter and Ella’s love unfold. I cannot wait till the next book comes out because I need answers!
Karter Quint is the ultimate golden boy—handsome, athletic, and a musical prodigy—but he's got this dark secret that messes with his perfect life: Ella, the mysterious mermaid who flips his world upside down.
Their chemistry? Off the charts! The way they connect is so beautifully intense, and honestly, it made my heart ache in the best way. But just when you think everything’s going smoothly, BAM—drama hits!
The twists kept me on my toes, and I loved seeing everything unfold from Karter’s perspective.
The forbidden love element? Chef’s kiss! It’s magical yet so real, and I was totally invested in their journey.
The ending leaves you craving more, setting up for the next installment in a way that’s just perfect.
Overall, Rose Moon hit ALL the feels and I can't wait to dive into the next book!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is a love story I've been needing to read. I could not stop reading this captivating paranormal romance.
Karter Quint is handsome, athletic, musically talented, and straight "A" student, who always had to battle this strange force he struggled controlling and associated it with anger management. His enjoys his visits to his grandpa's house in Cliff Island, where he knows he can escape his episodes and have a sense of peace. He never understood his attachment to the ocean until Ella came into his life. He's captivated and loves like he never knew he could with Ella.
I really enjoyed reading this from the MMC point of view. The forbidden love between Karter and Ella is magical and almost perfect. I love those moments with them together. They have a beautiful connection, but then I'm torn halfway through the book as something drastic happens in the storyline. I was going through a rollercoaster of emotions because I didn't know where the story was going. Since this is a series, I like how the ending of the book went. The story leaves you wondering what will happen as Karter begins this adventure he never expected.
Heidi Adams wrote a beautiful and captivating love story. This paranormal romance is an easy read and kept me wanting to read and find out more. The story flows well, and the pace was well thought out. If you love to read about mermaids, magic, and romance, this is a book I recommend reading!
Set off the coast in Maine, this book follows the life Karter Quint and the special abilities he has; namely he can see and speak to Ella, a mermaid. Spanning over a number of years we see their romance develop and grow into something deep and profound.
A coming of age, romantasy novel, this book is full of heartbreak and healing, unique magic and love triangles, all tied together by Heidi’s beautiful writing. If you’re looking for your next whimsical read (with a wonderful playlist included) this is your book.
I wish we had a dual POV to really enhance the connection between Ella and Karter but overall I really enjoyed this read! I was broken hearted over Rachel, and having a chocolate lab myself I have a special connection with Charlie 🙈 I was rooting for him!
This was the perfect read for this magical season and I was honored to be offered the opportunity to read this book. Can’t wait to see what happens next on Karter and Ella’s journey.
When I read the initial blurb about Rose Moon by Heidi Adams, I was intrigued but not entirely sure what kind of story about mermaids would hold my interest since, admittedly, my history with the topic is brief. Adams has completely sold me on mermaid lore and magic, though. If you take nothing else away from this review, know that this story is so incredible, I am now a mer-fan!
This book is magically written with a perfect balance of detail and plot to move the story along over the course of Karter's early life. The story begins when he is a small child, seeing a girl in the water at Poppy Joe's house when visiting his grandfather; a girl no one else can see. Fast forward, and we're now with Karter in his high school years while working through the normal social and emotional turmoil, plus some added tension due to his worldview and responses being so vastly different from those of his surgeon father and lawyer mother. At 17, he meets the girl in the water again, only this time they are able to interact. Thus begins the long, world shifting love story of a lone mermaid with immeasurable power, Ella, and the human with unknown capabilities that exceed any she's witnessed in her long life, Karter. We follow him as he matures through his 20s, hitting the climax of the story when Karter is 30.
There are so many twists and turns, I don't want to talk much about the details of the plot in case I accidentally give something away. Karter's relationship with Ella develops during a time of war between the mer-clans (this is much more detailed in the book, Adams has a magnificent world built) and a time of peace between humans, although Karter struggles with his own mental health and relationships throughout the story. The love story seems like the main conflict of the book, until about halfway through when Ella's and Karter's worlds no longer flow together, and the conflict of being from different species and the, seemingly, background conflict with the war comes to the surface. This book kept me entranced (and awake into the wee hours of the night) because of the absolute beauty and complexity. The magic and wonder of mermaid lore mixed with secrets, subtle but meaningful world building, tense family dynamics, and a MMC with exceptionally interesting viewpoints and emotions keeps this story moving forward despite the time we spend in various stages of Karter's life. Although Rose Moon doesn't hit shelves until October, I am already excited for the next book of the series!
When Heidi told me she was writing a book, I was immediately supportive of what I assumed was her new hobby. I’ll never forget reading the first pages of Rose Moon and thinking, “Wow! She’s a WRITER, writer!” She certainly showed me.
Rose Moon sucks you in from the very first chapter. From laughing out loud to a particular scene involving a drunk Karter, to being enamored by a mermaid nobody can see but him. I felt like I was the one falling in love for the first time through Karter and Ella, their love is that raw, intense, and deep. I also felt like I knew all the characters, personally. Rose Moon pulled on my heart strings. Every. Single. One. It hit ALL of the feels.
Let’s talk Karter Quint 🤗😍🔥. I loved being in his head, as this book is written from his point of view. He’s not the stereotypical morally gray MMC, which we all know and love. BUT he may be the BEST book boyfriend you never knew you needed. And you just know, there are several untapped layers to him yet to be discovered. And Charles Vandervaart, if you are reading this, and if there is ever a film adaptation of Rose Moon, you would make the perfect Karter!
This book has some definite spice, but in a way that I could still recommend it to my mother, I just may give her a heads up first 😂! It will have your heart racing, and your toes curling, and I never once felt like I was reading just smut.
Heidi’s imagery style is so unique, it had me feeling like I was at Poppy Joe’s house, sitting on his dock at Cliff Island, while I read. The images were so vivid and beautiful that I visited some of the areas from Rose Moon this past summer! I took a ferry from Portland Maine through Casco Bay to see it for myself. It will always be a special memory for me because it was exactly like she had written in the book.
When I finished Rose Moon, I was quite sad, but not from the ending, but because I was so connected to the characters—I felt like I was saying goodbye to my friends! Weeks later my mind was still reeling about Karter, Ella and especially Poppy Joe (and a few others from situations I can’t mention due to some crazy twists and turns.)
Overall, this book has to be one of my all-time favorite reads. This is the book that made me fall back in love with reading, and for that reason, it will always hold a special place in my heart. I can’t wait to see where this story goes!
Karter was five years old when he first saw her. They were having a barbeque at his grandparent's home on Maine's shore. His mother was warning him to slow down and stay in the middle of the dock so he didn't fall in.
He remembers leaning over the edge and reaching out his hand asking her her name. But no one else saw the girl in the water.
Karter is trying to focus. There are only a few more minutes in class and he can feel the fog rolling in. He has had these involuntary daydreams for years. He used to be full of rage feeling like someone was taking over his thoughts, but he has gotten better in warding them off.
Being at his grandfather's property on Cliff Island and sitting at the piano composing is the only thing that gives him control of his thoughts.
I loved this story! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This story is written in single POV and surprisingly it is from Karter's view and not Ella's. Karter has been drawn to Cliff Island his whole life and when he finally meets the 'girl in the water' he is amazed that she is a mermaid.
If you like paranormal romance you will love this book. Karter and Ella have a magnetic connection despite her being a mermaid, but she is able to turn human during the rose moon each year. Until one day she is just gone taking away all Karter's reason for living.
There is so much I could say about this book, but they would involve spoilers. This book does have a HEA and even though it doesn't leave you with a cliffhanger you know that their journey hasn't ended. Highly recommend!
Rose Moon is a modern day mermaid fantasy filled with magic, lore, secrets, coastal Maine + other New England adventures and Poppy Joe — a true gem of a human!
We follow Karter and Ella through Karter’s POV as they navigate an electrifying pull between a man and mermaid.
Karter is handsome, smart and on paper, lives the perfect life. He struggles with his mental health and not understanding his anger and an internal void feeling.
Enter Ella, the mysterious woman he sees swimming off Poppy Joe’s (Karter’s grandfather) dock. He is immediately drawn to her and feels peace in her presence.
I enjoyed the time jumps throughout the book to experience the full scope & depth of their story as worlds collided with passion, love & longing but also pain, obstacles and sacrifice.
I was mesmerized by never knowing the direction the story was going with the twist and turns and blissfully rode the emotional waves!
Heidi does a wonderful job balancing the hard, sensitive topics with sweet, finding light in the dark moments.
Thank you so much to Heidi for the gifted ARC and congratulations on your beautifully crafted debut novel!
Fun mentions: 🧜♀️ I love a good title revelation light bulb moment! 🌹 Maine holds a special place in my heart and it was such a joy to relive Maine through Rose Moon! 🌕 The musical connection Karter & Ella share is swoonworthy.
Get ready to dive into a world you never knew existed. A world that began to emerge for five-year-old Karter one fateful day while visiting his grandparents on the coast of Maine. Pretending to be an airplane, his sight and imagination soaring high through pillowy clouds, was quickly grounded when he saw her in the water. She was watching him in pure fascination, thankful for the fact that humans were unable to see her, which allowed her to get comfortably close. Shock began to sink in and kept her frozen in place when the little boy looked her directly in the eyes and smiled at her curiously.
The same curiosity that bewitched Karter captured my attention and left me turning each page in anticipation. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, the unpredictable aspects of life took hold, jolting my vision and manipulating my heartstrings to see through different colored glasses.
Heidi has done an exquisite job weaving together an enticing story, filling each page with a masterful balance of emotions. From enchanting discovery, questioning fate, heart-pounding romance, and toe-curling passion, you are immediately and fully vested in what is, was, and what’s yet to come…
Rose Moon is not just a story; it’s a journey meant to be experienced.
Karter Quint has everything going for him. He’s rich, popular, smart, athletic, and a gifted musician. Yet, no one knows that he experiences crippling migraines where it feels like his mind is being taken over. The only place he feels calm and safe is Cliff Island, near his grandfather, Poppy Joe.
At Cliff Island, Karter meets Ella. They instantly connect and their bond deepens quickly. They begin a burning, passionate, and intense romance. When a heated argument leads to disastrous consequences, Karter must make a heartbreaking choice.
Rose Moon is an emotional and epic love story, and the first in a paranormal romance series, that will keep you guessing until the very end.
Here’s what I LOVED about this romance: -Fated Love -Mermaids -Magic -Power -Depression Representation
Here’s what I didn’t love: -Lightning fast timeline -Mid-Act “break-up” -Hollywood storyline -Single POV
This book was an emotional rollercoaster for me. It was the kind of love story that made me cry so hard, I almost began hyperventilating. If you love feeling like your soul is being crushed and demolished, then you should read this book! I am looking forward to the next book :D
Thank you to Happily Booked PR and Heidi Adams for giving me an advance copy to review. I leave this review 100% voluntarily.
Thank you to the author Heidi Adams for giving me an arc copy of Rose Moon in exchange for my honest review.
Karter starts off as your typical high school kid. Jock, popular, the ladies like him ect.. but underneath he is anything but a typical kid. Ella is a mysterious girl in the ocean..
I want to start with that I was a little apprehensive about the relationship between Karter and Ella because it starts out when he is 17 and I knew this was a romance. But as the story went on, he becomes older. I loved Heidi’s writing style. I feel the story flowed very well. I liked watching Karter and Ella’s connection grow. I loved the relationship Karter has with Poppy Joe and wish I got along with my grandparents like that.
Spoiler alert.. I am so heartbroken over Rachel. I was so happy for Karter for finally moving on and finding Rachel. I hope in whatever fantasy land she lives in that she finds a happy ever after.
I can’t wait for book 2 in this series and am dying to know how Karter and Ella will save the world!

This book felt really long. It takes place over 11ish years and even though half the book is glossing over months and sometimes years at a time, the story just drags. The premise is good, and there’s decent lore explanations throughout the book. The characters aren’t perfect, but I can definitely see how people could get attached to them. Unfortunately there are a lot of chapters in the story that don’t build to anything within the plot, and it seems like the story could have easily occurred over 2-3 years instead of a decade. If you want your MMC to be 30 for the main plot then starting the book while he’s a high schooler sets you up for a lot of fluff. Also everything about how Rachel was treated was THE WORST. She isn’t vital to the story, and exists basically to get dumped by Karter. There’s no point in the story where you genuinely feel that she’s going to be the girl he ends up with, so it feels weird to read intimate and tender moments knowing she’s going to get hurt. This book had a lot going for it in theory, but it just didn’t work out in the final draft.
This book was pretty good. It does start out a bit slow, but about half- way through it starts to pick up and I really liked the last half. I also liked that it was told in Karter's POV. I haven't read very many books that are told just in the MMC's point of view, and I think the author did a pretty good job with it. I tend to like the male's POV more than the females in romance books. It did feel a bit long at times, but overall, I enjoyed it. This is definitely a series that I want to continue reading. I am excited to see where the author takes us in the next book.
**I read an ARC of Rose Moon, and this is my honest opinion.
“Rose Moon" is a captivating tale of true love that transcends the boundaries of the ordinary. Even though this isn’t my typical genre, from the very first page, I found myself utterly engrossed in Karter and Ella's enchanting journey. Their deep and improbable connection, one between a human and a mermaid, is masterfully portrayed, making you believe in the magic of fate.
Throughout the book, I couldn't help but root for their relationship, as they seem perfectly suited for one another, true soul mates. However, the intricately woven secrets they must guard add an element of suspense, leaving me constantly questioning whether their love can withstand the challenges that lie ahead.
“Rose Moon" is a spellbinding read that left me yearning for more of Karter and Ella's extraordinary story.
Rose Moon is a fantasy novel told from the perspective of Karter Quint our MMC.
Karter is an athlete and pianist who has everything going for him. Ella is a mermaid that no one except Karter can see. When their worlds collide it is met with passion, happiness, and heartache.
This is an emotional roller coaster. And without giving away any spoilers there was a point in time I was so angry at the turn of events.
If you love mermaids and stories with high emotions, this is for you. Also be sure to check out the immersive playlist available to really get the feel of Karter’s story.
Thank you to Heidi Adams for an ARC. This is an honest review and the opinions are my own.
To be fair, I wasn’t sure this book would be a good fit for me based off the description. It would be easy to say “ this was such a cute read” as an ARC reader but that would be misleading.
Things I couldn’t get behind: - It could be unintentional (and I hope it is) but I had to skip over a lot of cringe scenes. - time jumping: we jump weeks, months, and years with no real detail about what’s happening.
Also, justice for Rachel. He could have just left her alone tbqh.
Where can I even begin? This book drags you in from the very first page. When I first started reading about Karter and his past, it broke my heart. He felt like an outsider looking into a world where he was trying to fit in. It wasn't until he saw a beautiful woman named Ella that things began to change.
Ella helped Karter to start seeing the world in a different light. They both started falling for each other, even though it was forbidden in Ella's world. She would do anything for Karter, even if it meant breaking the rules of her kind

Want to thank Heidi Adam's for sending me an arc. Wow thank you for allowing me to see into the world of karter and Ella. You took me through an emotional journey. with tears, laughter and amazement on how perfectly you captured each character. The way you told this fantasy love story has left me dying for book 2. Please tell me it's not far off. This is one fantasy series I'd read again and encourage other fantasy fans to read. This novel will be available on the 17 the October 2024.
You ever read a book that throws you into a book slump because nothing can compare? I enjoyed the plot, character development, despised the middle (but only because i wasn’t rooting for a certain character), and didn’t want the ending to come. It is the first in a series, so let that be your hint as to how it ends. Just enough to hopefully keep you satisfied until the next adventure. A true original. Loved it and can’t wait for the next book!
