The Tempus Guild #2

The Broken Threads of Fate

Rate this book
Slowly, he turned his head to me, his eyes hardening, blue eyes flashing. “Let him go.”
“Let who go?”
“Him.” The single word was laced with venom, his mouth twisting in a near snarl. “The one called Derek. He will be your downfall.”
I didn’t answer, only stared at him open-mouthed, heart stuttering. How could he . . . ? “How do you know his name?”
His eyes lowered to the pearl bracelet on my wrist, and a sad look overtook him, chasing away some of the tempered rage. “She told me his name. She told me he’s not meant for you.” His Robin’s-egg blue eyes, now sparking to life and swirling with color, lifted back to my own. “And if you don’t listen, you won’t survive what’s coming.”

The threads of the prophecy are changing.

Malina's story continues in this heart-pounding and epic adventure in The Tempus Guild series by Charity F Nelson.

Malina Allaway is the Keyholder and has restored the Key to the guild, becoming its fated protector. The weight of such power lies heavy on her shoulders, and she questions her ability to handle the responsibility. Although she's far from alone as friends and the most unlikely of allies stand by her side.

Derek Blacklock's sudden disappearance and her deadly encounter with the god of Death shattered her belief that such gods never existed. She's introduced to realms beyond her own, stretching her perception of Time and Fate in dangerous ways.

The game of twisted lies and who she can trust becomes increasingly complicated. Intentions of the heart are revealed, while some truths will almost be too difficult to accept. Darkness finds her on all sides until there isn't anywhere she can hide.

Soon, she will have to take matters into her own hands to protect the ones she loves—and maybe the entire Isle itself—or risk its impending doom.

For fans of closed-door, slow-burn romance, forced proximity, love triangle, a unique magic system, meddling gods, epic violence and adventure, and so much more!

My mom used to take books away from me as punishment when I was a kid. That’s how much I loved to read, and even still. That love swiftly turned into a passion for writing to the point that I opted to become homeschooled sophomore year of high school so I could dedicate my time to writing and self-publishing my first book at just sixteen. BUT I’ll do you all a favor and keep that one to myself - spoiler alert: it was awful.

I live in Las Vegas, NV with my husband and three children. I have a dual degree in Creative Writing and Spanish from the college of Southern Nevada. I have a variety of work experience under my belt including former VP of a non-profit called Lighthouse Charities that primarily assists refugees relocated the United States and I’m also a former Foster Mom.

The Keyholder of Time is my debut novel. When I'm not writing, I'm mom-ing, reading, or traveling. And last but certainly not least, I'm a proud medical/trach/G-tube/Trisomy 18 mom.

I’m really enjoying how this series is turning out. This is the second book in the Tempus Guild series. This book explains more about the history of the gods and the Tempus Guild. Malina also learns more about her abilities and fate. The cliffhanger on this one is bigger than the first one, so the anticipation for book 3 is on. Can’t wait to read the next one!

Unexpected twists and turns. Loved watching Malina start to settle in her role as keyholder. I am undecided whether I am team Derek or team Sam. Must read The Keyholder of Time First. Looking forward to next book in the series!

Thank you Charity F Nelson for allowing me to be an ARC reader for the book. Looking forward to next book in series. These thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Broken Threads of Fate picks up immediately where Book 1: The Keyholder of Time, left off. Malina is trying so save not only the wielders but also the entire Isle against the Grand Chief and the Hallowed. Teaming up with Enna, Rhona, Sam, and the rest of the gang, can they put a stop to the war that's coming? And What about Derek.....?

I actually enjoyed Book 2 more than Book 1! I loved the storyline- and seeing all the characters (some unexpected!) to be joining Malina on her mission. I love Enna, but Rhona definitely grew on me this book. I liked we learned more about the gods and we're seeing Malina come into her own as the Keyholder. The characters were just great this book.

And that cliffhanger.... Oh there better be a Book 3, I'm addicted to Malina's story ( and I need more Derek ).

ARC review- The Broken Threads of Fate by Charity F Nelson

Uh she has don’t wonders with this book. If you haven’t read book 1 you need to before this other wise you will be lost. I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t stop reading it. I can’t wait for book 3 because this series is very addicting and I need to know what happens next. Though this book has no spice YET just slow burn it keeps you on your toes wanting more. Wanting to know if they finally give in to everything you feel they have.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

QUOTE⛓️‍💥
“My heart is yours, MALINA Alloway. It will always be yours.”

MALINA— She is the keyholder but furthermore she has a lot more power than she immagined. The guild highly under estimates what she can do. As the book goes on her strength grows and she hits you with a surprise you never saw coming.

SAMUEL— He is her best friend and has known her since they were kids. He secretly has been in love with her for as long as he can remember. He wants her but doesn’t know if she feels the same. He knew of her secret gift but had no idea how much it’s grown. He too has secrets of his own that will make you have feelings yourself.

DEREK— He is her bonded and the new God of Time. He may be a distance away but there feel each other all the same because their hearts beat as one. When he sees her again there’s so much that hasn’t been said between them but he has a surprise for her that she ends up adoring all the same. Does he know her fate or can he change what the Goddess of Fate has planned for them.

SHAHRIVAR/LOLAND— He is the God of Death. He has lots of secrets and took over Lolands body. He is one character that you don’t know whether you enjoy, hate, or peeks your curiousity. He has plans that no one knows about.

HARBINGER/LOLAND— The real Loland is the harbinger and eventhough he doesn’t have his body anymore he still lives all in the same. He is darkness and the God Killer. He has plans for them all and they have yet to fully come to light.

“Then allow me to be the god you will never forget.”

I LOVED this book. I seriously can’t get enough of Malina and Derek. After the shocking events leading up to the ending of The Keyholder ofTime, I was SO excited to get back into this world.

The first part of the book, I was thrown off a little by what was happening between Malina and Derek. But as you get further into the book…just trust me, you’ll understand why.

I really enjoyed reading more about the gods themselves, and seeing Malina’s character growth throughout her time so far at the Guild. The twists and turns throughout the book truly kept me on my toes and wanting more.

Just as in Book 1, there is no spice. HOWEVER, the tension and slow burn is just *chef’s kiss*. 🖤♥️

Please read the Tempus Guild series if you love:

⚔️ Unique Magic System

Thank you Charity for sending me this ARC! I love your work so much, and I can’t wait until the next book!

I received an advanced reader copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the second installment of The Tempus Guild Series. Let me tell you, that you won’t be disappointed! I would recommend reading book one only because you might be lost if you dive right into book two. There is so much going on, and it jumps right in to where the characters left off. We are still following our main FMC, Malina who has now gotten comfortable with her role as keyholder. There is so much growth in the characters in book two! Malina has definitely progressed and is very well spoken and in character. She’s very driven, and she’s not afraid to speak up for herself. Her relationship with Derek also widely develops, and there’s so much more to the storyline, but I do not want to add any spoilers. You know how, in Twilight, people were either rooting Team Jacob or Edward? Well, I feel like that’s the same for this book. You’re either for Samuel or Derek. There’s so much that gets unveiled, but there’s still so much to unveil at the same time. I truly can’t wait to read the third book. I only dislike cliffhangers because that means I have to wait to read the next one! I purchased the prequel and the first book prior to even finding out about the release of The Broken Threads of Fate. I can’t wait to add the physical copy of this book to my collection!

5⭐️s. @charityfnelson continues Malina’s story in book 2 of The Tempus Guild series. The a broken Threads of Fate will be available July 31st!! ❤️Please be aware as you read this review it may spoil book one, The Keyholder of Time. This a wonderful series so far. Consider supporting a newer author by purchasing her books on Amazon.

Everything has changed for Malina. But so much has remained. She is now in possession of the Key and will really get to understand the power it has and her own abilities with it. Derek is now the new god of time and is MIA. Sam is alive and has secrets of his own. Loland is dead or is he… The god of death has now joined the group. Accursed gods are all around Malina. Who can she truly trust while she struggles to trust her own strength. The council is still trying to marry her off. Because with hundreds dying around them due to the Hollowed, the god-killer on the loose, and a war on the horizon, that’s the most pressing concern.

Side note: I NEED more of Kirkwood’s story. He’s my favorite. 😍

Book two still has the element of a love triangle, adventure, certain death, miraculous survival, bravery unmatched, even more meddling gods, and so much more. Truly a wonderful part two to the story. Can’t wait to read book 3. Thank you so much @charityfnelson for the advanced reader copy.

“Then allow me to be the god you will never forget.”

“I’d wait a thousand years if I knew those lips would be mine and only mine.”

Tropes include:

- Slow burn
- Tension
- Banter
- Strong FMC
- Meddling gods
- Unique magic system
- Found family
- Closed door romance

My review:

This is book 2 in The Tempus Guild series and it did NOT disappoint!! I actually loved this even more than The Keyholder of Time (which was already a 5⭐️ read)! That makes this unquestionably another 5⭐️ read!

There is more world building in this book and we learn more about the meddling gods. I couldn’t wait to get into this book after that ending in book 1. I’m so glad I didn’t have to wait long! This book will keep you guessing. About who to like, who to love, who to trust, and even sometimes what is real! It kept me fully engaged through the whole journey.

I am absolutely looking forward to, and NEEDING, book 3! I hope you’ll give this amazing author a chance. You won’t be disappointed!

Oh Mrs. Nelson what did I just read?!

I wanted to savor every moment of reading this. This was a satisfying follow up to an amazing first novel and novella in the series. I can’t wait to see where the series heads next.

The worst part about this book? That the series is not finished and I have to wait for the next book! That Chapter 1 spoiler at the end leaves you wondering and pondering!

This book is really setting the tone for the rest of the series. There were multiple times where my jaw dropped because the story went places that I was not expecting. You might think you know what will happen next but you don’t.

All the best fantasy tropes in one: gods, realms, bonds, and more. I don’t want to be specific and give away key plot twists. But you will be satisfied. Nelson is magic.

Malina is really starting to come into herself in this book. I feel like she is stepping into her role and embracing where life has taken her. It’s a really great lesson.

Team Derek or Team Sam? Undecided.

Clean romance for the win.

Thank you Charity F. Nelson for allowing me to be an ARC reader for this book. I am honored and it’s so special to get my hands on your work early. Keep being amazing. I’ll read anything you write! These thoughts and opinions, however, are my own!

“You are more than your weaknesses; you are greater than your enemies. Find that strength.”

I was on @charitys ARC team for the first book in the series and loved it, so I couldn’t wait to see what happened in this next book. This second book lived up to the first one and I was thoroughly entertained. I loved her pacing and her plot twists! They kept my attention and made it really hard not to keep telling myself one more chapter. I gasped in shock multiple times throughout the book not believing what was happening, and I loved the growth and deeper connections we got from the characters. I was happy that there was more romance in this one too, and although I loved all these things about this book one of my favorite things about this series is the reminder that we have to experience darkness to fully appreciate the light.

Malina and her fate are my current obsession. This series quickly became a top favorite of mine and book two was somehow even better than the first!! The Broken Threads of Fate is a captivating continuation of the Tempus Guild Series with all the best romantasy feels and all the best epic fantasy feels. The twists and turns, not knowing who to trust, and not knowing who to fall for… and all with a touch of darkness. I could not put this book down and didn’t want it to ever end. I enjoyed every second of this book and can’t wait to see what book three has in store for us.

♥️:👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻

YOU MUST READ THIS SERIES. I love it so much! I am going to lose sleep while I wait for the next book to come out. The world building in this series is magical, and all of the characters are amazing. Melina is definitely growing more comfortable in her role as keyholder and is getting even more bold and brave. Derek is the definition of romantacy. Seriously, look it up. You’ll see him there. 😉 I love the slow burn of their relationship and am here 👏🏻 for 👏🏻 it 👏🏻 !!
The plot twist kept me on my toes and I found myself thinking about the book even when I wasn’t reading it.

Just like the first book, there is no spice but some good quality slow burn and tension mixed with some witty banter. It’s marvelous!

"Power lies not within our strength. Neither are battles won by power alone. It requires someone willing to sacrifice everything, especially for the ones they love.”

I have been impatiently waiting for this book since reading The Keyholder of Time. I loved getting to return to the world of the Tempus Guild to see what Malina, Derek, Rhona, Kirkwood, Sam, and the rest of the gang were up to.

“I’d wait a thousand years if I knew those lips would be mine and only mine.”

Malina seems to have grown so much more comfortable with her role as the Keyholder since book one. She continues to be fierce, feisty, and not afraid to speak her mind. Derek has gone through a lot since book one, and I loved getting to see how he’s acclimated to his new role. There is still so much tension between Malina & and Derek, and I can not wait for them to finally give in! Getting to find out more about Kirkwood was one of my favorite character development arcs in this book. He is such a likable character.

“Have you never seen a god before? Then allow me to be the god you will never forget.”

The world building continues to be beautifully developed in this book. I loved how the author has started giving us more information about the gods, how the gods live, and the different realms. The slow reveal of the prophecy and what exactly the repercussions of it could be keeps the reader enthralled in the story. She gives you just enough information to keep your attention without overwhelming you. I can’t wait to see how the story continues in book 3.

Little did I know going into The Broken Threads of Fate would it be better than The Keyholder of Time, Book 1 in the Tempus Guild series. (Book 1 is amazing btw)

This book is full of even more twist and turns than the first. So well written and beautifully executed. I can’t wait to read more and see how Malina and Derek’s relationship develops.

Thank so much Charity for sharing your stories and giving me the opportunity to read them!

I absolutely love this series!! I have hope for more to come because this sequel is an amazing continuation of the first (& the prequel). There were plenty of moments that shocked me throughout the book, which I love. Charity’s writing is unique and always keeps my attention from the start of her books. I couldn’t put this one down and it makes me want to reread the series!!

4.75⭐️ I LOVE this series!! It’s a 5 star series for me!

This sequel to the keyholder of time dives deeper into the Tempus guild world and I can’t get enough. Malina really grows into her role and is a badass FMC. There were definitely twists I didn’t expect and the ending left me with SO many questions, that will be answered in book 3.

I’m still pretty new to fantasy so I have a hard time keeping up sometimes and get a little confused, hence the .25 star deduction.

This series is such a great read, I cannot recommend it enough!

ARC REVIEW

“Power lies not within our strength. Neither are battles won by power alone. It requires someone willing to sacrifice everything, especially for the ones they love.”

Thank you Charity for sending me this book!
Ok. I am obsessed with this series. After that cliffhanger in book 1 I HAD to keep reading.
Mal is on her journey of becoming the person everyone wants her to be..but does she want to be that person? She has heard many things… the prophecy…the reckoning… Is Mal going to figure out the truth? Is she going to become the person she hates? The twists and turns in this book will make you feel all the emotions. But trust me.. it’s so worth it.
This book is YA so it has no spice.. but the slow burn aspect keeps you wanting more and more..and I LOVE it. There was more romance in this book but nothing spicy.
Charity knows how to end a book. That cliffhanger..I cannot wait to read the next book!
I LOVE that we got more Sam content in this book. ..but Sam kinda started to irritate me. I also didn’t trust him the last half of the book.
One word. DEREK. ugh. Derek is amazing
I did get confused in places because there are so many characters. I find it hard to keep up with all the names.

The next chapter of the Tempus Guild series, and it's amazing!!

We start TBTOF outside the guild at Kirkwood's inn with Malina seeing that Sam is alive. But he's been through it, and isn't the same man that Malina remembers from home. The council is also still pretty set in their ways and will not listen to what Malina has to offer. We see the return of Grandmaster Redmund from the prequel The Scythe's Vow, along with some other factors from that little novella to tie things together. Throughout the course of this story Malina seems to jump away to be with Derek, and we wonder if it's because of their bond that was established in The Keyholder of Time. I was living for these little moments they had together, so sweet with yearning! When she asks him what is his weakness while he stares longingly at her... Girl! It's you!

Loland is still present in a couple of different forms. Shahrivar, the previous God of Death, has possessed his body to use. Loland continues to also be the Harbinger that he was in TKOT, which confuses our characters. For Shahrivar being one of the "enemies," he's very funny during this story. So Loland is no longer a part of our love triangle with Malina and Derek, and has been replaced with Sam. Poor, poor Sam. He's obviously pining for Malina, and she does have some feelings for him. However, it does seem to be more friendship-feelings. She does admit that she would have an easier life if she were to be with Sam and leave the guild behind. To paraphrase another beloved author, "[Sam] is the love she thinks she wants, while [Derek] is the love she needs to push her to grow." But the obvious passion she feels for Derek is amazing!

The council is also gross... they want one of them (old men) to bond to Malina?? More than likely just to ensure she remains under their thumb. But they also don't know that she's already bonded to someone! When Malina is mouthing off to them, they continue to be dismissive. Unfortunately Malina doesn't know the intimate history between her mother and Grandmaster Baran (which was revealed during TSV) so the reader knows this would be a very bad idea. Their dismissal of Malina is hurtful, but their twisting events to suit their own narrative towards the end of TBTOF is absolutely maddening!

At a little over half-way through, we have a chapter full of twists and turns! Charity wove these into the story so so well! My mind was reeling after reading through this spot. Essentially, the Derek that Malina has been spending time with is not the Derek that left at the end of TKOT, but is a future version (since he's the new God of Time). Sam also seemed to fulfill his "task" of breaking Malina and Derek's bond, and then just poofs away! Derek then lets Malina know that her bond with original Derek is still intact and she should be able to find him when she leaves their little safe house. He looks at her so longingly as she leaves since we also learn that he's lived without her for so long. But perhaps the breaking of this bond with alt-Derek awakened Malina's full Key powers?

I do love the return of sassy, flirty Derek from TKOT. He also has the memories of alt-Derek from their safe house, and wants those moments again with Malina. When he says:
"All right, I'll work for that kiss, then. However long it takes. I'd wait a thousand years if I know those lips would be mine and only mine." **swoon!** But Malina wonders if she should truly give herself to him since she knows he'll be heartbroken for thousands of years after she dies. Yes girl, do it!

I love the storytelling that Charity provides with this series. I was fully committed to this story from the beginning, and I cannot wait until book 3 is ready! If you like slow burn romance, forced proximity, love triangle, a unique magic system, meddling gods, epic violence and adventure, give this series a read!
