Her father’s announcement that the time had come for her to take a husband caught Jianna Outlaw off guard. Her best friend’s offer to step up and marry her was an even bigger surprise. Now, Jianna wonders if letting her homeboy get involved is the answer to her prayers or the world’s biggest mistake.
Jianna “Law” Outlaw doesn’t consider herself a crime princess, even though her father is most definitely a criminal. She considers herself a regular woman with a regular life. That is until her father drops the bomb right before her birthday that the time has arrived for her to fulfill her duty as an Outlaw by marrying. He will do the picking and all of the candidates will be the sons of his associates. To add insult to injury, her father has three will live with her new husband. She will produce offspring.Barring any abuse or mitigating circumstances, she will stay in the marriage for the long haul.Jianna is outraged, but she knows better than to cross her father.
Dolton Hill has been one of Jianna’s closest friends since the sandbox. Growing up in a crime family taught Dolton not to trust, and after a college girlfriend played with his heart, he doubled down on that idea... Except when it comes to Jianna. Dolton trusts Jianna with his life. When her father tries to marry her off, Dolton knows he has to step up for his friend. He offers to marry her… but then he learns of her father’s stipulations.
Can Dolton and Jianna pull off the charade? Will their platonic love for one another morph into something more, or have they both signed up for a loveless marriage?
I loved the friendship between Jianna and Dolton. They were best friends’ “platonic” friends who knew the other inside and out and were ten toes down for each other. When the bomb was dropped on Jianna about her upcoming nuptials, Dolton is not about to let just anyone be with “his” Law. Although he had never thought of Jianna in a romantic way, he was willing to do this for her, as the love was so strong in their friendship. Let the courtship begin.
Jianna was mad as hell at her father for making her do this. Then presenting her all those losers ass prospects too. She was over it all. When Dolton threw his name in the ring as a potential husband, she was stunned. Why? He is my friend and doesn’t see me like that.
Once these two got onboard with the courtship, and released each other from the friendzone, it was on and poppin’. Dolton was not playing around, and wanted to show Jianna what he could bring to the table. Jianna was skeptical at first, but after she got a taste of those lips, she was done for. Their ease from friends to lovers was smooth, and it was cute to experience them falling in love.
Now, the incident that ended in tragedy, seemed to just come out of nowhere. I understand a little drama is needed in a story, but that? Just didn’t sync with me. Then Jianna’s behavior toward the end seemed out of character for her, when compared to how she was presented earlier in the read. I enjoyed this for the most part.
3.5 Overall raring The plot was solid but I wanted more of the feels. I am just getting into the friends to lovers trope but I thought the change up was fast. I would read this author again.
It took a good while for me to warm up to Law and Doll's love. Just about all of my reservations were addressed by the end of the story. I'm glad they were able to get their HEA
I loved these two. Their friendship was so sweet and easily transitioned into a romantic love. Their love was so easy and had me smiling the whole time. Great read!
Although interesting, there were way too many characters to keep track of. In addition there was not enough genuine interaction between Jianna and Dolton. Dolton's name made me think of the word DOLT, every time I read it. And that's not good.
Also adding in all of the "brothers" with names beginning with the letter "D", was really distracting. Nevertheless, the few times that Jianna and Dolton honestly connected with each other, saved this rating from being 2 stars.
Dolton and Jianna (Law) have been friends since the sandbox. Having grown up in crime families, certain things were expected and Law's father expected her to be married now that her birthday is approaching. Rather than let Law be subjected to unfit men, Dolton steps up to the plate and volunteers to marry her instead. The way that Dolton and Law cared about each other before becoming more than friends was truly heart-warming. I loved how once they were all-in, they didn't let anything come between them not even her father. Since they were friends for so long and they knew each other so well, no drama entered their relationship which I just loved. I'm a huge fan of the friends to lovers trope and I absolutely loved Dolton and Law. Since I've read their story, I'm going to go back and read some of the other characters' books. Another great job by Ms. Gray!!!
This was such a cute story, a perfect palate cleanser after some darker reads. Law and "Doll" are two strictly platonic bffs. When Law is forced by her dad to pick a husband, Dolton steps up to the plate to marry his best friend.
Their move from friends to lovers was beautiful. Dolton went all in, taking Jihanna by surprise. There was very little drama, no terrible 3rd act breakup, that made me want to pull my hair out.
I did have a hard time keeping some of the names straight for the other characters. This book may be connected to others by the way it's written, but I didn't see that in the description. This was my first book by the author, so I'm familiar with her back list.
I would highly recommend for anyone looking for something short, sweet, and little to no drama.
“Law & Loyalty” was a mediocre read. Foremost, the book had a much better ending than the first half of the book. Nonetheless, I just didn’t believe Jianna & Dolton’s journey. I definitely understand & commend them both for maintaining a platonic relationship/friendship (with no weird & or sexual benefits) for so many years. However, their transition from friends to lovers was awkward, bazaar & unnatural. …Maybe the Hill’s will grow & evolve over time 🤷🏾♀️🫣‼️
First read by this author. This was. Good story line. I loved the character development. The dynamic of main characters was very cute I love that they were best friends that built up on their relationship. The friendship is definitely what keeps them going. I felt like I was however missing part of the story of the family like maybe it's in another book that I should have read first. But all in all a good book. Will read more from this author.
This had a lot of potential to be a great story, but in the act of trying not to have 'action' it came off as boring and missing something. A lot could have been done with this storyline of arranged marriage, friends to lovers type of storyline, this just fell flat. I do appreciate the characters being mature yet knew how to have fun and let their hair down regardless of their careers. This was close but no cigar.
This might be the best friends to love I’ve read. I love how it just flowed even when it felt weird to them. They had me chuckling, flat out laughing and just cheesing throughout their journey. I wish Gianni lived to see his daughter become a wife but I’m glad he at least knew he left her in good hands. Loved this read. A book has to really be good for me to give 5stars but this one earned it.
Dolton and Jianna ❤️. Dolton's unwavering commitment to protect Jianna, his best friend, is heartwarming. I loved seeing them take the leap into romance. It felt like their love was always there, just waiting for them to acknowledge it. They had such a strong bond that they initially blocked themselves from even considering a romantic relationship, but when they finally did, it was truly special.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️|🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ This good was sooo good and definitely deserves a read and review! I really loved how they switched to best friends to lovers. It was so realistic and relatable. Dolton was applying that pressure so seamlessly I loved it. The story was written so well and the spice was good! I have no complaints! Well done to this author and I would definitely be reading more from her!
It was ok. I enjoyed the evolution of the friendship.
The down rating of the book is due to my thoughts about the sudden death of her father and her grieving process. At several points in the book she wasn’t even fond of her dad.
I also wondered what happened to Donovan’s fiancé???? Was Donovan not wanting to build a relationship with Doll because he was jealous? We were just left hanging. Doll tried to help him.
Strange but good read. I had a time keeping up with the “D’s” and “J’s. Storyline was nothing I had ever read before. It was very interesting too. It will either keep your interest or make you put it down. No in between. Jianna and Dolton weren’t the traditional couple they proved that friends can remain friends and love each other.
That was such a sweet story. I loved how honest and straightforward they were about their feelings, even in what could have been an awkward situation. It was nice to read, as many times with this trope, the feelings are always hidden and ignored. I really liked this story.
Jianna and Dolton’s friendship formed a solid foundation for their relationship despite how it started. Despite Jianna’s father forcing them to carry through with this marriage they learned to love each other above their friendship and find their forever love with each other.
I was up late reading this. I was able to read it in one go but it was well-written. I loved the plot twists and how seamlessly it was interwoven so that it was believable. The characters felt real and the build up between Doll and Law was incredible. Their chemistry leaped off the pages. My first time reading from this author and I'm curious to read her other works. Highly recommend.
Not usualya fan of the friends to lover romance. This one hit different. It was true and easy to fall into. I will say the ending felt unbelievable as Law went the entire book not really close to her dad so her reaction was different. However it doesn't take from the book. I loved it
Ms Gray always gave great reads and they only get better. From Chris Cross to Doll & Law, I’ve loved every bit. There was a bit of sad but it was so well balanced in the frame of this and I’m gonna say it’s def a keeper. So much love for this author
Best friends, Jianna and Dolton (aka Law and Doll) loved each other as friends and agreed to marry each other due to Law’s father basically forcing her into an arranged marriage. We were able to partake in this evolution of best friends love to be in romantic love. Beautifully written. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Law & Loyalty is my introduction to Tracy Gray. Great storyline, awesome secondary characters and plenty of fire. I love the dynamics of both Law and Dolton's family. Best friends to lovers!! I'll definitely check out other books by this author. Thank you Tracy Gray.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This was a new to me author and I jumped on this read once I saw arranged marriage trope. This was a cute read, I wasn’t expecting to shed a few tears at the end. I enjoyed the seamless transition from best friends to lovers.
I loved the no drama, drama! I mean it had drama, but not the typical relationship drama you read in romance novels. Honestly, its just a really good story. I really enjoyed it!
What A ride, what a love, what kind of happiness have I missed. This was excellent well written story. This story played with all my emotions. Dolton and Jianna had mad love to each other. Thanks for the happy ending.
Doll and Law was super cute. Doll was not just letting anyone marry his best friend, and he found something special in the end. This was a good friends to lovers story.
Friend to lovers is one of my favorite genres. Loved how Dolton stepped up to save his best friend Jianna/Law from being forced into an arranged marriage by her father. My first book by this author but definitely not my last. Kudos to the author👏🏾👏🏾
I loved everything about this book from the best friends to lovers. To the med school group and the siblings. The no drama was an added bonus. Well definitely read more from this author.
So sweet! I love how the love transitioned. This might be one of my favorite reads of the year. Everything was so right, the dialogue, the chemistry, the family dynamics, and the HEA!!!!! I LOVED EVERY SECOND! Such a good read.
