The Bloodletter, Part of Jed Kent's Spinner Series, comes with his best, most thrilling psychological horror yet. In the heart of darkness, where ancient rituals bleed into the tapestry of modern crime. The Bloodletter unveils a chilling journey through the depths of human depravity. When a series of ritualistic murders terrorizes Portland, Oregon, a team led by FBI Agent James Steele delves into a realm where the echoes of sacred rites and the shadows of forgotten lore converge. Noah stands on the brink of finishing his residency after years of medical school. He is stuck grappling with the shadows of his mother’s unresolved disappearance. His journey is marked by vulnerability and a relentless quest for truth. Isabella, a tenacious Portland police officer, finds herself at the heart of the case that will redefine her understanding of justice and true evil. The Bloodletter intricately knots the fates of these characters into a haunting narrative, challenging the boundaries between the sacred and the profane. Comes with a Bonus Short Story, 'The Circle.'
Jed Kent is a masterful weaver of psychological thrillers and horror, drawing readers into the shadowy depths of the human psyche with his gripping narratives. Residing in the picturesque Pacific Northwest (PNW), Jed finds himself surrounded by the region's natural beauty and enigmatic landscapes, which serve as the perfect canvas for his dark and intricate stories.
Alongside his wife and family, Jed lives a life that balances the tranquility of the PNW with the thrill of crafting stories that challenge the boundaries between reality and the macabre. His novels are not just books but portals to worlds where the line between sanity and madness is as thin as the paper they're printed on. Join him as he continues to explore the darkest corners of the human experience, leaving readers both haunted and eagerly anticipating what nightmares he will conjure up next.
Noah Steele along with his fiance are dealing with Noah's mom disappearing along with Noah trying to finish up his hospital residency. In the meantime, murders are happening in Portland Oregon that are taking up the time of the police force. Things have been set into motion from the past when Noah's father, James Steele used to work with the FBI and the murders are tied into something from the past which has stepped onto the toes of the future.
Thoughts:
This book was a slow burn up to the 40% mark as it seemed to take forever to get moving and there are two parts to the story. But the second part of the story does a lot of "past jumping" as it goes from a time when the character Noah is a toddler back to when before he was born then keeps going back into time. I am not into jumping around in time and it can get confusing as just when you think you have it figured out with what is going on the author sends you back further into time to start over with a new twist. There was too much confusion for me to keep up with what was happening and what time zone.
If the story had been told a different way without all the time jumping this book would have been easily a four or five star read, but I am not into time travel stories when the story keeps moving from one zone to another. A story can be told without all the jumping around and after reading this story I was exhausted. Giving this book two "Time Travel Woes" stars!
The Bloodletter by Jed Kent started off a little slow for me, but it picked up quickly. A mixture of psychological horror and supernatural made this an exciting read. I am usually able to see the twists coming, but did not guess the ending to this one.
The Bloodletter did start off a bit slow but picked up quickly. Kept you guessing with twists and turns. This is one ending you will not see coming. This is a good read
This is one twisted novel! The story was so original and I liked how it had such a intriguing story. I really loved Kent’s novella The Beastly Whispers so I was thrilled when I got an early copy of this novel. I was blown away how good it is. The characters were great. I really liked how Isabella is portrayed as the smart one in a room full of men. Her character was awesome! It was a bloody good read!
But I need to think about this before the review.. Guys ahh
Okay I'm back to finish this review.
I love, love, love this troupe, but the thing is I don't normally find it in the horror arena, which sucks because this was exactly the kind of FBI psychology horror thriller I have apparently been vaguely looking for lol
There's another series I found a million years ago, that hits close to the feelings and vibes I got while reading but is still too much Psy thriller and not enough horror, but still amazing.
When I found this, I got excited, but reservations.
I need more of this but I'm afraid to ask for it, because let's face it, this is a horror story, and they never end, well.
I realized partially through this book, at some point Kent had me emotionally invested in James, I was getting anxious and that's when I knew, I had found a new author to add to my list of favorites.
This novel actually surprised me. It is a great blend of psychological horror, mystery, and the supernatural. The author does not hold back in his graphic descriptions. This story was mostly surprising because of the twists and characters that really were described well. It was an interesting idea to put the story in the order it is with part one and part two. Part two really kept me turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. This novel is very thought-provoking. The author really did a great job blending an intriguing yet pretty horrific story.
This novel rocks! I love a good horror story and I found this to be an original take on a vampire type story without ever saying vampire. Kent's novel is complex and story driven which was refreshing. Highly recommend to anyone who is a fan of psychological horror!
This is a WTF did I just read in the best ways! Twists after twists! Well executed story! I want this novel to become a movie! Absolutely amazing story! It’s graphic, it’s full of twists and that ending! The Bloodletter’s ending is one that should be discussed, just wow! Holy shit man!
This was my third book by Jed Kent and my favorite so far. I love the idea of the spinners, I love Revekah and Noah's story and James and Sara's story and how it all comes together! Vert good book.
If you think this is just your typical vampire story you would be mistaken! Original take on the idea and extremely well thought out. Twisted, surprising, excellent story. This novel really is a mixture of Anne Rice and Thomas Harris. What are you waiting for? Read this F*cking book!
While I really like horror I rarely like serial killer stories because they have an issue with all sounding the same after a while. This book is not that. The story was very original. It kept me constantly thinking and honestly I don’t think anyone could see that ending coming. So glad I got an early copy. Kent made a captivating book and I hope he continues to release more horror. I believe it’s his niche.
