Pretty standard Anna Hackett, a fun space romp that follows a queen and her head guard fighting to escape a dangerous planet, while also fighting their long-standing desire for each other.
I wouldn’t say this particular series has been my favorite or the strongest, but it adds something a little different if you’re looking for a romance that also follows a well-thought out, if somewhat basic plot.
Honestly, what’s most impressive about Anna Hackett is how she can almost grab unlimited plot and setting combo ideas from the writing universe, and we also get the added bonus of having a guaranteed spicy HEA romance thrown in💙

The Knightqueen along with her Knightguard Sten have been abducted by their mortal enemy. They must find a way to stay alive in hopes they will be rescued. Along the way, they find much more than they thought possible.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Eon series and couldn't wait to delve into the Orinis Knights with the sexy alpha men and women. Knightqueen is the third and final great book in the series and was as good as I had remembered from my first time reading it.
A great actioned packed read.

May 25, 2024Well, I tried. Pity those covers couldn't make up for the stories. While I loved the idea, the execution didn't leave me wanting for more, and while the characters were nice people, I just couldn't get into the story.

I can say I enjoyed it and it was a solid finish to the series as a whole.
I know that none of Anna’s books are super long and she kept a good pace without a lot of fluff in this one.
Overall I’d say I like these two characters really well compared to the others and felt a good connection with them. Carys was easy to like and Sten, while being stubborn was still likable as well.
Nicely done. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next in the genre.

When last we left our heroes – actually, in this particular case, it’s more like “when first we met our heroes” back in the first book in the Oronis Knights series, Knightmaster. In the first story, the Oronis had just welcomed a delegation from Terra, our very own Earth, in the hopes of forging an alliance to fight the rapacious Gek’Dragar.
The Terrans had already formed a similar alliance with the Eons, in spite of a somewhat rocky beginning, as part of the stories told in the marvelous Eon Warriors series. The Eons are long-standing allies of the Oronis, and now all three planets face the same enemy, the Gek’Dragar.
“The enemy of my enemy is my friend” as that saying goes. Not that this alliance was EVER smooth sailing, as it began back in Knightmaster with the Gek’Dragar kidnapping the Oronis Knightqueen and her Knightguard, and framing the Terrans for the crime.
But once that misdirection got straightened out, the Oronis and the Terrans have been on a joint mission to rescue the Knightqueen – assuming that she and her Knightguard don’t manage to rescue themselves, first.
Which is where we left those heroes at the end of the second book in the series, Knighthunter. That hunter team blew open and blew up the prison where the queen and her bodyguard, were being held, and Carys and Sten escaped in the chaos.
Meaning that they unknowingly ran away from their rescuers, jumped out of the frying pan into the fire – sometimes literally – and have spent the past several days outrunning their Gek’Dragar pursuers, throwing off the effects of the drugs they were injected with that suppressed their normally formidable powers, and generally running themselves into the ground.
Because the monsters on this hellhole planet are just as deadly as the Gek’Dragar – if not maybe a bit worse – and Carys and Sten have no weapons or armor until their powers return.
All they have is each other. Which has always been more than enough – even if neither of them has ever admitted that to themselves – let alone each other.
It’s not right, it’s not proper, for a Knightqueen to fall in love with her Knightguard. But this time, it’s inevitable.
Escape Rating B+: Knightqueen is the culmination of the whole, entire Oronis Knights series – which is only three books long. Meaning that, on the one hand, you really do kind of need to start at the beginning with Knightmaster, while on the other hand, three novellas is just a lovely amount of reading for a rainy spring weekend – of which there are PLENTY this time of year!
Knightqueen is a bodyguard romance. Maybe not exactly like the movie – certainly the SFnal setting if Knightqueen is literally light years away from the movie – but the trope is the trope is the trope – and it’s ALL here in Knightqueen.
Except the music, so you’ll just have to bring your own. I kept hearing Whitney Houston singing “I Will Always Love You” in the back of my mind as I read – and it took the longest time to figure out why.
Unlike the movie, the ending of Knightqueen results in a resounding HEA. That may seem like a bit of a spoiler, but all of this author’s stories end in either an HEA or an HFN depending on just how FUBAR the world they are set on happens to be.
It is part of why I enjoy her work so much.
But this particular entry in the series hit one of my less than favorite tropes pretty hard. The relationship between Carys and Sten does have its questionable aspects, she’s queen, he’s her bodyguard, he’s over a decade older which isn’t itself enough to make things squicky but he watched her grow up which is at least on the border of questionable.
As it’s usually not so much the years as the mileage, it’s not the age difference per se so much as it is that Carys is inexperienced with romantic relationships – which is not a surprise as she’s been queen from a very young age and it would never have been politically safe for her to go on dates or experiment with either love or sex.
Nevertheless, the trope that this fell into that put me off a bit was that Sten had a really bad case of the “I’m not worthy’s” that was a whole lot more personal and ingrained in his psyche than just the difference in their respective stations. This is a “me” thing and may not be a “you” thing.
Putting it another way – I did love the bodyguard romance but wasn’t thrilled with how little the bodyguard thought of himself in it. Your reading mileage obviously may vary.
That being said, I still had a grand time with the entire Oronis Knights series and am a bit sorry to see it come to end even though I’m happy to see the Gek’Dragar put in their place – a grave.
As this series has come to a close – and doesn’t end with teasers for a spinoff, it looks like the author will be turning back to contemporary action adventure romances for most of this year. Leaving this reader looking forward to the next book in her Unbroken Heroes series, The Hero She Craves, coming next month!

The final Oronis Knight book is here and we finally get to find out what has been happening with Knightqueen Carys and her Knightguard Sten. In the previous book we learned that Carys and Sten had used the distraction that Knighthunter Kaden and Knightmaster Nea created to escape the Gek’Dragar prison. This book picks up shortly after that as they try to continue to evade the Gek’Dragar and the mutated beasts on Ti-Lore.
Knightqueen Carys is a kind and just ruler, but in this we see that she is also a deadly warrior and a woman who just wants to be loved. Knightguard Sten has been guarding Carys since she was seventeen and his love for her has grown as the years passed but he ignores it because he is her guard. While these two evade the Gek’Dragar and the monsters on the surface, they finally realize their mutual feelings for each other. Sten tries to fight it but after a close call he stops. Carys and Sten’s relationship was enjoyable and I loved seeing the strong and mostly silent Sten profess his feelings for Carys.
The final battle against the Gek’Dragar and their Blue Death weapon was action packed and intense. The Blue Death weapon sounds horrifying and all the Knights fought hard to stop them from releasing it. Knightqueen Carys really shines in this battle because not only do we see her leading the Knights against the Gek’Dragar, but we get to see the true power of her bloodline and what it can do. She was quite badass and I loved seeing her fight. One thing about this world that I loved was that the Knightqueen was just as skilled as her knights and I love that this diplomatic ruler can also kickass.
Overall, this was a great ending to this series. I really enjoyed Carys and Sten’s story and how the Gek’Dragar were defeated again. Sten will make a great King for Carys and the epilogue was very cute seeing a brief glimpse of their future.

The third and final Oronis Knights story, tells the tale of the Knightqueen Carys, and her devoted Knightguard Sten.
When Carys and Sten were kidnapped by the Gek’Dragar, they knew their only hope of surviving was to escape. Now they find themselves struggling to survive on Ti-Lore, evading the fierce beasts that live there, as well as the Gek’Dragar determinedly searching for them.
Seeing all the terrible things that the Gek’Dragar have done, Knightqueen Carys knows she will have to do something about it, and she also knows that there is no one she would rather be with than her Knightguard.
As Carys and Sten negotiate their responsibilities and feelings, we finally get to see a resolution to this kidnapping, that seems to have happened so long ago! Series fans will be glad to hear that we get to see the main characters from the two previous Oronis Knights books, plus some fan favourites from the Eon series (it’s actually well worth the reread of that series prior to reading this one just for that!).
The free bonus epilogue was also a lovely glimpse into the future, and I did enjoy that too.
I’m sad to see the end of the Oronis Knights, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and the engaging characters within it. This is a standalone romance, but it is set in a world where the background story actually goes through several books- so I highly recommend reading the other books in this trilogy first.
An entertaining read for the SFR fan, as well as Hacketteers, this is definitely worth it if you enjoy SFR with some hat tips to Star Wars and Indiana Jones!

No one does action adventure Sci-fi and romance all wrapped up in one fantastic story quite like Anna Hackett. In this third and last installment of the Oronis Knights. Carys and Sten were abducted in the last book by their arch enemies the Gek'Dragar . These are the same terrible a!lens that killed Carys's parents and tried to eliminate her as well. When we saw Carys and Sten last they just escaped from a Gek'Dragar prison and now they are on the run for their lives. They both need to get a message of to her knights because the Gek'Dragar have a weapon that will wipe out orno if they do t stop it. As all this action takes place Carys finally tells her Knight guard that she loves him and has loved him for years but was afraid he would only ever see her as a Queen and not as a woman. Sten has loved Carys for year but feels he's books and not worthy enough for her. In his heart she belongs to him and he will protect her with his life but he hides his deepest feeling from her. As the danger increases the knowledge that you have to truly love and accept because life is too short hits home hard. They no longer just want to survive and save their planet but they want to love and be loved for all tie.and its their love that will truly see them through. I loved this series and as always I'm so sad to see an Anna Hackett book come to an end. I hope she has something else coming soon . When Knightqueen Carys was abducted with her most loyal Knightguard Sten (Thorsten Carahan), he bound them together through a durabinding process that was unbreakable by anyone but Sten. They have been fighting wild animals and Gek’Dragar ever since their daring escape when their prison was attacked. After escaping in the midst of the melee, they have been running ever since.

Carys is no damsel in distress, she is a highly trained warrior in her own right. Sten sees himself as her shield and her sword but Carys is equally protective of Sten. I loved it when they finally got their heads on straight and just gave in to that long simmering attraction. There was only a slight wobble when Sten thought he should give up Carys for the good of the throne but she soon put him right! And their attraction - work kept secret on Oron!
Battles, bioweapons and burgeoning friendships with the native population are all layers to the story. The Gek really are hard-core horrors! Carys also finally accesses the ultimate level of her innate power - it is a glorious and powerful thing to see. And the cameos from the Eon Warriors are always welcome.
And that epilogue! It was so nice to see out MC's settled in the future and what lies in wait for them!

Knightqueen Carys is up and she's trying to work her way back to her people to stop whatever terrible thing the Gek'Dragar have in store for them. Considering she and Sten were kidnapped (royal and guard-napped?), held prisoner on a distant world, escaped from said captivity, and are now on the run from their captors, they have a lot going on.
Given the intense situation they're in, it's no wonder the two of them lose the fight against their long-standing emotions for one another. Yes, these two have MANY FEELINGS about the other, but they've both been pushing them down because she's the queen and he's her guard. Never mind that they work well together, have nothing but the best interests of their people at heart, and are willing to do anything to keep the other safe. Oh, wait. Never mind that never mind. These two are PERFECT for one another.

Everything Carys was doing was for the well-being and safety of her people. She had her own Knightguard to protect her, but what about her feelings and deep desires, who took care of them? She knew who she wanted but it seemed the feelings were not mutual. She had been kidnapped by the enemy, but she was not alone and despite the horrible circumstances in which she found herself, she had more than one opportunity before her, and she did not plan to let them escape. Sten had been fighting for a long time against his own wishes and protecting the queen, for him, that was what mattered most and nothing more. Huh! And all the time chanting the same. What intensity of feelings and fighting against oneself! Stan kept my heart tight thinking about everything he was willing to give up for his queen. Together they were a front of power ready to confront the enemy. The story kept me intrigued, suffering the things that happened to them and hoping for the best. Carys surprised me with the way she dealt with the adversity that came their way. I found the participation of characters from the previous stories exciting, and I even cheered. Lots of action, suspense, strong emotions, monsters, danger, violence, romance, and passion. A good end to the Oronis Knights series.

If you love a sci-fi, fast action, adventure filled with some romance and aliens, Knightqueen (book 3) by Anna Hackett is for you. I do recommend you read Books 1 and 2 to get the full experience. This book is somewhat of a conclusion to the ongoing battle between the conquering enemy race called Gek'Dragar and the (Planet) Oron and their allies. Each book revolves around a different set of characters, so you get a good intro to the story world and the war going on. In this story, Knightqueen Carys of the Oron people and her champion Sten basically hold the fate of the battle in their hands-if they can survive long enough on the hostile planet they were kidnapped and taken too. With the help of old and new friends, they just might get the chance. It's a fun, easy read that will leave you satisfied- and eager for more. Especially when the author makes the "world" building and non-main characters so fascinating. I can recommend. I received an ARC and was happy to give a review.

I love that almost the whole Oronis Series had been focused on rescuing the Knightqueen, but she and her Knightguard, Sten rescue themselves.
They battle through mutated animals and strange landscapes and discover an indigenous people enslaved by the Gek’Dragar and they strike up a friendship.
Old broken communicator is fixed by Sten and in very little time they are leaving the planet Tri-Lore behind, surprised by the Terran ship arriving to pick them up.
There have been hints on what the Gek’Dragar are creating to destroy Oron and it involves the mining fluid created on Tri-Lore…
Eon warships arrive to help them and an enemy warship crash lands on Oron..
Carys taps into a well of energy available to the royal family, which neutralises the poison and she claims Sten as her Knightking.
Gek’Dragar are defeated and all the planets invaded by them are freed.
Good conclusion to an interesting story.

Knightqueen is the third and last book in the Oronis Knights series by Anna Hackett, and closely follows books 1 (Knightmaster) and 2 (Knighthunter). Although each book features a different couple, the background plot is common to all three and I would recommend reading them in order.
I loved book 1, then was slightly disappointed with book 2, and went back to loving book 3. I had high expectations for Carys and Sten's story, and they did not disappoint.
I would have liked, however, a bit more plot development in some places, especially in what concerns their past relationship (other than the obvious fact that he was her bodyguard and they were both attracted to each other for years).
Other than that, Knightqueen is a great conclusion to the series and I hope there are more related books to follow.

I enjoyed this book. I sort of regret jumping into the last book of the trilogy first just because some details are alluded to but you don't know the full story. You are told enough to know how the characters got where they are. I like how strong and capable Carys is and despite needing to protect her constantly Sten acknowledges her strength and doesn't keep her in the back all the time. I like the love that has happened over years of being friends. It is represented in many different ways but I like when it's both sides who already love each other and think the other doesn't. I'm less of a fan of one being in love and the other finally noticing them and such. This one was definitely mutual attraction suppressed. I enjoyed the worlds and the people that Anna created and I look forward to reading the first 2 as well as the Eon Warriors series.

So we finally get to read Carys and Stens romance and this was just such a fun and fast paced adventure. These Oronis Knights are just so loyal and fierce and Sten is absolutely about to be bamboozled by his Knight Queen.
They might have escaped their imprisonment by the brutal Gek’Dragar but they still need to get off the planet and somehow find the way home. With bizarre creatures and a dangerous environment to contend with how can Sten hope to protect his true Queen ? Carys is no figurehead though but fierce in her own right and tired of ignoring her feelings for the only male she's ever wanted. Get ready for a cracking story that kept me eagerly turning the pages .

This is the third and final book in the Oronis Knights Series, a Sci-Fi Romance. This is a series of interconnected stories, with an ongoing plot. I like this series. Carys and Thorsten/Sten's slow burn romance is entertaining, action packed and suspenseful. Sten, the Knightguard, is handsome and protective. I liked his determination. Carys, the Knightqueen, is beautiful, strong, smart and caring. They are perfect together. The world building is captivating. Stella Bloom and Aaron Shedlock did an outstanding job bringing these characters and this story to life. I enjoyed it. If you like Sci-Fi Romance, this series is for you.

Wow! This was an awesome finale and it was very much action-packed and intense. Knightqueen Carys and Kightguard Sten manage to escape the Gek'Dragar but they don't end up in any kind of safe place. Their skills and determination to live were definitely pushed to the max. This story flows well, has great high stakes tension and a deep and strong chemistry that lets our couple get that wonderful HEA. As with any book by this author, you'll find you can't put it down until you hit the end...and then finding yourself wishing there was more ;P Good fun!

Oronis Knights book 3. A fanfreakingtastic read. The Knightqueen and her Knightguard battle the evil aliens that captured them and is set on destroying their planet. The two escape and is on a mission to get back to their planet and saves everyone. On this action packed journey they stop battling their feelings for each other. Chemistry off the charts and smexy. This book is angsty, dramatic, action filled with plenty of WTF craziness. Awesome to see other characters from the other books in the series. This is the last installment and it is a worthy ending.

Great end to the series!
I am so glad to have had a new sci Fi from Anna. In my opinion, they are her best work by far. The world's and relationships she builds in these far flung galaxies and worlds are so creative. And I absolutely loved Carys and Sten. Both well developed, layered and interesting. Anna Hackett is one of the best at creating turning and twisting plots that make it hard to put down, even to sleep:). I truly hope she comes out with another sci Fi romance series, as they are my absolute favorite of any author.

This is the final book in a trilogy that is connected to another series, but it can be read as a standalone. There is a lot to enjoy in this book; action, alien creatures, energy powers, humor, suspense, twists, and romance. It was wonderful to see characters from previous books. Sten and Carys are great together, balancing and supporting each other. This is a very satisfying conclusion to the series. I can’t wait to see what the author comes up with next!

This was the perfect ending. Seeing what Sten and Carys endured and fought through to finally realize their feelings. Then to the adventure of getting off planet. Then to discover the alliances with the Eon Warriors !!! This was such an adventure and rea!!y a great closure. I would so much want more but this was great. Thank you as always Anna Hackett. Now to the next adventure.
