The Love Fixers

Rate this book
**Book One in a new series of romantic comedies by USA Today-bestselling author Angela Casella**

Send help and wine. My sister is trying to set me up with the grump next door.

Claire
A few hours after losing my job, I get a call from a stranger who claims I’ve inherited property from my father. I assume it’s a scam, because my dad is very much alive. Turns out my mother is the liar.

I board a flight to my bio-dad’s hometown, hoping for answers, but the turbulence is so bad I worry we won’t make it. Declan, the hot, tattooed hunk next to me, is obviously terrified too. When the plane freefalls for half a second, he kisses me with the passion of a man who thinks he’s about to die. He seems to regret it immediately afterward—and we both regret it when we discover he’s my new next door neighbor, a complication neither of us wants.

To make matters worse, it turns out my bio-dad’s cabin is only half mine. The rest belongs to a half-sister I didn’t know I had—Nicole, a pink-haired private investigator and possible psychopath.

If I weren’t unemployed and broke, I’d leave, but this crappy half-a-house is my only possession. So I stay in the hopes that I can convince her to sell. Unfortunately, she seems intent on setting me up with Declan, among other manipulations, and her matchmaking tactics are…extreme.

Declan
I came to the mountains to hide and be left alone, and now I’m never alone.

Every time I turn a corner, I run into Claire Rainey. She’s tempting as hell, particularly now that I’ve had a taste of her, but I know better than to wrap her up in my trouble—or get wrapped up in hers.

DNF at 17%.

I don't have patience for manwhore heroes who don't want a relationship.

It's so irritating to have him say he "hasn't had sex in a while" but it was only a few weeks ago and he has multiple "friends with benefits". Makes me think there's going to be other woman drama.

This book is the first book in a new rom com series and it was lots of fun.

Claire finds out that the biological father she didn’t know existed has died and left her his house, but there are a few catches. One is that she lives in the house for a month and another is that she share it with the sister she also didn’t know existed! And to complicate things more, the hot stranger on the plane is her new neighbor.

I thought this was a fun read. I liked the side characters, especially Nicole, the sister and private investigator. This was a romcom that also had a bit of mystery.

I will say that this was a slow read. I think that if it was half the length I would have enjoyed it more. I also thought the secret and mystery dragged on and in the end they were underwhelming.

Read if you like:
* Romcom
* Grumpy - Sunshine
* Found family
* Small town
* A fun meet-cute and chemistry

Thank you to Hambright Media for the digital copy.

Within hours of losing her job, Claire receives a call from a stranger that she inherited property from her dad, but her dad is alive. Turns out, her dad isn’t her biological dad. So she hops on a plane to go figure things out. On the plane, she’s seated next to Declan, who is a major hottie. When there’s bad turbulence, and they think the plane is going down, Declan kisses her. She finally makes it to the house and not only learns that Declan is her next door neighbor, but that she also has a half sister. On top of that, the life insurance company doesn’t want to pay, so Claire and her sister set out to figure out what happened to their dad.

I was really looking forward to reading this book, and I really wanted to love it. The last book I read by this author was a 5 star read for me. Unfortunately, this one just didn’t work for me. It felt very slow and drawn out. Her sister Nicole really annoyed me for a good part of the book. That may have been the author’s intention, but it annoyed me to the point where I didn’t want to read the book. I get adding in the mystery to the book, but I wasn’t really here for it this time. I think it’s because we were told that the characters were investigating what happened to their father, but we didn’t actually ever experience much of the investigating. So that part of the plot never really felt fully flushed out.

There was also this “thing” that Declan was keeping from Claire at first about his past. It was kind of repetitively mentioned and it got annoying. It was made out to be this HUGE deal and it really didn’t feel that huge.

Declan did seem like a vulnerable guy and that Claire really helped him open up so that was kind of nice to read. I did enjoy their chemistry. However, even their relationship felt that it was based on superficialness.

Overall, I really wanted this to be better. I felt like I was forcing myself to read it. BUT, like I always say, this is just MY opinion. Others have loved it, and maybe you will too!

Grumpy/Sunshine in ALL it's glory, The Love Fixers took my January blues and turned them into giggles and big smiles.

When our "meet cute" happens on a flight, these two main characters literally spring off the pages.

Claire is flying hone following the death of her father. She's made quite a mess of her life recently and when she is landed in a seat next to handsome traveler, everything changes.

Declan is just the right amount of sass and crass that will have you smiling and falling for him.

What I loved the most what the slight mystery Claire finds when returning home that surrounds her fathers passing.

I would re-read this immediately, it was such a joy. Thank you to Hambright PR and the Author (who will now be an auto-buy for me) for including me in the ARC read, such a good time.

This was cute, a little cringey but I enjoyed it overall. A rom-com with added mystery.

I really loved the meet cute and chemistry between Declan + Claire. The dynamic and banter the side characters added was fun and there were some great moments. The plot really intrigued me however there was just something missing for me. The mystery element and reveal felt a little underwhelming in the end.

I absolutely LOVED this book! This was my first Angela Casella read and I will definitely be coming back for the second book in this Unlucky in Love series. I didn’t realize that two of the side characters in this book, Nicole and Damien, already have their own book so I probably would have started there if I had done my research. But I still really enjoyed it as a stand alone!

This book is a slow burn romance between the FMC, Claire, and the MMC, Declan. There is an element of mystery throughout that I really enjoyed because I honestly had no idea “who done it” up until it was revealed. The romance is written so well that you almost forget that there is still a mystery to solve until it comes back around at the end!

Tropes include:
-Dual POV
-Small Town
-Slow Burn
-Grumpy / Sunshine
-Forced Proximity
-Found Family

I cant wait to read the next book in the series when it comes out in July!

tropes - small town romance comedy, grumpy x sunshine, bad boy hero, next door neighbor, close proximity, heroine with a secret sibling

This was such a fun read! I really enjoyed all of the characters, especially the side characters. Their individual personalities really make the book that much more enjoyable and they all bring something so interesting and fun to the main story.

I will also say the story leading up to the plot was a slower read, but it does pick up towards the last half of the book. If anything, the first half could have been shortened because it does make the book drag a bit and that causes the plot to feel so underwhelming once the great mystery is uncovered.

Read the blurb for an intro, I’m not going to repeat it.
1.5*. I’m rounding up to 2* only because the backbone of the story actually has some interesting ideas in it. But the writing is immature, repetitive, and relies way to much on sexual attraction for filler. The characters are one-dimensional stereotypes, and the story is a messy mashup of romance and mystery. I like when romances have an actual plot line other than just sexual attraction, hence rounding up, but everything about this- the plot, the characters, the writing - is too simplistic to be satisfying. Find something else to read, either cozy mystery or romance, and you’ll be better for it. I won’t be seeking out books from this author again.

This was meant to be a palate cleanser and left me with an annoying side character *who does things because it's just how she is* and the ability to skip literal pages and still keep up with the story. Good for a nonserious read but personally didn't kick my rocks.

out now • available on KU

I loved this book and it was exactly what I needed!!
I went in expecting just a rom com but it ended up being SO much more. 🤍

Claire - recently unemployed - gets an out of the blue phone call that her father has passed away. then she finds out that her biological father is not the man that raised her, and she has to travel to NC to receive her inheritance. While on the plane, seated next to a handsome man, they experience extreme turbulence and calm each other down, but then quickly find their way back to each after once the plane lands. When she arrives at her father’s house, she deep dives into the investigation to find out whether his death was an accident or murder…

This book was cute, funny, and mysterious all in one! I had so much fun reading it and picked it up absolutely every chance I got. I loved reading Claire + Declan’s POV of how they were falling for each other, while also trying to solve the mystery of her father. Multiple laugh out loud moments, witty banter, and humorous side characters all come together for an incredible read.

5 ⭐️

The rest of the series is also on KU and I can’t wait to continue. Thanks SO much to @hambright_pr and the author for my e-arc! I loved it!

Oh, this was so good. This is my first book by this author, and I'm eager to continue with the series!

First, we meet Claire, who, after losing her job, receives a call saying she has inherited property from her bio dad. When she arrives at said property, she meets her sister (another surprise!) who is a little, shall we say psychotic? This should be fun. We then meet Declan, a grumpy recluse with a ton of secrets. Of course, he wants nothing to do with Claire, except she's everywhere he turns. Can something beautiful become of these two confused and complicated souls?

This small town romance has mystery, a little spice, beautiful relationships, and relatable characters. I was hooked from the first page. Each chapter was engaging. As the events unfolded, I was more invested. By the end, I felt like I was living in the small town with these characters. That's how engrossed I became in the story.

I loved the main character, but this story had some of the most memorable side characters I've ever read. They were so much fun and added a lot to the story. I'm very excited to see what comes next in this series.

Thank you to The Author Agency and author Angela Casella for an e-ARC of this book. All opinions are my own, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I've loved all of Angela Casella's previous novels, so I wasn't worried about reading The Love Fixers. But, it was still a new series so you just never know. Trust me on this one, you should just know.

Claire loses her job and then finds out she has a bio-dad she's never heard of. Only, guess what? He's dead. Claire has to go check out his hometown and possibly take over his house. Except, guess who, NICOLE is her "new" half-sister. Yes, THE Nicole. I told you that you'd like this book. Not only that but Claire may have randomly kissed the super hot dude next to her on the plane. Oops!

True to Angela Casella fashion, this book has it all - romance, drama, friends, family, some mystery, dreams...The list goes on...She doesn't just write in one singular genre, which makes this book all the more interesting. I'm curious to see how she continues this series. If it's anything like her other series, I'm wondering if we are going to get to hear about Declan's sister!.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

“A person can always find imperfections if they don’t stop looking for them.”

I had a great time reading this book! It was a fast, fun, and light read, but it also showcased impressive character growth.
Claire, a people-pleaser, has spent seven years working under a boss who mistreated her and dating a man who belittled her. After getting fired, she receives a mysterious call informing her of an inheritance and instructing her to head to Marshall, North Carolina. Leaving New York behind, she boards a flight and unexpectedly finds herself seated next to a brooding, handsome stranger and an elderly woman.

When turbulence strikes, Declan, the brooding man, kisses Claire in a desperate attempt to calm himself. Neither of them expected to finish the flight and end up sharing a van to their final destination. After a flat tire, they share a heated make-out session that ends abruptly when Declan discovers she is the daughter of his late neighbor. The attraction between them is undeniable, but Declan tries to resist, knowing his secretive past might bring unwanted attention.

Claire discovers she only owns half of her father’s cabin, with the other half belonging to her newly revealed sister, Nicole, a bold and hilarious private investigator. Nicole is determined to play matchmaker between Claire and Declan while also investigating their father’s mysterious death. Their evolving sisterly relationship is touching, and Claire’s journey of finding her voice and standing up for herself is truly inspiring.

As Declan and Claire spend more time together, their connection grows deeper than just physical attraction. Declan, carrying the weight of his past, fears becoming romantically involved, but Claire makes him feel a happiness he hasn’t experienced in years. Likewise, Declan helps Claire embrace her confidence, and it’s heartwarming to see them fall in love.
While I enjoyed the romance and the mystery surrounding Claire’s father’s death, the middle portion of the book felt a bit slow. Still, the well-developed characters, humor, and emotional depth made this an enjoyable read.

Note: If insta-lust or insta-love isn’t your thing, this book may not be for you, but the mystery and character growth certainly make up for it.

Thank you so much to Hambright PR & Angela Casella for the complimentary copy of the ebook!

This book is out now.

This was my first Angela Casella book and I was drawn to all the tropes for this and thought this was definitely up my alley! What I didn't realize is that I was also getting a little mystery with my romance.

Claire and Declan meet on a plane and when they think they won't survive (bad turbulence) and in the rush of the moment, Declan decides to kiss Claire. Turns out to be the best kiss of their life and guess what, they do end up surviving their plane ride. Claire learned that her biological dad, Dick Ricci, died and left her property in a town called Marshall outside of Asheville and Declan lives next door.

I will say that I didn't think there was chemistry between the two at first but as the book went on it was becoming more believable. They were so attracted to one another and Claire was very into Declan.

"Fuck me."
"I'm trying to. I've been trying to."

One thing I thought was unique with this story compared to other contemporary romances I read is the openness of drug usage and growing. Their relationship and attraction grew the more they spent time with another building trust. Declan had a not so clean past and was scared that it would scare Claire away. When his reveal came, Claire did the opposite of run away but embraced Declan and loved him anyways.

Claire has so many changes in such a short time - she learns about her bio dad's death, this inheritance, Declan and a half sister, Nicole! Claire's relationship with her sister was fun to watch! Nicole was a hoot and I was so happy at how positive their relationship ended up being. And the ending - so sweet!

As I mentioned there is a mystery that takes place - did someone kill Claire's dad or was it truly an accident? Claire, Declan, Nicole and Damien all work together to figure out what truly happened with Dick. When everything hits the fan, I was not expecting all the action that took place!

I paired my reading with the audiobook and thought both narrators Ada Sinclair and Tyler Donne did a good job with their characters! Both were new narrators to me and I would listen to their narrations again.

This book is the first of a series and the next one will star Claire's best friend Lainey!

The Love Fixers is a witty, hilarious and fast-paced romantic comedy that will keep you turning the pages with anticipation and excitement. This is the first book in the "Unlucky in Love" series.

The story follows Claire who loses her job in an embarassingly dramatic way. Soon enough she receives a call from a stranger who claims that Claire has inherited property of her deceased father. But her father is alive and healthy as a horse. It turns out her biological father has died. With nothing to lose she boards up and leaves for this. On the plane that left like it was to dive into crash, she is kissed by Declan, a handsome hunk who apparently turned out to be her neighbour.

Chaos, utter surprise and it doesn't help when her now revealed half-sister, Nicole is trying everything to make Clare and Declan a couple. With everything spiralling out of control and emotions running amok, both of them are unsure about their story.

Having previously read Angela Casella's works, I was highly anticipating this book. And I was not disappointed at all. The story is not only fast-paced but the narrative is absolutely engaging. I was immediately immersed in the protagonist's Claire Rainey life events. The romance is hot and sizzling, their passion and attraction towards each other is undeniably magnetic. It was definitely a memorable read. I loved the dynamics between characters and the way the plot was executed, it will definitely imprint on your mind. And I'm just going to say it Mrs. Rosings is one of the best characters.

I will highly recommend this to romance readers who love a love story that stays with them long after turning the final page.

This was my first Angela Casella novel, and I absolutely loved every minute of it!

There are a bunch of mixed reviews surrounding this one, and I can understand where everyone is coming from. From every 1-star review to every 5-star review, there are things I agree with in full and things I disagree with and will start an argument over. But you know what? An opinion is an opinion, and I’m refusing to change my 5-star review to anything lower.

There’s the perfect mixture of slow burn, brooding, and mystery. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting the mystery (if it was written in the description, I didn’t read it - I just jumped right in), but it made me scream “WHAT IS DECLAN HIDING?!?!?” nearly every time his past was mentioned. Then when he finally admitted everything, there’s another twist of mystery surrounding Dick’s death…GOSH, there was so much substance to this book!

Claire is the sunshine to Declan’s gloominess, and together they make the perfect pair. I believe I single handedly fell in love with Nicole simply because she’s extra crazy, and I’m obsessed with it. The found family trope is troping.

I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series. If they’re anything like this one, I know I’m going to be a sucker for it.

Overall rating: 5/5
Spice: 2/5

4.0-4.5 stars. I have nothing but good feels for this small town steamy romcom. This was an unexpected fun time with lots of laughs. The mysterious death of Claire's biological dad and his will stipulations takes her on a journey to a small town with plenty of secrets and quirky characters. Once there, she and her half sister decide to search for clues on whether their dad's death was truly an accident or murder. The main couple for the steamy romance, Declan/Claire, loved them. Mrs. Rosings, the rich widow, was a sly old bird, full of snarky sass. But the standout character here was private investigator, Nicole, Claire's half sister. She's fierce, scary, hilariously sarcastic and surprisingly loyal to those she cares about. Her laid back husband, Damien, also a P. I., deserves creds just for being married to her. As an added plus, there's a cute dog, Rocket.

Loved watching Declan and and Claire's characters evolve. With the added bonus of the bond that develops between Claire and Nicole.

Hoping to keep the good times rolling, on to book 2 next.

This was such a cute book! Claire starts out getting some shocking news that leads to an adorable meet cute with Declan on an airplane. Declan starts out grumpy and brooding but as we find out more about him he is very charming. He and Claire have great chemistry and the slow burn between them leads to some great tension.

I really loved these characters! They were quirky and sweet all sprinkled with a little chaos. Claire was so relatable and I was rooting for her (and Nicole’s shenanigans) throughout this story. I loved the mystery aspect of the story! We find out little bits of information along the way and it is just enough to keep us interested.

If you are a fan of Romantic Comedies that will have you laughing and smiling, this needs to be on your tbr!

Oh man was this fun. Not only do Claire and Declan have the most insane chemistry, there are elements of mystery surrounding a few characters (Declan one of them and Claire's newfound but never met bio dad).

Claire heads to N. Carolina when she learns that her actual biological father (she didn't know get dad want her dad) had just died and had been summoned to his home.
Meeting on the airplane, Claire is brought into the mysterious Declan's orbit by her scheming half sister, Nicole. Plus the addition of Mrs. Rosings who is just this fun, older character.

I got more than I wanted with this book. I knew there was a romance going to be in it but didn't know about the big mystery.

My favorite character has to be Nicole! She is devious, funny and scary and so much more...I feel I'd really like a person like her as my best friend. I love how she pushes Claire towards him in silly ways but it works. They can't deny the chemistry that's there.

Declan refuses to let anyone close, and Claire has been fired and found out her bio dad she never knew about has died and left an inheritance to her in the form of a house.
One life changing plane ride later, Claire is on her dads property with a surprise family member and the hot guy from the plane as her neighbor.
Declan doesn’t let anyone close not because of a past lover who scorned her, but because he has secrets and he knows if he lets people in it can get messy fast. But these two are so drawn to each other, that secrets be damned, they can’t stay away.
Her plane mates— Declan and Mrs Rosings— are prime suspects in her half-sister’s (another surprise !) personal investigation of what happened to their dad. Claire gets close to the two but knows that there’s no way they did it. But as the mystery unravels, she’s finds herself being charmed by the town and what her father left for her.

Thank you Hambright PR for the read!

I loved this book! I wasn’t expecting this to be a ‘who done it’ story, but I loved it.

The story follows Claire who loses her job and gets a call from a stranger claiming that she’s inherited property from her late father. Confused, she quickly realizes the man that raised her, is not her biological father. Asheville proves to be a place where there’s more than meets the eye as she realizes… her father’s death may not have been an accident as the police claim.

I really loved this book. The tension between Claire and Declan was chef’s kiss. Outside of the romance, I really appreciated that the book focused on found family. I can’t wait to get to know the rest of the characters as their books are released. I do wish we got a little more clues as to the mystery aspect of it all but this was a fun and easy read.

3.5 stars! Based on the title, I was expecting this to be some sort of Chip and Jo grumpy sunshine situation. If you’re like me, just be warned that there is no home renovation of any sort in this book! This was showing up in my algorithm so I was also expecting it to be closed-door but it’s definitely open-door. And van. And porch. If you’re into that, go for it.

Aside from these things, I thought it was actually really cute. I was totally unprepared for the premise but I liked the story! Definitely had some redeeming moments and a nice little journey for our FMC to learn more about who she is, not just biologically but emotionally.

Secret sibling, found family, grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, slow burn? Uh, yes please! This new series sets us up with Nicole’s half sister Claire. It’s no secret that I utterly adore Nicole. She’s literally my favorite character over multiple series. In true Nicole form, the matchmaking shenanigans commence when she sets out to get the guy for her sister and with that hilarity ensues. I loved the characters, the banter, and the chemistry. Casella weaves a wonderful story and the world building is top notch. It’s well worth the read and if you want the full Nicole Effect, definitely pick up Casella’s other books. You won’t regret it!

This is my first book by this author and I cannot wait to read her other books!

Can I just tell you how much I love Nicole and even the little bit of Dick.

This book is full of great mysteries and twist and turns that you will not know if you want to jump for joy or cry.

Claire and Declan first meet on a plane and don’t think they will make it, so he kisses her thinking the plane is going down. The plane has to make an emergency landing at a different airport so they end up together in a rental van.

Little do they know they are going to be neighbors and the author takes you on the ride of your life!

I really liked the premise of this book. The meet cute was very cute, and the tension and chemistry that came after was even better!

I am beginning to realize, as I read more of these, that I really enjoy these suspense romances. They add a fun element from another genre I really enjoy. This book, in particular, was made better by also being quite humourous. The last one I read had a more serious tone. As well this one had spice, so that's always a nice addition.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and definitely recommend!

This was super cute and fun! I loved the mystery aspect thrown in there. Nicole was so annoying in the beginning, but she grew on me so fast! I think I’d rate it 5 stars if Declan resisted more because he kept saying “oh no I can’t” but literally didn’t try to stay away and I loved it and hated it at the same time. Claire’s growth was written so smoothly and didn’t just flip a switch.
Anyway, cute, fun, a little quirky, and different!

WOW. This was the perfect mix of rom com, meets suspense. I laughed out loud and was so invested in all of this. It was great times and good vibes. The suspense I didn’t see coming really, but I was so invested in all the Characters and so focused on the back stories. This small town was so fun and I’m excited for more
